  1. It is loud and rather obnoxious imo when busy. Once in Aventura, and once in JAX is enough of C.F. for this one. How about the Zara in Georgetown. LOVE!
  2. This is actually much needed. From the Cabarrus/Meck line all the way to N.Tryon is a nightmare during rush hour. And 24/7 for pedestrians. From 485 to UNCC, there are too many stop lights. Ditch the left turn to Back Creek Church Rd for starters. That way outbound 49 traffic has more green. Maybe Pavilion BLVD should keep lights, and just get rid of Back Creek altogether. Run it into Pavilion somehow. Its a mess for sure.
  3. Here here! MLB. Been hearing MLB is ten years down the road since 1990.... Does MLB not realize the potential.... no team between DC and urghh ATL. Granted, Braves fans in the Carolinas and Tennessee won't budge. But NC and say Spartanburg, some if CAE and some of S.VA...would surely support a Charlotte MLB team?? The triangle is such a hodge podge of transplants you would likely win native NC'ers. Anywho. Its been yet another 10 years and nothing.
  4. Does it make sense to approach LRT so that the Triangle as a whole is connected? I don't know much about the area, but does it make more sense for Raleigh and Cary (Wake County) to have their own system? Likewise Durham/Chapel Hill perhaps?. Could the two systems connect via RDU?. I can't imagine if Charlotte, as a region, had tried to put rail transit together outside of Meck Co. to begin. Better to think more local. Then let things evolve. Gaston County us now in the loop for LRT from Uptown-CLT-Mt.Holly I'm sure Cabarrus and eventually Union Counties will be included as well. Not sure about York Co, as Rock Hill has just NOW began bus transit. Sad as York County is approaching a pop. of 300,000 people. Just my two cents.
  5. Amen, CIAA enjoy B-more. We enjoyed your looooong stay. But all good things , the millions you spent while NOT attending the actual basketball games, and yes even the bad things, 100 rounds of gun shots, must come to an end. In this case It's not painful to say goodbye. Amen, CIAA enjoy B-more. We enjoyed your looooong stay. 6. This banter about the CIAA tournament and how people feel about it is exactly why it needs to leave the Queen city. We are so above it. We host the DNC,NBA All-Star, ACC tournaments all the time, The RN.....whatever in 2020. We have graduated above the CIAA. Baltimore needs it more, and it will not cause the attention it has recently caused in Charlotte. Crime is crime and in this case it involves a mostly African-American crowd. Swallow the bitter pill, and let's consider this whoo-ha of a conversation DONE. #stfu This banter about the CIAA tournament and how people feel about it is exactly why it needs to leave the Queen city. 7. Love the GB over-all, but dear God don't let this street level fakeness start a trend. I would rather charlotte keep it's office park look then become a mass confusion of design and building materials. I love that Charlotte is concentrating its towers very tightly within 277. Unlike Atlanta which seems to think 20 talls spread out over 5 miles creates a skyline. Love much of Atlantas design with towers, but they try too hard(and continue to fail) at being NYCs little sister or something. having said that I would love to see a midrise tower at Concord Mills or Near WT.harris. 15-20 foors. A sort of "Your almost there" to people traveling on 85.
  8. the only thing I care for is the huge artwork outside. Im not liking these "mass" developments so much. From the river view it looks horrid imo. Reminded me right away of Detroit and it's little hodge podge of sleek towers all clumped together. However, I love how charlotte is developing over-all. I drive into the city about every other week via 85S to 77S to the brookshire and then Independence. I leave via John belk and love the new,perhaps,8-10 floor storage building as you veer towards Indy. Love John.Belk and finally noticed the sign for "1550 Uptown"? not sure of the 1550. But lovely to see the top of it over the buildings closer to 277. I am MOST excited for the Inter-Contintental Hotel to rise and top out. Such an amazing brand of hotel for starters, and will continue that areas poshness with The Dunhill and Iveys. I wish The Bohemian was closer to the Blumenthal. I feel as if visitors to that hotel will walk out of its front door and kind of stand there asking themselves'What next" Oh well. The parking lots continue to disappear, and the Uptown population was recently estimated at roughly 30,000. Imagine what we will see take shape by 2030.
  9. Southern cities pride themselves on their tree canopies. Raleigh is often referred to as "The city of Oaks". However Charlotte is the actual city of oaks. But considering most cities in the south have billions of Oak trees...whats one to do right. Having said that. Charlotte wants the big city conveniences, without being toooo big city. One day there may be a hotel within walking distance from the terminal and yes, even a mid-rise or two. But we love our trees more at the moment. If you landed due North at the airport you might have noticed a cluster of 4-6 story office buildings. Thats the closest office space to the Airport. The trees in the office park might have camouflaged them come to think of it.
  10. I drove into Charlotte yesterday around noon from Concord. No traffic to speak of at all. Just normal Sunday traffic most likely die to church"s letting out with some event traffic of course. I expected much more once I got onto 77, but no. Same thing for 277. There was some activity around Bojangles arena. As I made my way back to concord at arounf 2pm, I noticed traffic had picked up some. The concord Mills exit was backed up for at least .25 miles maybe 1/2 mile. I took Poplar Tent exit 52 with no issues at all. As I watched the news over the weekend I didn't feel the energy or see the "mobs" of people I had expected. I think that Charlotte did a good job though. No major crimes. No major traffic accidents etc. I think the CPD might have deterred some people bacuse of just how tight security was. There was no reason that the city shouldn't have been all but crawling with traffic and uptown should have been super super busy. Rain or not. Just like NYC on any normal day, the show must go on. Charlotte, I believe, may be suffering from a bit of fatigue in many ways. The locals have dealt with the Panthers shake up. The Hornets are just now becoming good enoough to get people excited. But at the same time we hear of MLS and then theres the Knights baseball, and the unreal ,never-ending road construction all over the metro. And then you have the record amount of commercial and residential construction taking shape Uptown, Southend, Midtown. The BLE was a headache for years. All this to say, unless you were an AVID NBA fan, with thousands to spend, there was little point for locals to go uptown save for those living there. If the out of town crowd was relying on Charlotte to carry the entire event, that was dumb and makes no sense to me. And like previous post have said, chances are very few local fans were able to get seats. The event was more so for out of towners then locals IMO. Let them put us down. Theres always a group that does. But Charlotte just pulled off an event that was delayed, rightfully so, for two years. The event sorta had a dark cloud over its head due to former Governor Pat McCrory and HB2.
  11. Phillip Morris to be demolished.... https://www.independenttribune.com/news/former-philip-morris-alevo-plant-to-be-demolished/article_94ff59ba-19bc-11e9-b6c4-9f53e3b3375d.html#tncms-source=article-nav-next
  12. I drove 85S to 77S to the Brookshire, to Independance outbound to Briar Creek from 520-630pm... then INDY inbound to the John Belk, to 77N to 85N to George Lyles(exit54) from 640-720pm..... anyone have the pleasure of driving on the I's this evening??
  13. I will agree that Phoenix is an absolute nightmare all around. My guess is that it was created for people priced out of LAX and SD that still (for whatever reason) want to stay west. Its hot, it stinks, its frumpy, and the people are overall rude.
  14. This road design is exactly what they did at Poplar Tent and 85 with the new widening. I didnt notice in the picture here but on Poplar Tent there are Stop lights for the traffic making the U turn. Poplar Tent also has that design where you are driving on the wrong side of the road over the interstate , which is still strange, but its working I guess. Its a very controlled way of distrubting the traffic during rush hour especially. It seems to do a better job at evenly distributing traffic in areas that normally see traffic stand stills. BTW. I always make my uturn on red if its safe on Poplar. Most dont, but some do. Options are great to have. All great cities have them right"?
  15. One word Charlotte doesnt believe in is NEVER!.... I get everything you are saying , but Charlotte has been told never regarding so many things. The original Charlotte hornets NBA franchise, The Panthers NFL franchise was laughed at throughout the country!. The longer your a resident , the more you will see that being told "it'll never happen" is motivation in Charlotte . Magical things happen every day here. It's fun to watch!!
