  1. I will offer one that I got from a college professor years ago, and then quoted him in the paper about it. "Greenville: There's a church on every corner."
  2. It's Elton John. Before some of you guys say it's not a big show, it is a big step for Greenville. John is not doing many U.S. dates this year. so its a good thing he chose here
  3. The announcement on the May concert is coming friday.
  4. actually, we did a biz cover on this subject back in January. The other big part of this is the airport is right there. helps serves a major connector...
  5. Vacant Broad Street site? Are we talking about that large swath of land on the southern side of Church Street bridge, across Broad from Northhampton Wines? Funny you ask, I talked to someone about that land this week. Apparently, the owners are sitting on it until they find the right project. You have to admit, it has to be one of the best open sites in all of downtown. All that acreage with nothing on it. I can see housing there... And to make it transit related, maybe if housing goes there it will lead to a shuttle loop system downtown where people in surrounding neighborhoods can take shuttle/trolleys to downtown instead of driving.
  6. skyliner, I believe the Cely sign on Church Street is for the renovations to the school district offices. I saw that sign the other day, and was wondering what might be going on...I was hoping for a Tba...
  7. Finally made it to Snapshot on Poinsett. Food was good, decor was really cool. They serve Idaho chips, which are full pototo slices instead of cut into "fry" shapes. It was a nice touch
  8. This may be a topic for another thread, but I always wondered what are some of Greenville's better hidden treasures? I mean the places that no one would go to if they didn't live nearby, but everyone really needs to go to at one time or another. My faves would be: The original Clock in Greer Tucker's Soda Shop ( this is similar to Northgate, but over in West Greenville) Tanner's Big Orange Little Italy ( this is a pizza place in Piedmont, that is really worth the drive)
  9. Carbon fiber is very big in the Formula One industry.
  10. it is pretty cool looking. Has some kind of parking garage attached.
  11. That is to funny that you beat everyone to this months ago. Does that count as UP effect?
  12. Manufacturing, but I'd probably get in trouble if I made the announcement with my sources, so I will let G-Man say it for sure. However, the company has sent out a press release saying $150 milliom, 225 jobs, but I know state officials still are anxious. And yes, it begins with a C
  13. I believe we have a winner. Good find. I just had it confirmed when I saw your post.
  14. It was sold to a company in California during the late summer. That company has a history of taking former industrial sites and converting into retail/residential. That is there plan.
  15. The more I talk to people, and the less they say, it seems to me at least...it has to be a company that is moving in from somewhere else and it is likely one of the industries the state Commerce Department/ GADC has set as a target such as aviation, automotive, advanced materials, plastics etc...which of course means it could be any company out there right now.
  16. Also, it is definitely in the county, and is a publicly-traded company
  17. I was thinking it might be Lockheed as well. And no, I have no further knowledge on this than anyone else. It is just a strange hunch. They would need a lot of cooperation between entities for expansion because they are in the Donaldson Center, which would require city and county council blessing. Have the meeting downtown to throw people off a little. My off the wall idea, though, would be BMW is being annexed by Greenville County...
  18. Last time I talked to Eden's, they said they were moving to a new spot, but weren't sure where. They hope to stay downtown. Also, as per Carolina Chocolates, they have plans to move things around in there. Pretty soon, you will be able to watch them dip the chocolate as you enter. That to me ( a recovering chocoholic) will become a destination store just to watch the chocolates made in front of you.
  19. Now, I have the "monorail" song stuck in my head from that episode..."what about us braindead slobs? You'll be given cushy jobs." Rt, congrats on Florida winning the national championship.
  20. Hey guys, When you get the chance make sure to walk or drive by the West End Field. South Main is now open, and it really cool looking right now
  21. It seems like a lot of places are going out of business right now, but its because there hasn't been a lot of closings in awhile. Normal ebb and flow of business transitions Main Street, and for some reason a lot of businesses are going down at one time. It wouldn't be noticed if it was one store every month, but right now it is about six. This happens about every five years.
