  1. Anyone know what happen to Gap, Goody's and Friedman's Jewelers in Gaston Mall? In other News..... Bosch Tools and Cochrane Furniture in Lincoln County are closing. Here are a few news articles about the closings. http://lincolntribune.com/modules/news/art...hp?storyid=8147 http://www2.nccommerce.com/eclipsfiles/18583.pdf http://www.lincolntimesnews.com/Default.asp?VA=17245
  2. Chili's...interesting. For those interested in seeing where that news came from, here is a link to the Belmont/Mt Holly Banner News. http://www.mybannernews.com/articles/2008/06/201.html
  3. Major development planned for Cramerton. See news articles here: http://www.charlotte.com/485/story/652780.html http://www.gastongazette.com/news/peoples_..._cramerton.html See the developers website here: http://www.hoppercommunities.com/ The proposed development would double the population of the town. It is a mixed use development covering 143 acres. The developer filed for annexation by Cramerton. The developer is expecting construction to begin in 5-6 months and build out in 5 years. My take on this is wait and see. There has been a similar development in the Town of Catawba, Catawba County, that was approved in late 2006/early 07 and there hasn't been a single shovel of dirt moved yet. Also, I find it strange that this development is part of Cramerton when it is closer to McAdenville. Anyhow, here is the site in GoogleMaps http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=35.253247,-...p;t=h&hl=en
  4. I'm assuming you are talking about the outparcel in the north-east corner of the BI-LO Center. Well I did the typical google and webgis digging. The current owner listed on the County GIS system has an address of 319 S Sharon Amity Rd STE 300. I googled that address and came up with Sree Hotels. I google Sree and found their website, here: http://www.sree.com/ This seems like an odd location for a hotel to me. It could be owner listed on the County GIS sold the property to whomever is developing it now. Are their any signs post advertising the construction firm or engineering firm?
  5. Bojangles is coming soon to Stanley, NC see franchise website here... http://www.bojangleskbo.com/locations.htm There are buildings being constructed next to the retaining wall where Max's used to be. McCallister's Deli has a sign up for the site. I like McCallister's alot, had one in Boone I ate at while in college. I haven't heard anything else about the development on New Hope with the high end retail. I did notice a new Food Lion on New Hope.
  6. Construction work has begun on the Gaston Mall property. Max's Mexican Eatery has been demolished and a large retaining wall has been constructed along Cox Rd. I'm not sure if somthing is being built in that corner or if it will be parking area. I haven't seen any site plans for this development, if anyone knows where I could view one online I'd appreciate a link. Is there an official name for this development/redevelopment yet?
  7. Does anyone know what is underconstruction in Stanley, NC on north/east side of HWY 27 just past (heading towards Mt. Holly) the new Stanley Market Place (Food Lion)? They are clearing land there and I have heard rumors about various resturants but nothing firm. My google searching did not return anything worthwhile either. I did discover that according to the Gaston County GIS the property is named as part of Stanley Market Place and is owned by Catawba Land & Development, LLC. I didn't find anything about this group. All the information on Stanley Market Place I found only relates to the newly constructed FoodLion and attached retail spaces.
  8. According to a post made by member DigitalSky in the Charlotte Coffee House, Gastonia will be getting some new "high end" retail off New Hope Rd. This project was mentioned above, but lacked details. I did a bit of google searching and came up with websites for the consulting firm and developer involved (see below). The development is proposed by Stanbery Development and Mason Retail Group. On stanbery's website they provide some information and you can download a very cool brochure. This is there website http://www.stanbery.com/index.asp?retail.d...pes-at-gastonia Mason Retail group has been in existance since 2000. They consult and represent small to large retail companies and landlords for shopping centers. Check out their website fo more information http://www.masonretailgroup.com/aboutmrg.html I'm glad to see some retail activity occuring somewhere other than Franklin Blvd/ Franklin Square area.
  9. Oh great now this thread is burried under all the threads that are directly related to Charlotte. I hope this thread doesn't die like the other Gastonia threads in the Charlotte section.
  10. I dont really see why you care. I think there could be a Section for Charlotte alone and a seperate Section similar to Triad or Triangle that covers the municipalities surrounding Charlotte including gastonia. I also think there should be a Section for the Unifour Counties around Hickory. But I'm not a mod/admin and neither are you so it doesnt really matter what we think does it?
  11. No, look at the section description for Charlotte. "Charlotte: Charlotte Skyscrapers, Mass Transit Plans, Highways, Construction Projects, Rumors" Doesn't say anything about Charlotte region, surrounding counties or municipalities. Also the issues concerning Charlotte are different than those that concern Gastonia. Thats why I started this thread under NC Forum. Also, if I'm not mistaken in order for a region/area/city to get its own Section it needs to have significant activity under the State forum first. At least that is how it worked for Statesboro, GA and how they got their own Section.
