Company moving into Tech Park, will create 230 jobs

 

Stixis Technologies Inc. opened its first U.S. development center Thursday at Louisiana Technology Park, a move expected to create 230 new jobs in Baton Rouge over the next five years and one that adds to a growing list of tech companies in the state.

 

Louisiana’s economic development department said those jobs will carry an average annual salary of $59,500 — an annual payroll of nearly $13.7 million.

 

“As exciting as Louisiana’s historic manufacturing investment boom is, the reality is that the fastest-growing industry in Louisiana today is software development,” Stephen Moret, the state’s secretary for economic development, said after a news conference. “We’ve cultivated the software development and digital media sectors.”

 

He noted that several companies, including Stixis, “recently have announced major projects that collectively will create more than 5,000 new, direct tech jobs in our state — most of which will be filled in the next three years.”

 

Based in Bangalore, India, Stixis engineers software, coupled with application management, maintenance and support for customers across a range of sectors. Those sectors include oil and gas, health care, digital media and entertainment, education, retail and government.

 

“This is a global company,” Gov. Bobby Jindal noted at the technology park at 7117 Florida Blvd. in the Bon Carré Business Center. “They didn’t have to build this site in Louisiana. They decided this was the best place.”

 

Stixis chose Louisiana for its project after considering several other states, including Virginia, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.

 

Founded in 2009, Stixis operates a development center in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a U.S.

sales office in the Dallas area.

 

In addition to the 230 direct jobs, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development estimates the Baton Rouge project will result in an additional 233 indirect jobs.

Oh hooray, more competition for limited parking!

With the Tech Park continuing to grow.... it would seem a vertical parking deck could be feasible given the more limited space?

 

Years ago a loose rumor was put out that an 8-story office building would go up in the front(as an anchor) with all of the rapid growth; however after the great recession a mini-strip shopping center went in it's supposed place.  There are no height restrictions to my knowledge for the area or NIMBY's to really stop it...if you can't expand outward you have to go upward!

Video game developers at Baton Rouge technology park look to release five games over next year

Baton Rouge natives Michael Taranto and his younger brother Matthew Taranto gained experience for developing video games by playing video games—lots and lots of video games.

Combining years of yelling at the screen in frustration with the knowledge of what makes an exceptional game and a shared love of music, the brothers jumped headfirst into developing a game two years ago while still maintaining their day jobs. Sometime in the next two months, their work will culminate in the release of their first game: Tadpole Treble for Nintendo’s Wii U

When the game hits store shelves, it will mark the first of five games scheduled for release during the first half of 2016 by a group of developers in the Louisiana Technology Park. Four developers work in the tech park’s Level Up Lab, which focuses on fledgling digital media and high-tech firms, while the fifth plys his trade in the tech park’s incubator.

North Carolina software development firm to open Baton Rouge office at Louisiana Technology Park 

BlueLine Associates, a software development firm headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, announced plans today to open a Baton Rouge office in the Louisiana Technology Park on Florida Boulevard.

The company says the new office will eventually be home to 40 employees with an average salary of $40,000 plus benefits. The Baton Rouge office will be BlueLine’s fourth in the U.S. Established in 2009, the company provides business process management services to improve processes, support the implementation of information technology systems and create information management systems.

“BlueLine is very excited about expanding our presence to Baton Rouge,” says BlueLine President Rocky Silvestri in a prepared statement. “The new office will primarily focus on application development, so we plan on hiring local developers, QA engineers, project managers, support agents and supervisors, along with administrator managers. Our applications are contracted by startups and Fortune 500 companies.”

A news release from Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office issued this afternoon does not specify when the company plans to open the Baton Rouge office or when hiring will begin. Louisiana Economic Development says in the release that it began discussing a Baton Rouge office with BlueLine in October.

The state is offering the company an incentive package that includes workforce development assistance via LED’s FastStart program. The company also is expected to utilize Louisiana’s Digital Interactive Media and Software Development Incentive, as well as the Quality Jobs Program.

The digital media incentive provides for a 25.2% tax credit on qualified payroll for in-state labor and 18% for qualified production expenses through June 30, 2018, and a 35% tax credit on qualified payroll for in-state labor and 25% for qualified production expenses for expenditures on or after July 1, 2018. Average salary of 40k for a team of software engineering team is very low. Most entry level devs should fetch around 45 to 50k in BR. Here in DFW, we are paying around 65k to 70k for entry level. Even the PM and QA positions thrown in and that average is low.
