Apparently the hotel's raking in the cash and an ownership from NY is looking to buy the management rights for $66 mil and this would likely mean extensive renovation to the hotel.

More good news for downtown LR if this happens.

I understand the $66 million was not only for the DoubleTree but other properties in LR.

True, but someone from the A&P Commission said that renovations could be as much as $12 million.

Another thought. I didn't know that anyone that takes over hotel has to maintain a flag with either DoubleTree, Crown Plaza, Hyatt, Sheraton or Radisson. The city requires this. They think that the new owners would reapply to continue to be a DoubleTree property.

One would assume the city would write an exemption for a couple of other brands like Westin, Wyndham, Hilton, etc. It's kind of strange they picked the names they did.

It makes since that the city would like to keep a certain quality level for this hotel. The LR Doubletree is most likely a franchise. This means that no matter who the new owner is - they have to live out the franchise agreement currently in place unless they are excused from it by Hilton (who owns the Doubletree brand).

New bathrooms and 32" flatscreens in every room are part of the plans. Some exterior renovations will be made as well.
