Piedmont Triad International Airport to be renamed......

PTI will be renamed to Central North Carolina International Airport. I don't like it. It goes against the idea of branding the Triad. They changed the name because people around the country don't know where the Piedmont Triad is. How about finding ways to make the Triad more known nationally.

Yeah, I hate the new name and I think the airport authority really over thought this whole name change.  Definitely would have liked Greensboro-Winston Salem International Airport better.  Along with trying to promote the location of the airport I think they were trying to not offend any of the other cities around the Triad so they decided to play it safe and go with Central North Carolina International instead of having any city names included in the new name.

What about Gate City International Airport? Seems that the city has invested quite a bit in the city’s nickname lately.  The airport serves the surrounding cities, but to be honest, it is in the city and impacts them the most. Greensboro will soon be an affordable weekend getaway.  Get into town from a convenient hotel, check in, head to a nice dinner at a downtown restaurant, and head out on the town.  Wake up in the morning for brunch. Head out shopping for the day and come back to hang out at the hotel pool and chille at the park with a glass of wine in hand.  Shower up for a grasshoppers game, several brewery stops, a show within easy walking distance.

People in town for the Wyndham, ACC basketball and baseball tourney, skimming diving comps, and music events can associate the name with the city.

Sorry this is what happens when three glasses of wine hits...

The public thinks it's terrible, there is an online petition to stop the name changes and thousands have already signed it but it's going to do not good. If they were going to change it, it should have been changed to Greensboro/Winston-Salem International Airport. If High Point's feelings get hurt for not being  included in the name oh well. The name would be too long to add High Point.

How about a decent compromise solution?

North Carolina Triad International Airport (NCTriad for short) is an option. Basically replace Piedmont with North Carolina. It lets outsiders know the airport is in North Carolina (which is what the airport authority wants), with Triad included it pinpoints the location in the state. Its better than Central North Carolina which could be in Durham. Dont see much option considering they probably wont include the city names. Having all three city names is too long. But also North Carolina Triad International flows off the tongue better than Central North Carolina International.
