  1. There are already alot of hotels. Though I will admit most of them are outdated and some are pretty much apartment complexes now. I don't see how all these old and new hotels will survive. I guessing most of the profit comes from football season and graduation times. I suppose they make enough money then to get them through the summer. I just wouldn't want to see the hotels that are old become rundown and trashy. There are some like that now. I'd rather see those be torn down and replaced, whether it be by another hotel or not. Any idea where the new Hampton is going?
  2. Results from todays council meeting: Rezoning for Krystal location at the corner of Buckhead and Brannen was approved. Annexation and rezoning for property on the north side of Stambuck Ln, adjacent to Garden District Apartments was also approved. A small commercial strip center is proposed, along with an ATM and standalone Ice Machine. The Council approved the second reading on ordinance to annex the borrow pit property on Cawana Road with all the conditions approved at the public hearing. Upcoming Planning Commission Items: EDIT - I realized that if anyone is interested in attending this meeting they would need to know the day and time.... The PC meeting is May 8th at 4pm - City Council Chambers Rezoning request for property located on packinghouse road. A subdivision plat for the property was recently approved by the Council. The current zoning is R-15, the developer is requesting R-10 zoning. Rezoning request for property located south of the old railroad bed (where the green-way tunnel is being constructed) on the west side on the Bypass. This property is part of the proposed Brannen Crossing Development off Brannen Road. The property is overlayed with multiple zoning districts, they are requesting the property be all CR to match the zoning of the property to the north immediately off Brannen. Nearly all the property is unbuildable due to wetlands. only a small portion of the property next to the bypass and the tunnel is usable. Variance request for property located off Briarwood Road across from Candler Internal Medicine. Request is to reduce the front setbacks from 25 feet to 10 feet. This property is zoned CR. And a text amendment for the parking ordinance that covers businesses and multifamily developments...this is NOT the front yard parking issue.
  3. ^That location would be in Charlotte, not Gastonia^ See post from this link, noted below. http://jayseae.cxliv.org/2006/04/09/cook_o...te_nc_28212.php "As for locations... as of today there are 39 all over NC... Keep looking in your area, we have 8 new stores going up in the next few months. Sunset and Sharon Amity in Charlotte opened a few months ago, and we have Lincolnton, Gastonia (2), and several more in the Charlotte area." Gastonia (2) - Franklin Road next to shake and steak, where is the other?
  4. Apparently they have two stores coming or already built in Gastonia. I know where one is...next to Shake and steak on Franklin. Anyone know where the other is? I did some research on Cookout and sure enough there isn't anything really solid. Does anyone know what stores are going into the development directly in front of HH Gregg and Ashley?
  5. May's Planning Commission meeting will have some clues into the Brannen Crossing Development. Keep an eye out for a follow up post in the "Public Hearing" topic for additional details
  6. You must be talking about the buildings that are being constructed practically right on the road. There are several things I don't like about that project. First, what you see as you drive by is the back of the building and service entrances. There isn't any interesting architecture, just plain walls, except for glass at a couple of the building corners. Second, you can barely see Ashley and HH Gregg not that I care to see them, but if I were those businesses I would be upset. Third, the buildings are so close to the road they had to provide a decel/accel lane. Even with that short lane entering and exiting from Franklin could be difficult and dangerous. The sight distance is limited. Verizon Wireless is taking Boston Market place according to the sign out front. Anyone know anything about COOKOUT BURGERS next to Steak and Shake? Are there others somewhere else, are they any good, etc?
  7. my understanding is bank, chili's, holiday inn. That is a good point about the property being slanted. However notice from the GIS map the corner of Brannen and Commerce... http://64.234.218.46/ga_bulloch.html?parce...uildings+subs#4 The property lines (at the top left corner of the site) on the plans do not match the angle of the property lines at the Brannen/Commerce intersection. This evidence would support Bank, Chili's, Inn arrangment.
  8. There is a bid listed at http://www.ldiline.com/april23thru30.html#ChilisStatesboro for construction of a Chili's in Statesboro off Commerce Drive. My apologies to Morgan for not looking first before asking...I did a little google searching and found the blog post on the Herald, I'm assuming that is where you got the news. Last I checked, Brinker International (the corporation that owns Chili's), had not made an announcment on their website. They likely are waiting final approval of construction plans from the City and any other agencies involved before making a formal annoucment. You never know what might come up in plan review that could discourage a developer, it's probably a good idea for any developer to wait to annouce things to be on the safe side.
  9. it is Krystal's proposed location. the building will have to sit back towards the bypass to avoid moving or changing the detention pond.
  10. Signs posted for upcoming City Council hearing to be held May 1. 1. Rezoning from CR to PUD/CR at the corner of Buckhead/Brannen/Bypass 2. Annexation and rezoning from HC in county to PUD/CR in City west of Garden District, off Stambuck Ln.
  11. Signs posted for upcoming City Council hearings. 1. Annexation of the old Joseph Home for Boys location off Hwy 301 and Dodd Circle. 2. Parking variance request for 17 E Jones (small metal sided building, next to greenway) 3. Rezoning of 109 Broad from R-4 Multi family to R-6 Single family (white house on through lot, has frontage on both Broad and Mulberry) 4. Parking variance for Elm Street Church of God. 5. Setback variance for a vacant lot on Bulloch Street.
  12. "stop work" order sign posted at the El Sombrero location on Buckhead. I guess they got ahead of themselves.
