  1. Is that the curve right infront of that big house? I don't see how the cutting down of those few trees cut made a major impact on sound. People just wanting to complain...
  2. So andremurra, you seem to have plenty of sources for inside news. Any new info? I'm going crazy with the hault of the development news.
  3. Well, there was a article was posted today about the whole restaurant thing going on in town. If you read it, it's the same thing that andremurra has explained for us all before. It explains how about a year ago they were in negotiations with a franchise group with a major chain for the Shell House location. Then, the fuss over the alcohol ordinance, and the the chain never granted the group with a franchise. With those backing out, it pretty much put a stop to anybody looking to invest in Statesboro. Now each chain is looking at each other, seeing is who will make the first move. Once one comes and succeeds, the others will follow. I'm positive that City Council didn't take into consideration the negative effects this ordinance would have on Statesboro. article: http://www.statesboroherald.com/news/article/929/
  4. I was looking at Oct 17 City Council meeting notes, and an interesting item caught my eye. They project by 2010, Statesboro will have a population of 27,800, just 1,266 more than 2005. Only 30,000 will be here in 2020. I just find it hard to believe, that in 15 years Statesboro's population will only grow by 3,466 people. Same thing applies to a recent figure for Bulloch County I recently saw. Between 2000 and 2030, they only expect us to get 26,128 residents. I don't understand. There seems to be too many new people moving here and too many new residential projects going on for us to grow only by those small numbers. Maybe it's just me.
  5. So, there wasn't any development news, but there was an interesting article about the Chamber of Commerce/Development Authority. It explains the difference between the two, such as what the two are for, how they're funded, etc. It goes on saying how Georgia Power invited the chamber president (who is also the development authority executive director) to sit at their booth at the International Council of Shopping Centers southeastern conference in Atlanta last month. The chamber president says how she gets multiple calls and visits on a regular basis from commercial developers. Anyway, here's the rest of the article if you want to read it: http://www.statesboroherald.com/news/article/799/ Oh, and to put the grocery store rumor to semi-rest, she said that more then one commerical developer is looking for locations to construct a large retail development. They plan for a grocery store to be the anchor, but nothing is final at this time.
  6. Any idea of what's going on on Cawana Road? I saw they're clearning some trees right down the road from where they wanted to build those townhomes. Maybe another housing project is about to get underway.
  7. Well, the October building permit info has been released. Seems as if Shane's Rib Shack obtained one, Comfort Inn (for the expansion), 180 Fitness, and I even saw one that said Sea Island Bank. The location was on Brampton Avenue. It's kind of weird, considering they have a branch right down the road. I'm not sure what's going on. Speaking of banks, does anybody know when First Southern is planning on building their new branch out there too next to the new McDonalds? The sign has been up almost ever since they built their new "HQ" downtown, and that's been a few years.
  8. The new name is Mr. Lin's Buffet. I wish Golden Corral was still there. I'm not sure why it closed, but i'm guessing bad management. The last few times I went before it closed, it was dirty on the inside, and the food wasn't that great.
  9. All I know is that they need to hurry and do something. I used to like going to Walmart, but anymore, it's a pain. So many people in there that you can't move, you have to drive around the parking lot to look for a parking space, etc. The only time I ever go anymore, is if I ride with somebody. The rumors have been flying around for a new Walmart/second Walmart/Sams for years, just confirm something and let's get started.
  10. Southeast won't be moving into the new facility next month. It's still far from completion. They'll be moving in for the new school year next year. That new shopping center could be Brannen Crossing. Did they say anything about it?
  11. Simon..That would be nice. But hey, at this point, anything would. Death to the Statesboro Mall!
  12. Another Sams? The one in Sand Fly just opened about 2 months ago, and the one in Pooler just opened two weeks ago. I can't see another Sam's going in this area. A Neighborhood Market is definately intresting. I'd much rather see another supercenter, but it's better then nothing. Any dates?
  13. Holy crap. I just glanced through this since i'm half asleep, but i'm reading this first thing in the morning. This is huge. I love inside sources. I need some.
  14. I didn't think anybody still lived there. For the past year or so, everytime I passed by there it always seemed dead. Maybe I just pass at the wrong times. Somebody called into the soundoff, saying how Statesboro has been trying to catch up with Athens, and it finally has because of traffic, crime, etc. Yeah, ok. That one made me laugh. Athens has so much more to offer then Statesboro. Don't go there.
  15. Another Apartment Complex Planned Well, once most of us thought things were going to slow down in the "apartment boom" for a while, it seems that another apartment complex has been planned. Temporarily named "University Walk", it will be situated across the road from the newly constructed Cambridge, where the old trailer park currently sits. It will consist 15 buildings, and have 504 beds. Construction is set to begin in March of next year and be ready to be leased for the 08-09 year. I'm so glad that trailer park is finally going to be gone. It was horrible looking. Now we must target the one behind the Market District and Hometown Inn.
  16. I went by Tillman Park today, and I must say the renderings gives it no justice. I could only see a few of them from the road, since they had Tillman Road blocked off, but they were really good. I hope more of these come up downtown. I saw there's also a new resturant coming at the old Hardees/Church's Chicken. There was only a small sign, but I couldn't see what it said. There were still newspapers in the window, so i'm not sure whats going on.
  17. hahahah ..I can already imagine the Soundoff for the next week, maybe even two weeks.
  18. Bush to visit the Boro In tommorow's (at least i'm gussing, it's posted rather late) newspaper, it states that Bush will be coming to Statesboro. No official details about where or what time, the only thing known is that he will be visiting October 30th. It's campaigning for Max Burns He recently visited the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler six weeks ago. It's crazy that he's coming back, and coming to Statesboro. I'd figure another Chatham location - such as downtown.
