Huge plan eyed for P&W site

Ann DeMatteo, Assistant Metro Editor

-NORTH HAVEN — Sometime in the next decade, several thousand people could be living, working and playing on 170 acres that once reverberated with the sounds and smells of aircraft part manufacturing.

It will take between five and seven years to build the massive residential, retail, office and recreation complex on the site of the old Pratt & Whitney plant, and the clock starts in September, when the developers who have been working on the $500 million project for six years ask the town for a zoning change.

It is not yet known what kinds of stores and entertainment outlets will be on the site, but Rabina Properties of Scarsdale, N.Y., envisions a four-phase plan that will include commercial and medical offices, a train station, 780 living units, stores and service businesses.

In New Haven there is a proposal for a $175 million mixed-use development that would put a 27-story residential tower on a 1.5-acre lot at the corner of Chapel and State Streets, two blocks east of the New Haven Green. It would be across the street from the State Street train station.

not much info there yet.

the site definately has potential. it looks like there is a lot of surface parking in the rendering. tree lined parking but parking just the same. It would be great if they ramp up the densities a little bit maybe structure some parking but I am sure that would make the costs prohibitive.
