How is work progressing on the Heidelberg/Capitol House restoration/renovation? It will be interesting to see what sort of average daily room rate they'll be able to pull off. I'm glad that someone has finally had the courage to forge ahead with restoration plans.

It's coming along fairly quickly. I was in the area today...lots of progress has been made, but there is still much to be done. I'm not sure what the timeline to completion is, but judging from what I saw today, I would say sometime in 2006 the restored hotel will be operational.

Yes the progress continue rolling forward. It should be ready to open later this year; by the late Summer or early Fall ! Can't wait !!!

Thats great! I saw the progress being made on the hotel when I was in Baton Rouge on the 4th, but I hadn't heard any ideas of when eveything would be completed.

There are plans for the historic 7-story Hotel King to be renovated into a 100-room boutique hotel across the street from the Capitol House. Hotels tend to feed off of each other . I hope this trend continues !

Downtown BR development keeps rollin' forward , gaining momentum !

Thanks for the website BRPJ , after being closed for 21-years, it's great to see this Hotel opening back-up. This restoration project is so BIG for the renaissance for downtown BR.

21 years? Wow, I had no idea. Very cool, and very good to see it on Hilton's website now.

Lots of cool things happening in downtown Baton Rouge, and there couldn't be a better time for it all with all the people commuting between Baton Rouge and New Orleans these days. It's great to see!

This is such a great thing to happen for the rebirth of Downtown. I can't wait to see the ballroom at the top, on the 10th or 11th floor depending on who you talk to ? This will be the catalyst for other nice projects to follow. Earlier this week it was announced the old absbestos-filled Advocate bldg. just a few blocks away, will be demolished before the end of the year. Look for a nice multi-story/mixed-use development to go there. And between both of them, the long-awaited 30-story River Place condominiums.

The new Hilton will bring a lot of activity downtown. Things are picking up down in that area. I like to go and ride my bike on the top of the levee and while down there last night I rode around the rivercenter, old capitol and the shaw center. There were people walking around down there. I was pleasently suprised to see people down there on a Saturday night.

We were downtown Sat. evening too ! I was suprised to see all the activity around there as well. It is very encouraging to see the life coming back. And it has only just begun.

One negative that has recently occured is Columbia Sussex which bought out Argosy's Belle of BR, has made SoGo Live leave within thirty days. Now Columbia Sussex is suing SoGo bec. they claim stayed too long and owe back rent. No way ! SoGo is/was very good for downtown with all the great live music; SoGo's ideas were taken from venue's like the one's in Austin and Nashville. SoGo will be looking to relocate somewhere else. They were very sucessful and catered to the younger 20's and 30's crowd like the Nashville's and Austin's.

I agree, that is not a positive sign. I hope SoGo is able to find a new home downtown. I wonder what Columbia Sussex plans to do with the space once SoGo Live has moved out.

Good question ! You would think they would want something that sucessful next door ? Was it hurting casino business ? They are taking some heat from the city or soon will be.

If anything it should have been helping their business. More people in the area means more people willing th gamble. I don't remember any reports of the crowds at SoGo Live being rowdy or unruly.

IT'S TRUE ! They do have an "Imfamous Tunnel" at the Capitol House. There is a private wine cellar down in the basement; the tunnel is near. The tunnel goes under Lafayette Street to the old King Hotel. I have heard people say it's creepy. This is something I definitely want to check out when the hotel opens !

I think the wine cellar and at least part of the tunnel are being used as part of one of the restaurants in the new hotel.

Check-out the top floor yall. That's the ballroom. I can't wait to see the view of the river from up there ! I like the Mediterranean roof-trimming too. WOW, this is so BIG for downtown BR. It's scheduled to open Aug.31st...just a few days before the LSU Football season starts. It was just announced Hilton/Downtown/LSU have partnershiped and will do a Sunday Night Live LSU Football show ! :w00t:
