I personally think the expansion of CT's medical facilities is wonderful. St Francis Hospital is currently New Englands largest Catholic hospital and now will grow even more. Hartford Hospital added CCMC in 1996 (I think) and they've had additions and renovations also and lets not forget Yale New Haven Hospital's ambitious plans for a state of the art cancer center.

There are people out picketing Yale's new Cancer Center tonight. Just saw it on the news, no idea what the reasoning is....

Something about the hospital causing congestion, which causes asthma, which New Haven children suffer from in high levels...if I remember the propaganda commercial correctly.

Saint Francis receives $1.5M grant

12/01/08

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation to support the emergency department in the hospital's new John T. O'Connell Tower.

As a result of the grant, the Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation Emergency Department will expand Saint Francis' emergency services from 48 to 70 treatment bays and increase space for ambulances from six to 10 parking spots. A new helipad for medical helicopters will sit atop the 10-story tower.

Expected to begin operations in early 2011, the tower will encompass 318,000 square feet. In addition to the new emergency department, it will house replacement operating rooms, patient beds and facilities for the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute.

Based in West Hartford, the Hoffman Foundation was founded in 1983 by Marion O. Hoffman, whose husband, Maximilian E. Hoffman, was one of the first distributors of foreign automobiles in the United States. It supports charities in the areas of medicine, education and the arts.

Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets. It is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.

The steel frame is now peaking over the midrise office building at The Hartfords campus.

I will take some pictures here soon and show as best I can with it zoomed in.

in this picture the steel WOULD stick up a bit more than a floor from below the ip of the train.

and well now that I zoomed into the full sized image you can actually see some steel in the picture I post here.

it is WAY more visable now with the nekid eye though because this was maybe a month ago

The stell is now going up 1 more floor. It is now very visable from my perspective.

I will try and get a picture next week.

I have no idea what floor they are on right now but if I were to guess I would say this is the 10th and final floor. If they add 1 more from here it will certainly change the view West from downtown.
