This could also go under Growth & Development

The 12-story eye-sore(a.k.a. Saigon Hilton) that was an unfinished dormitory will be renovated w/ an additional floor into a 13-story hotel by Bluebonnet Hotel Ventures LLC

No exact date has been set; it should start sometime in 07'

This is prime location is between Mall of La./Boulevard and Perkins Rowe

Next to the 6-story new Advocate administrative offices.

The Bluebonnet Tower Apts. in the background

and if you strain your eyes enough you can see cranes(far left)at Perkins Rowe

That's a very big-city suburban type of shot, and it looks very cool. I like that area. I think it'll look great when that building is remodeled. Have they said what kind of hotel it will be?

No word of what kind of hotel as of yet; but it will be a nice 4-star hotel.

Yeah Brian Baton Rouge has a few "Big-City"/suburban areas. Baton Rouge is almost like a giant suburb like you wouldn't believe. That really hurt the CBD over the years. But that's changing.

Thanks Brian, I took that from the R.R. overpass that was harder to get to than I first realized.

Nothing wrong with having lots of major suburban areas, but they definitely could work on the CBD more. That is changing, though, finally. Looks like quite a bit of new developments are coming to your CBD, so hold on and enjoy it! :D

I was going to ask you if you were standing on the railroad tracks when you snapped that shot. Did you walk across the lawn at the advocate building or did you park near the Chase Bank and then walked along the tracks across Bluebonnet?

I parked at the bank, you can see the very tip of my car. Getting thru the brush to the tracks included alot of tiny thorns and plenty of misquistos and a little climbing. It was fun, not an everyday thing for sho.

Oh, I was thinking about the bank on the Mall's Property. The one that is across the street from where you were standing while taking that shot. You are a brave man to take that shot.

WOW! It's been 2 years since the last post; time to finally add a few more multi-storied buildings! Starting this old list was the Marriott at I-10/College Drive; old Republic Tower; Shaw Plaza, Jacobs, etc...looks like 6-floors is the cut-off to make the list.

Sorry these are not the best pics...

From I-10; nice car :silly:

Another pic of the Marriott (*BR's Tallest Outside the CBD*) going westbound I-10; nice 18-wheeler blocking the view :o

This thread is about finishing what you started....from Post #27 in late November of 06' when I was a newcomer... realize this is old news(posted plenty on other threads in past) now...but this thread was incomplete til I added this!

The unfinished dorm/eye-sore on Bluebonnet Blvd for how many years?? Transformed into the Renaissance...looks great behind Mall of La. cruising down I-10 overpass(need a pic from there)

june2012002.jpg

But this thread is not finished just yet...the new addition to the OLOL Hospital coming along on Essen Lane; the 4th floor looks to have a taller ceiling than the rest

OLOL building is massive. The ER will be about 6 times the current size, and it will have the ability to handle two medevac helecopters simultaneously.

Very big deal to Baton Rouge to have a hospital like that.

Here are some photos of tall buildings from east Memphis they would really help our downtown skyline look newer.

Thanks for the tour Memphis4ever :shades: that Clark Tower looks about 30-stories...impressive height for a location so far away from downtown! No doubt all of those buildings would have greatly added to the Memphis skyline...that GoldStrike Casino hotel tower would have looked better along the Memphis riverfront

Not sure itsjustme2...will have to check that out.
