  1. Zoning signs are up at property off Lanier Drive and at Bird Lane for annexation into the city. Other signs are up around the city, nothing that looks major though.
  2. I agree, what we are seeing now is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to residential and commercial development. In the next four to five years I think things are going to explode. It should be really exciting!
  3. The old Hardees and Churches Chicken location is being turned into Kabob Kelly's or something like that. I noticed yesterday that the Pine trees at the property on the corner of Stambuck Lane and HWY 67 were cut and cleared. I guess they are moving right along with building the hotels and conference center. I wonder if construction on the new Holiday Inn will begin soon as well.
  4. Apparently a couple of the items on the P.C. agenda was for some property off Lanier Drive around Bird Lane being annexed.
  5. The city Planning Commission meets tonight at 5pm. I wonder if anything of interest will be on the agenda.
  6. Other notes from the meeting.... The traffic light at Beasley and Cawana is almost up and should be set to flashing this week, and next week or so be fully operational. There will be improvments to West Gentilly Road at the intersection of Fair Road. Left turn lane I believe. Also a sidewalk is going to be installed along Hwy 24 (East Main) from the Sandy Hill apartments to Mill Creek Park
  7. The Council approved all of the rezonings and variances. Rezoning from R-3 (Medium Density Multi Family Residential) to CR (Commercial Retail) for property located at 17 West Jones Avenue. Rezoning from R-10 (Single Family Residential) to R-8 (Single Family Residential) and a variance to allow the creation of lots that do not maintain the minimum lot width for the entire depth of the lots for a 0.375 acre parcel located on the southwest corner of West Main Street and Bay Street. Rezoning from R-20 (Single Family Residential) to PUD (Planned Unit Development) for a 63.962 acre parcel located on the southeast corner of West Jones Avenue and Cypress Lake Road. - Bethany Home has the option to buy this property, and is proposing to build an assisted living facility at this location. Request for a 14 foot variance of the 20 foot side yard setback for property located at 302 North Main Street.
  8. Public Hearing at City Hall tomorrow at 9 am. Here are the items on the agenda. Request for a 14 foot variance of the 20 foot side yard setback for property located at 302 North Main Street. I have more information on these if there are questions.
  9. Walmart owns property off 80 west and the bypass? I understand about the names. Both of the potential projects yall are talking about on the edge of the City. I need to start following what the county is doing around there, because I haven't heard anything.
  10. Which side of the bypass are you refering to the north or south side? I wonder if I know this person, can you say if its county or city?
  11. I-3, I haven't heard anything about this, I need to look into it. I'm assuming the GDOT website has information on it. I will have to check out Tex Mex
  12. I believe that request was withdrawn right before it went to council.
  13. My fiance works for a Chilis and used to work for On the Border, I have told her about the alcohol ordinances here. She said it was no wonder that Statesboro doesn't have a Chilis or OTB, even though they would easily make the 50% requirement I don't think big chains like that don't want to be that controlled by the local government. I wish I could have been here for that meeting with the 1000's of people at it. I have heard about the project at the big pond property. I haven't seen plans, I find it hard to imagine 36 buildings on that property. I have looked at it on the county GIS site...I'm assuming the buildings will right right along Cawana. What are the best resturaunts to eat at for a decent price?
  14. Boozin What is the general feeling here on the "restuarants" / bars situation?
  15. I was speaking towards the city limit boundaries of Statesboro and Brooklet merging. I do agree that there is rapid development in the areas between 67, Northside, and Brooklet. i think it's somewhat unfortunate that alot of the development is occuring outside the cities in the county first. It's more difficult to annex land that has already been developed, served by private water systems, and has many property owners. But I guess there isn't much of a way around all that. i noticed this particular subject was already discussed but i will just agree... The population of the city seems to be just under the threshold of attracting the bigger name commercial businesses. It will certainly take leaps of faith on the part of developers. Once we get a few the others will follow.
  16. Just to introduce myself. I found this whole thing a week ago and decided to join. I live just outside of statesboro, but work in town. I moved here this past May from NC. I have knowledge of the City Zoning Ordinance, so if anyone ever has any questions I will try to answer them.
  17. The City Ordinance has a provision that allows the City Council to allow buildings greater than 35ft in height in the Commercial Districts provided that for every foot in excess of 35 feet 1 foot is added to the yard setback requirements. As far as Brooklet and Statesboro merging I don't really see that happening within 5 years, maybe within 10.
  18. The fuel behind the fire is primarily growth in the university admissions and rising cost to live in the Savannah area. Statesboro offers the amenities of a college town and is within a short drive of Savannah and the beach, Statesboro is an exciting place to live and work.
