I've never seen so many people on the blue bridge as this weekend. Anyone know if there was some kind of walk-a-thon or a GVSU event?

Mars Hill Church organized an AIDS gathering at The Big "O" (Rosa Parks).

I walked by when the band was just getting started. They were pretty good.

INTERNATIONAL AIDS CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL

Thousands of communities around the world will gather today to

remember those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. The International

AIDS Candlelight Memorial Campaign, a program of the Global Health

Council, is a 12-month mobilization project that encourages communities

and individuals around the world to become more involved with HIV/AIDS

work through participation in the worldwide memorial. The local

observance will promote the four main objectives: raising community

awareness, decreasing stigma, mobilizing community involvement and

promoting global solidarity while showing support for those living with

HIV/AIDS and remembering loved ones who lost the fight. As the theme

for this year's event is Lighting the Path for a Bright Future, this year's

Memorial will commence with 'The Concert of Hope' featuring the

performances of four local bands who join with the Candlelight Memorial

Committee in one-year of HIV/AIDS activism. Join us this afternoon at 3

pm at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids.

I know it's not GR but it's still in the Metro area isn't it? I had to throw in one of Grand Haven today. (Too bad I couldn't make it up to a real city, with real things going on like Traverse City :P !)

Had to add my own from the Kite Festival Saturday:

Downtown really appeals to the empty nesters

Beaners staked out quite a high profile spot

I'll be glad when all the construction signs don't clutter up my shots

Now we just need a few skyscrapers in the backgrounds of these and we'll be stylin!

That's all for today, enjoy!!

^Nice kite pics, those are beautiful.

I was at Rosa Parks Circle a little later to see my favorite local band Broken Sunday. It was a great concert, but a little cold on Sunday night. Concerts there are really cool! :)

GRDadof3, I never thought of urban photography as a specialty, but you have defined the art. Your work is very nice. Keep them coming.

Was that you walking east on the south side of Fountain between Ottawa and Ionia late this afternoon? If it was I'm even more impressed. You were shooting while walking.

Thank you civitas, and no, wasn't me. Fountain was one street I was not on yesterday.

I agree! GRDadof, your photographic style keeps getting better and better. (Though be warned! I plan on supplying some competition soon. :D )

I recall seeing the corner of Butterfield and Butterfield somewhere in the Chicago area. When I was a kid, that just blew my mind...

Seinfeld episode where Jerry's girlfriend is the maid.................

JERRY: Well, what street are you on?

KRAMER: Hey, I'm on first and first. How can the same street intersect with itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe.

JERRY: Just wait there. I'll pick you up, and, Kramer, stay alive no matter what occurs, I will find you!

KRAMER: Aah!

I've seen deer within the city limits of Grand Rapids before. And I see them every week out here in Caledonia where I work.

Oh definately w/in the city limits. I work near 44th/Eastcastle - I see deer a least once a month in the fall. Quite a bit for an urban area! Usually a group of them, actually.

I posted some non-GR, Up North Michigan (but still worthwhile) photos here in the Michigan section.

Jeff, those photos are great. Torch Lake looks like a wonderful place to visit. The weather on Saturday was perfect to check out South Haven for the first time:

You guys have no idea how much I miss home right now. Don't take clouds and violent weather for granted. I miss summer most of all, and the bad weather that comes with it. Give me 90 humid and cloudy any day over sun, everyday. I hate it. All the pics that show MI in the summer I love!

Those South Haven shots are great dbrok. Brings back memories. Did you get a chance to go to the Idler?

No, didn't make it there. Did go to the Thirsty Perch and The Fish Tale, though. Thirsty Perch was great (and cheap).
