Wilmington Economic Development

Wilmington which I get to once a year is booming so it will be good to have someone on the ground there.  And there is a lot more business than tourism there the port, PPD, the fintech, manufacturing etc.   Downtown is booming too with RiverPlace and new apartments.  It is like a Charleston 10 years ago.  So once you get there flood the site with photos too.

The three racist WPD officers are now trending nationally. Not a good look.

Race relations have always been Wilmington’s Achilles heel.

Going back to its founding....

It's so interesting to know that before 1898 Wilmington was a Black majority city, and even had a prosperous freed-slave population before the massive 1898 Massacre

Actually it was the first and only time in the USA in which an elected government was violently overthrown.

These are excellent jobs for Wilmington.  NCino the fintech company based here is planning another 90,000 sq ft building in Mayfaire and adding 600 plus parking spaces in a deck indicating they are adding 100s of people in Wilmington in the future.  They employ 700 here now.    Average salary $100K

Was in Wilmington about 48 hours and ran into 2 different tv and movie productions going on downtown.   Fox's People Like Us new series was filming downtown and a Hallmark Channel movie called Christmas in Harmony filmed a scene on Market St near the Kilwins notice the Christmas decor and fake snow.

Could development come to the west side of the Cape Fear River?  Let's see what happens!!!

WECT (local NBC affiliate) is reporting that this would be a $700 MILLION dollar project.  This would definitely overwhelm downtown Wilmington, but I don't think it's too far out of line for the other side of the river.  Will definitely be an interesting proposal to follow, should know a bit more after info from the community meeting next week is released.
