Recall from eariler this year, Miller wanted to put a restaurant where the Old Howard Johnsons used to be. The Ale House wanted to be open for this fall, however their plans were set back a touch.

I'd really like to see the property they want to build on, used for a highrise building like a hotel or commercial office building.

My favorites are:

- Cypress (get the truffle appetizer - it is VERY good)

- Roadhouse Grill

- Ted's (beer-battered chicken is awesome)

- Decent Pizza (they have Bradley's sausage)

- Atlanta Bread Company (soup bowels!)

- Manna's Grill (roasted potatoes are the best)

Has anyone eaten at Bella Bella? I've seen and heard of it, but never went.

Manna's is good. Plain and simple. Everything from their catfish and cheese grits (menu special during lunch sometimes - and I don't even care much for fish) to their very nicely picked steaks. And, you can never forget those roasted potatoes and fresh green beans. Oh my yes.

And leave room for dessert - they have a TO DIE FOR chocolate cake with chocolate chips on the side.

If you ever just wanted to pop your head in, you can view the majority of their food in a "take-out" fashion - behind glass off to the left side of their restaurant.

My boyfriend is friend's with the brother of the owners wife - so I have connections . . . not that it gets me free food, but hey - I'll advertise anyway because it's that good.

I'm told that the owner hand-picks the meat (especially the steaks), generally is making/stirring something in the kitchen, and I know for a fact that he eats his own cooking (which you too can tell at a glance) - always good signs!

Need to know more?

I would say the prices . . . are pretty regular/slightly "upscale" - closely tied with Teds. Might be a bit more - truthfully, my boyfriend normally picks up the tab so I'm not quite sure.

For two, I would hazard to guess the bill would be in the mid to high $30s - higher if you buy alcohol or if you're a nice tipper. :D

LOL! I like to tip nicely, so I assume a dinner for two is about $40!

I won't be eating there much! My Gorsh, what is a poor guy to do. I have wine taste on a water budget.

I'd like to add, I did take the time out to read your article in the FSView and it was very very very well written. I'll be looking for more of your work in the future. I'm not a normal reader of the FSView, but you've surely turned me on to it.

I am new to Tallahassee so there are many restaurants I have yet to try. Although I have only been to Ted's once, it was great and I will go back. Others I like:

Clusters and Hops (http://www.winencheese.com/menu.html)

Food Glorious Food (http://www.foodgloriousfood.com/index.html)

Bonefish Grill (http://www.bonefishgrill.com/home.asp)

Reangthai (http://www.reangthai.com/)

My favorite Pizza joint is Barnaby's.

Clusters and Hops is on Monroe just before the Thomasville split. It is tucked away in a little strip of shops. It is also a great wine and cheese store.

FGF is at Thomasville and Betton Rd. in the Betton Place shopping center. This is a great place to have lunch outside when the weather is favorable.

Reangthai is on Capital Circle NE near Espositos garden center. It is in a shopping center on the opposite side of Espositos.

Agh! I forgot to add Reangthai to my original list! It is excellent. I was raised as a vegetarian and although I currently eat meat (somewhat - due to my boyfriend's influence), I often order vege dishes because that is what I like and what I'm used to. Reangthai has TWO WHOLE pages of vege dishes.

I love them. And the food is great. It's also very quiet - not to much of a crowd often times.
