Wow, it took me a minute to figure out what that was. I thought it was Sparrow Hospital's campus in Lansing.

Also, here are a few photos that Amy took. The course was a muddy mess and included the "Spiral of Death." (see below) It was a fantastic way to end the season for our local cyclocross racing series. (if you don't count the Sno-Cross race in February)

I think I'd get nauseous going in circles like that. It's a cool looking course, but I'm surprised they'd allow that on a football field. Doesn't it shred the turf? :)

The rain made sure there was no getting nauseous. You couldn't go fast enough slogging through the mud. :)

Anyhow, the field had freshly been aerated and I think that we just helped continue that process along. I imagine they reseed in the spring. This was the second year we had the season finale race at that site and the field maintenance guy has been really excited about it and helps setup and tear down. It's a great venue because there are so many fun ways to utilize the stadium for the course.

Below is a photo from last year. The route actually spelled out "HUP" which is a sort of cyclocross slang word. (http://kisscross.smugmug.com/KISSCROSS-2008/Holland-2008/6846284_bLRvy#437747915_UeMnF)

"Hup-A chant, taunt, or cheer, used in many European sporting events; synonymous with Go! Go! Go! It’s rumored that Belgian parents tell their kids to go to bed by saying, “Hup! Hup! Hup!”"

i'm not by any means trying to say that the city is nationally prominent in terms of the skyline, all i'm asking is if anyone agrees with me, that the marquee shot on the river, that shows three buildings, has run it's course, and it's time for national media outlets, and local ones to use new views of the city. It may not have alot of hieght, but it certainly has more depth and density than this one demensional shot gives, I just think it's boring. So instead of comparing us to other cities, is anyone picking up what i'm laying down?

If I may humbly dissent... I think the shot (that is, the angle) is rather timeless. Perhaps it's easy for us to be bored with it, especially since collectively, we probably prefer something with more density, like the example given earlier, driving SB I-75 through the gritty urban landscape of Dayton.

I mean no disrespect to the shooter of the photo you posted, but on a technical and compositional level, it is not really that great of a shot.

Just my opinion. :)

Not that there's anything wrong with that traditional photo, it's probably just a symptom of living here and seeing some variation of it over and over. Personally, I'd like to see someone find a way to get Riverhouse, Van Andel Institute, Devos Children's Hospital, etc. incorporated into the city's glamour shot.
