Richmond audiences, especially those attending shows at The Landmark Theatre, can be notoriously rude. As soon as the finale of a show begins hordes rise and head for the exits in order to avoid jams in nearby garages.

Jennifer Hudson was the most recent victim. When she saw the rush of ticket-holders heading for the exits at her recent sold-out show, she instructed her stage manager to cut the encore. Pity, because it is the song that made her famous -- "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from DREAMGIRLS.

As mentioned in the Arts in Metro Richmond thread, tomorrow's "light" show along Broad and Grace between 5th and 8th Streets will be going on 'til Midnight.

You might also like to know that The National Theatre, right in the middle of all this activity, has RAILROAD EARTH, with HOLLY GOLIGHTLY AND THE BROKE-OFFS appearing at 9PM tomorrow night (9/25). Doors open at 8. -- $20 in advance, $22 at the door.

OR, if you want to slip into the Slip, TBurban's favorites, TEN OUT OF TEN have a show at the Hat Factory (formerly Toad's Place on the Canal.) $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Doors open at 8PM, which probably means the show begins at 9.

So, there you have additional entertainment in the area.

There is nothing scheduled on stage at The Carpenter Theatre or Gottwald Theatre tomorrow night. However, the Richmond Symphony makes its official debut in the Carpenter Theatre the next night, 9/26. And the Richmond Shakespeare Theatre will be the first attraction in The Gottwald also on Saturday.

The annual 2nd Street Festival is this week-end -- Saturday, October 3rd from Noon 'til 10PM and Sunday, October 4th from Noon 'til 6PM.

Thousands of people (weather permitting) will flow through four blocks of activity with plenty of food and music from Broad to Jackson Streets.

Second Street is often referred to as "Two Street" and/or "The Deuce."

The State Fair was very fun! The place is huge now... it took a half hour to walk to the car after the shuttle stopped.. that was the only bad thing.

I've also heard from others that the walk to and from your car to the fair grounds is pretty long if you don't use the shuttles. On its final day, arrangements were made to allow Fair parking on the King's Dominion lots.

Officials expect 2009 attendance at the new location in Caroline County will equal or surpass previous years when it was held at the Richmond International Raceway site. There were many more visitors from the Greater Fredericksburg area than in the past.

Between six and seven thousand people attended last week's First Friday Art Walk in the Gallery District, bounded roughly by Belvidere, Second, Broad and Clay Streets.

Richmond police now own a tower mounted on a pick-up type vehicle that rises about 25 feet above street level. It can accommodate two officers and provides excellent security and crowd control capability. I'm not sure it was used last Friday, but it was in the intersection of 7th and Broad during the recent InLight Art display.

The Richmond Folk Festival along the banks of the Haxall Canal begins this weekend and promises a lively and diverse line-up of entertainers.

And the Times Dispatch weather chart predicts partly sunny conditions with the possibility of scattered showers on Saturday.

We've succeeded in persuading Venture Richmond and the City to utilize the three flag poles at the foot of 5th Street and for improving the fountain at Tredegar and 7th Street. IMO, it would add excitement if boats of some description were allowed to ply the waters of Haxall Canal during the Festival.

Downtown is going to be heavy with festivals this weekend. In addition to the Richmond Folk Festival on the riverside, The Greater Richmond Convention Center between Broad, Leigh, 5th and 3rd Streets will host The Festival of India. It annually attracts thousands of visitors. I went a couple of years ago and it was a wonderful experience.

Admission is free and it runs Saturday and Sunday from 11AM 'til 9PM;

December 23rd will be a busy day in the theatre district. In addition to the final performance of Richmond Ballet's NUTCRACKER at The Carpenter Theatre, the Radio City Rocketts will be kicking up their heels for the first of three shows two blocks away at The Richmond Coliseum.

These precision dancing ladies are a sight to behold.

Anyone who is remotely interested in dance may find an upcoming program by The Richmond Ballet an enriching experience.

Running November 3rd thru the 8th at the dance company's Studio 1 Theatre are two ballets: APOLLO by George Ballanchine; and a new work and World Premier by Jennifer Lang called LINES SQUARED inspired by the works of modern artist Piet Mondrian.

Studio 1 Theatre is on the top floor of the Richmond Ballet Building at the corner of 5th and Canal Streets.

Michael Jackson's "This Is It", the film depicting his preparation for the London concert before his death, is packing 'em in at cinemas across the land.

A tribute band out of Carolina calling themselves "Who's Bad" has a very timely date tonight at The Hat Factory.

I notice that the Radio City Christmas show featuring The Rockettes at The Coliseum has added a fourth show.

A group of us are seeing the final performance of "The Nutcracker" at The Carpenter Theatre at 2PM on December 23rd, having dinner somewhere, then catching the Radio City 7PM show at The Coliseum.

This coming Saturday, November 14th, will mark the 32nd annual running of The Richmond Marathon which attracts thousands of participants.

Here's a video of the course from Richmond dot com made last summer by Phil Riggan.

http://www2.richmond.com/video/2009/jul/07/suntrust-richmond-marathon-course-video/

Note: Some of the Ric dot com videos stop and start for no apparent reason, so don't despair -- just wait a few seconds and it will resume.
