  1. I know, I don't understand. I want to know what resturant was coming over in that shopping center in The Market District that said "we weren't there yet".
  2. I thought what they said about Ryan's was pretty interesting. It serves between 8,000 - 10,000 people a week, and is ranked 20th out of 340 other Ryan's resturants. That's what I don't get. Why won't other national chains come? Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chili's, etc. would do excellent here. They say we don't have the population. You can tell they haven't been here on a Friday or Saturday night trying to find somewhere to eat.
  3. Haven't seen you here in a while, I was just about to post about that too. I can't think of what grocery store will be coming. The only thing I think of is the second Walmart, or possibly Kroger. Piggly Wiggly has been gone for a while, and there was a article in the paper a while ago about how Publix didn't have any plans to return anytime soon (they've been gone around 7 years I believe). I hated where they said we could be a suburb of the SMA. Eww Also, Georgia Southern broke a record for money raised for A Day for Southern. They earned over 1.27 million yesterday. About $50,000 more then last year.
  4. Yeah, it's Brannen Crossing. Hull Storey doesn't own it, but I do think they do own a small piece. I may be wrong. I don't know why they don't do anything to the mall. Just a few stores and maybe a department store (since they seem to be building alot of freestanding ones lately), the mall could go down. The mall could be so much better. I don't understand.
  5. More Resturants to open in Market District Opening in The Market District Center (located in the center of the 85 acre development) are McAlister's Deli (now open), Barberitos Southwestern Grille and Cantina, Shane's Rib Shack (both to open in December), and Ogeechee River Coffee Company. Also slated to open is Foot Solutions, and hoping for a October opening.
  6. Streetscape plans unveiled Plans for downtown Statesboro were revelaled Tuesday. The improvements to the downtown area include adding trees, benches and red brick along the widened sidewalks. With wider sidewalks, the width of the street will be narrowed causing traffic to be slower in those areas. Bidding for the project should begin in sometime in October, with construction beginning in January. Going from the Main/Main intersection to Triangle Park, it should take between six and nine months to complete. Phase two will begin after the first one is completed. (Sorry this is late - this week has been hectic)
  7. New Holiday Inn to open Fall 2007 Details were released today of the new 8 million dollar Holiday Inn located in Commerce Park on the Bypass next to Franklin Toyota. Located on 2.5 acres, it will be 63,000 square feet and four stories tall. It will contain 93 hotel rooms, meeting rooms, a full service dining room, a fitness room, business center, small lounge, and a pool. Groundbreaking for the hotel should be in January, with a completion date of late next fall. The hotel is being built by a group consisting of 10 local residents, with one of them in the process of constructing two other hotels in the Savannah I-95 area.
  8. So, Starbucks IS planning a store around the mall? I heard from somebody who worked at the mall this summer that they were planning one. They said behind the mall, so I thought Hull-Storey might be doing it since they've opened some up on other land they own. My mom said that she saw people surveying land across the road earlier this week. I'm wondering what's going on there.
  9. I noticed today that they are renovating the outside of the apartments on Lanier Drive and the Bypass..on the opposite side of GSU. I'm glad, they're looking really bad. I remember when those and the ones across the bypass were the only apartments around there. You'd see people out there playing volleyball in the sand and all. Now there's 5 new complexes with 2 under construction and one under way (at least I guess it is, have you heard anything about Campus Edge?).
  10. I just read something about this not too long ago, and it said that it does average 40,000 - 45,000 cars a day.
  11. Yeah, I never really thought about that. Have you heard anything about whats going on with Alicia Bea's? A letter came in the mail yesterday saying that they were closing their doors. They have two buildings, that could add a lot of stores downtown.
  12. Since it was awarded 2 months ago, I would have thought that it would have started, or getting ready to start.
  13. The last 4 or 5 times (except once - it was 9:30 at night) that i've been through downtown, traffic was backed up from the courthouse to Shoney's. It's getting really bad. I actually googled "Statesboro Bypass Construction" (that's how I found this place) and found a page from the DOT. It has a completion date of March 31, 2008, so I would have to think that they would start working on it soon. I'm thinking that the city would approve of the traffic cameras by then and have them put up when the additional 2 lanes open. I noticed last night that they've started construction on the Savannah Avenue/Northside Drive intersection.
  14. Traffic WAS crazy tonight, and I was there from 6-8. Walmart was a mad house too. All the people in there, and nobody knows where anything is anymore.
  15. Hopefully with Talbots coming, this will encourage other clothing retail chains to come. American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy, and even Gap would do good here. Hopefully in the next 6 months to a year, we'll see some new stores here. Have you heard anything about a Starbucks going around the mall? I heard it from about 2 people, and I was just hoping it was true. I don't really want to go on campus to go to Starbucks.
  16. Woodlands Square Announces Tenants Now that Woodlands Square is in the final stages, some tenants have been revealed. Opening is Latte Da Coffee Cafe, A Contemporary Cupboard: Timeless Kitchen and Bath Design Studio, a second Statesboro Quiznos, Big Kahuna Sunglasses, and Statesboro's first Talbots.
  17. I was going to go to Walmart to get a few things earlier today for school, but after I went by and saw the parking lot, I changed my mind. The entire parking lot was full, except for about 10 parking spaces. That new Walmart can't get here any sooner. I actually went to the Walmart (or Sams, but it's like 15 feet away from it) in Sandfly yesterday. If the new one does come on 80, I hope they do it like that one. I was impressed, just by the parking lot and the entrance.
  18. It was in the newspaper yesterday saying Georgia Southern will be playing the Navy on September 12, 2009.
  19. So, do you know when anything is going start going on out there? When they started remodeling the current one, I thought that after they got finished, they might start construction (or at least say something about) the new one.
  20. Well the last time I read, Starbucks was going to open on the 7th. They must have changed it. I know Statesboro could handle another Walmart, no doubt. People come from all around to shop there. The store is small enough to begin with, and when you get alot of people in there, it becomes crowded quick. That's why I know alot of people don't go to Walmart alot. I haven't heard about that location. The last time I heard about a new location, it was going to be located at the intersection of the bypass and Hwy. 301, infront of the bowling alley. A lady my mom knows actually has a office in the bowling alley, and she talked to the real estate agent and said that Wal-Mart had bought the land. 80 West is kind of a random location, if you ask me. Maybe this will bring new development there (but im sure it will). The SAMS idea was scrapped I believe. With the new, larger one opening in Pooler this month, they said it was too close to have another one.
  21. I'm new here, so I thought i'd make a post. I've been a lurker, but I decided I would go ahead and join and give a few words of my own. I'm just a high school student, but i've lived in Statesboro (or on the outside) all of my life. I've seen Statesboro grow over the years, especially over the past couple of years. Just a quick intro, i'll definately be posting here alot. Is the Starbucks your're talking about the one at the Russell Union? I think that one was supposed to open yesterday.