  12. No idea, whats going on?
  13. you were told correctly. there is an outparcel at northern end. it will be a seperate building.
  14. Mellow Mushroom plans submitted to City. I looked online for info on it, all I could find was stuff about the old one.
  15. The City Planning Department has begun posting packets for Planning Commission meetings. Last month's packet is up on the website under the Planning section.
  16. The City Council held its regular meeting Tuesday (may 1st) evening. There were no public hearings. 1. Adopted the first reading of an ordinance to amend the Statesboro Occupational Taxes - proposed change will be a combination of a flat tax and tax based on number of employees. 2. Adopted second reading of an ordinance to annex 35.01 acres on the east side and 5 acres on the west side of Bird Lane. A public hearing on this was held last October. They also approved the zoning for the property on Bird Lane. They adopted a resolution to close the portion of Bird Ln that is no longer needed and deed it back ot the property owner. 3. Adopted the second reading of an ordinance authorizing Capital Cost Recovery Fees for the extension of Water and Sewer trunk lines into ares within and adjacent to the City limits. Adopted a resolution establishing the CCR Dirstrict #1: Southeast Quadrant Area (this is the area along and around Cawana Road) These fees would apply to any new development that wishes to utilize the City water and sewer lines in this area. In order to connect to the lines the property will have to be annexed and the Capital Cost Recovery Fee paid when the individual lots are developed. Fees are designed to assist in recovering the cost the city fronts in construction of the trunk lines. 4. Adopted first reading to annex the small parcel of property on the north side of Stambuck Ln, next to the Garden District Apartments 5. Adopted first reading of an ordinance amending parking requirements and design for parking lots. One aspect was to change the parking stall width from 50% 10' wide 50% 9' wide to requiring a minimum of 9' wide stalls. The council decided to leave the ordinance the way it currently is written for that portion. However, a final decision will not be made till after the Public Hearing scheduled for the June 5th meeting. There were several other items such as bid awards. See the website for more information. Agendas and Minutes should be posted.
  17. I'm not familar with the name of the center where Target and Toys R Us is located. I'm assuming that is called Akers Center. I lived in Gastonia all my life and I never noticed. I just always refered to it as where Toys R Us is. If best buy moved, do you think, not only Toys R Us would look at the location in Franklin, but also Hobby Lobby. I know they haven't been at the current location long. Any idea about who the developers or anyone one working on the Gaston Mall demo/redevelopment project might be?
  18. I saw this in the paper. I haven't seen or heard of any plans for this project. How many chicken places can Statesboro support? We got Zaxbys, Popeyes, Chick-fila, Shugs, KFC, soon Bojangles, and now soon Goodbirds. I suppose they all have their own flavor. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm beginning to get tired of chicken.
  19. If that happens, that will suck for franklin square to lose BestBuy and have a big vacant spot. MaryJo's is so popular, not only in the southeast but even somewhat known across the country. i would hope they could find a way to stay at the location or find a new location nearby just to keep it familiar with those who shop there.
  20. I guess longhorn is moving because of the closing of Gaston Mall. I have heard SuperTarget is coming to the Gaston Mall location. Anyone else heard anything about that?
  21. Walls are going up at Starbucks mall location.
  22. There was an article in the Herald talking about the City Council's workshop that was held last night. The council disussed the front yard parking issue. They wanted to attempt to address the issues that were brought forth by the public at the public hearing that was held a few months ago. The council agreed the best way to eliminate concerns from people that did not have large yards would be to apply the restrictions to zoning districts R-15, R-20, R-30 and R-40. They agreed that paving was not necessary provided vehicles were parked in an orderly manner. No official descisions were made. The City staff are to develop a new draft of the potential ordinance based on the Council members sugestions. Here is a link to the article... http://www.statesboroherald.com/news/article/3609/ ...there is one inaccuracy "any ordinance they do approve will only affect those parcels with 15,000 square feet or more square feet" The council said it would only affect R-15 and up, described above as R-15, R-20, R-30 and R-40. The intent is the same, but there are some cases in older neighborhood where a smaller lot, for example a 9,500 square foot lot, may be located in an R-15 zoning district, those are limited cases however.
  23. The Planning Commission held its meeting yesterday (May 8th) They recommended approval of rezoning 61.25 acres on the east side of packinghouse road, from R-15 to R-10. Recommended approval of rezoning the 21.27 acre parcel proposed to be combind with the BC development to 100% CR. The developers were present, however, they did not speak. The attorney representing them spoke briefly but did not give any details or hints as to the stores or businesses we might see. The commission postponed the variance request to reduce the front setbacks from 25 feet to 10 feet for 1.4 acre parcel located on Briarwood Road, across the street from Candler medical office. They postponed in order to give the engineer working on the project to design a site plan showing the layout of parking and buildings. The commission recommended approval of a ordiance amendment for the off street parking and loading section of the zoning ordinance.
