  1. DDD gets grant for decorative crosswalks downtown The Downtown Development District this week announced it has received a Community Challenge Grant from AARP to implement decorative crosswalks at five intersections along Third Street from Convention Street to North Street. The crosswalk project aims to improve downtown safety and aesthetics while highlighting the city’s main arts and entertainment district, DDD says. The grant is not for a set amount yet, according to Ryan Benton, DDD development project director. These crosswalks will be designed to complement the one installed at Third and Florida streets in 2019, which incorporates motifs from the downtown wayfinding signage that are inspired by historic buildings and other elements of downtown Baton Rouge.
  2. Sweaty is the right word! I went out today and sweated out my shirt.
  3. Free People, a retailer that specializes in women’s clothing inspired by vintage fashions of the 1960s and 1970s, is set to open its first Baton Rouge store in Perkins Rowe. https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/business/article_fa4a93ee-ebc3-11eb-8c5e-af247663c876.html
  4. Hmm, I'll have to check the radar next time I notice and really big one!

  6. ^ Yeah those do sound like good ideas. Every new development is cleared of trees, of course I think Gustav scared a lot of people.
  7. LOL! No it's a Hyundai Santa Fe. Why, because this is America where bigger = better!
  8. Well, it does sound like a nice idea. Still kinda sad they couldn't find any other retail to go in that space.
  9. I saw a conspiracy theory on YouTube that all this sudden flash-flooding is caused by industrial sites pumping out water vapor. Frankly I 2/3 rds of the way believe it cause after I listened to the theory I noticed how much vapor Exxon pumps out on a consistent basis. Of course it won't ever be proven because if it was true all the perpetrators reputation would be ruined and they'd go out of business paying damages. But seeing how "climate change" is the cause of everything and conduct of even American companies when they operate in countries with lax policies I don't see how it's so far fetched. These are pictures I took one day from by Millverville from where I could see the Exxon smoke. Also one day when I stepped outside I could smell the plant from my house on O'Neal which made me wonder how far those chemicals traveled across the landscape.
  10. Well I can't completely disagree with em on the second article.

  12. I don't expect any towers, but I'd be satisfied with an attractively designed 12 story building with street retail space.
  13. Yes indeed, how far a drop was that?
  14. LOL! As Richy, would say: poor entertainment starved Baton Rouge. We really spent a week talking about a snake. It did make for a good laugh though.
  15. I'd definitely like to see Zachary development an actual downtown. I read the original Victorian buildings burnt down a long time ago.

Hmm, well that's a new idea.

The credit union applied for a permit Thursday to build a two-story, 27,519-square-foot office building at 6108 Siegen Lane. The branch will be built in front of the Bristol Place Apartments on a 2.3-acre site Campus Federal bought in March 2020 for nearly $2.7 million.
  19. LOL! Well one of my adult resolutions was to be more positive , so to your comment I'll say... But think of it this way, in 50 years when it's old and dusty, maybe they'll rebuild it again in a nicer design.
  20. Subdivision proposed at Staring Lane and Kings Hill Avenue Business report. Com
  21. Yup, even at only 3 stories it looks pretty impressive.
  22. Yes indeed, not nationally relevant. I'm surprised they could stand to fix their mouth to suggest that.
