I'm trying to imagine how this view would look without the tree canopy. What would it resemble and would it look better or worse?

Lennar, Legacy Union, Tryon Place and 401 South Graham will do a lot for this view of the skyline. Really going to be one incredibly girthy view. Will be the most impressive view of the skyline in charlotte.

Well considering this is the air quality cam, I would say a lack of trees would make uptown disappear into a blanket of choking smog. I agree with the sentiment though, there are some midrise buildings in South Charlotte that are entirely below the canopy, but without it I feel like it would look no better than some of the new areas of clear cut development in suburban parts of town.

And considering there are still a lot of gaps to fill, and it already looks this imposing, it will look amazing in the coming years. I think Charlotte's skyline is severely underrated, it doesn't hold any of the traditonal "records" like tallest or widest, or most buildings, but it's got good balance and variety. Not too many towers the same height, there's a distinct centerpiece, though I won't fight a 1,000+ footer.

Why in the world would you want the “widest” building?

It’s fun to dream and all, but Charlotte isn’t going to hold those kinds records, ever. But that’s not a bad thing. Unless we suddenly unearth huge oil fields underneath Mecklenburg County, Charlotte will never be a MEGA boom town. To expect or hope for anything of the sort would be ludicrous.

All I hope for is responsible, well planned development that is also pleasing to the eye.

^^^ In reference to the NBA franchise a Phoenix sports writer famously said the only franchise Charlotte would ever get is a McDonalds. Yet now we are so upscale we have the NBA team and no McDonalds uptown at least.   Charlotte has always punched way above its weight for sure.
