Louisiana | Photo of the Day

If I ever get back over to the Louisiana Purchase State Park up here in Arkansas I'll take a pic for you.. It marks where the land survey for the Louisiana Purchase started. But it's a pretty out of the way area out in the middle of nowhere. You have to go on a 1000 ft boardwalk through a swamp to see the old stone marker.

By the way how was the trip?

That would be really cool. I think it's great that they provided public access to the marker.

The trip was great, thanks. We had couple friends down from Texarkana, and we left Shreveport about 9:00 am to head down there for half a day. It was a nice time, and was actually the most time I'd ever spent in downtown Natchitoches. Before, I'd spent time down at their riverfront but hadn't actually walked around their downtown area.

Cool pictures from Natchitoches, Brian! Looks like a nice and interesting riverfront area there. Were you planning on starting a threaf for your Natchitoches pictures, or posting them a few at a time?

I thought I'd just post them here and there. That way I don't blow through them all at once. :)

But here are a couple more I'm really proud of due to their clarity, and I wanted to share. These are baby alligators eating the dog food that guests are encouraged to feed to them.

^Awesome man, I love the alligator shots. That's one of those situations where you suddenly really love the "zoom" feature!

Yep, most definitely. In this case, the zoom on my regular lens was sufficient. But the shots of the larger gators required the 300mm zoom, as I was all the way up in the back of a set of bleachers and quite a distance away from them. They've changed things at the park... the feeding shows used to be more "up close and personal," but I'm guessing maybe something went wrong. There was always a fence between you and the gators, and then you were still a couple of feet higher than them, but as you can see in the following photo, they can jump rather high when they're hungry. In this shot, one gator is about halfway up the side of a boat as the guys in the boat are trying to hand him a whole chicken to chow down on.

And here's the boat...

Wow, those gators do look hungry. Being from SE Louisiana, they're no stanger to me, and I always enjoy going on swamp tours and such down here. And I love that boat, the "Cajun Queen." It looks just like the Cajun Queen riverboat in New Orleans!

One of these days I'm going to take a New Orleans swamp tour. It's hard for me to get out and do anything in New Orleans other than the French Quarter, though, becuase you can have so much fun just in that area. And being a lover of urban settings, it's my perfect idea of paradise! :D

FYIt: On a totally different subject, if you love Raisin Cane's, this is their 10th anniversary and they are doing their large drinks in commemorative plastic cups right now. I got one today and will cherish it. :D I LOVE CANE'S!!!

I'm beginning to enjoy their chicken again, but I might just have to stop in and get a large lemonade. Man is that stuff good! Especially now when it's around 100 degrees every day. :D

I like their chicken, but I LOVE their toast and Cane's sauce. But I have to eat the chicken so I get full. Man I love that place. I almost did Popeye's today, though, out of convenience... but I HAD to drive to South Highlands just to eat at Cane's.

I like it actually.

Hey, I don't think it's that bad, but it's no Empire State Building either. ;) It's kind of an icon of sorts in New Orleans as it has been standing tall there next to the Superdome for nearly 40 years now, but I'll still be happy to see it renovated to a beautiful modern condo tower.

Not bad. Is that with Image Stabilizer?

Yep, I had IS turned on. You can see that the right side of the photo actually came out pretty clearly, but the left side was very blurry, and that would be because I was moving towards the end of the shot.

Wow! Largest outside of Las Vegas? That's must be some casino.

It's a very nice casino, and has constantly been ranked as one of the top casino's in the country since it was built a few years ago. And in a way, it's the center of Louisiana's gaming industry, especially economically.