  16. Take John Belk around by BofA and get on 77N that way, theres no back up ever . Sitting on the other side of 277 to get on 77N is maddening. Once you get on 77N to 85N is still a mess, but Ive actually stayed on 77N to Inner 485 and stayed on 485 to the 29/Speedway exit just to avoid the stop and go.
  17. Same here. As long as theres a new tallest before I check out of this CF called life. Im 40, but I hope I dont have to wait til Im 80. Cheers!
  18. THANK YOU, finally. When I moved to Philly I was just shocked at the racial hostility and economic disparity. And then the drugs,,,,all over the place. Crack on the westside , herion in North Philly, Cocaine everywhere and meth in the Gay areas. It was like the powers that be were experamenting on their own city,. SO I moved 30 minutes from the city limits. Living in Philadelphia was truly depressing and had a pervasive hopeless feeling. Charlotte imo is MUCH farther along regarding race relations and neighborhood integration. University City is really the only TRUE diverse area of the city, Having diverse neighborhoods is the norm in UC and everyone gets along fine. In fact we kind of laugh at the rest of the city because of how fearful the idea of diversity is to so many Charlotteans.
  19. So I live in Concord about 5 mins from Harrisburg, I have many options to get into Charlotte and the one I take going in is rarely the same one I use coming out. Because of of the terrible merging issue onto 77 from the Brookshire I now take John Belk and exit N onto 77. Normally I would then merge onto 85 and take exit 49 Concord Mills to get home. I have now discovered its quicker, keeps moving for the most part and i avoid 85 completely. What is it you ask? I stay on 77N take Inner 485 cross over 85, its 4 lanes the entire time on 485 btw. Then I take hwy 29 exit which is the first exit after you cross 85 on the inner towards Mint Hill/Matthews. Its so awesome. I may never use 85 again!!!!
  20. Kudos to Raleigh and the Complete Triangle CSA for its impressive. I do hope Wake county passes Meck Co soon , so that can be put to rest, We have accepted that we will no longer have those bragging rights. Oh well. Im impressed with the surge in the 5-8 floor developments sprouting up around the Triangle. I love that NC has two power houses in regards to population, GDP, and in their own very different ways they are destination cities. Raleigh being the state capital with amazing museums and great shopping. Superb Universities all over the area. Charlotte for its somewhat flashier side of high end shopping in all ways and its own museums and theaters. A vibrant uptown area with upwards of 15,000 within a couple of square miles.
  21. Hi NASHVILLE FROM CHARLOTTE!! All I can say is very very very impressive. I last looked at your city on UP probably 4-5 yrs ago and I was not impressed just to be blunt. But after browsing this project thread I must say I'm super impressed. I think you guys could give Charlotte a run for her money over the next decade or so. Being from NC and having lived in or within 15 miles of uptown for about 20 yrs+ I am used to cranes and constant construction. I think I counted at least 7 or 8 cranes in a few of Nashville's recent photos. Im not overly impressed with a lot of the current architecture but the new towers are truly going to transform Nashville. I love Charlotte and I will always be partial to my city, but there's always room at the top. I love that southern cities like Nashville, Austin and Charlotte and of course Atlanta are making such amazing strides. I love the direction we are all going in and I think it's only going to get better. Once again, Nashvilles skyline is becoming big and beautiful and I will be watching these towers grow ever upwards!! I admit that I've only been to Nashville with work when I was a Flight Attendant and I stayed very close to the airport, so I haven't experienced Nashville per say.
  22. In today's world of international and domestic terrorism Im not so sure that people throughout the country are overly concerned with the riots in Charlotte. For sure we are though. It affects us right in our back yard and is something most of us haven't seen in real life. It was sad, scary and sadly people lost their lives. Im all for peaceful protest as my community , the LGBT community pretty much perfected the art of the protest...lol. What havent we protested about. But it was needed and it made change. The riots in Charlotte, though ugly and somewhat embarrassing, brought the city back to the table of race discussions. God forbid what happened in Charleston ever happen here. I think what Charlotte is known for nationwide is coming together as a city and getting things done. If we want something we make it happen, from professional sports to light rail we find a way and thats while all the while having to fight with Raleigh all along the way about something. We are strong, determined and moving forward.
