Pour le petit dejeuner et le dejeuner:

French chef Ali Benhamed will open LA PARISIENNE BISTRO AND CAFE on the corner of 10th and Canal Streets in July.

The 59-seat space on the ground floor of the Williams Mullen tower will offer breakfast and lunch, but may expand its hours if business warrants.

**Hookah, Burt, Hookah :)

 Oooops! Just another sign of senility.

I was just looking at the collection of pix at Off The HookAH website and wondering how long the powers in Richmond will allow it to operate. The very diverse clientele seems to be having too much fun.

Church Hill has a new eating option. It's called STRAIGHT OUT OF PHILLY at 306 North 29th Street (between East Broad and East Marshall Streets.)

According to a commentator, it is fully "halal", meaning no pork is served.

Here is the menu supplied by John Murden of Church Hill Peoples News:

A new, upcoming Discovery Channel series called "Road Eats" will feature THE BLACK SHEEP on West Marshall at Gilmer Street in Richmond's Carver neighborhood.

Air date has not yet been announced, but I'll post it here as soon as Deveron Timberlake prints it in her Style Weekly column.

Lou Llovio writes in his RTD Biz Buzz column today that Richmond Restaurant Group will transform a Carytown corner into its newest dining creation.

Though Lou doesn't mention her name, I assume Michelle Williams is still the Empress of Richmond Restaurant Group which owns and operates THE HARD SHELL, THE HILL CAFE, EUROPA, deLUX and (I believe) WATER GRILL A partner in the restaurant empire is Jared Golden and it is he who has announced that a shop once known as Glass & Powder Boardshop at 2934 West Cary Street will be their newest venture.

The 4,500 s/f building is on the northeast corner of West Cary and Sheppard Streets and, if zoning is approved, will carve out a patio space in its facade and have windows on both streets. $1.3 million is being invested in the project. An opening date has not been mentioned.

Meanwhile, HARD SHELL SOUTHSIDE in the former Outer Banks at Belgrade is aiming to launch in September. The flagship HARD SHELL is about two miles from Carytown on EAST Cary Street in Shockoe Slip between 14th and 15th Streets.

Deveron Timberlake reveals today in her Short Order column at Style Weekly that award-winning 4-star Chef Michael Hall will open his anticipated BISTRO M next week.

The location on the street level of 210 Rock at Rocketts Landing will launch with daytime service before adding dinner hours.

Deveron's description sounds decidely uptown.

Dana Craig offers her opinion of THE CONCH REPUBLIC in today's RTD, but fails to rate the new waterfront restaurant with her usual stars. Maybe that's an oversight in the RTD's production department.

Food and service may be less than impressive at this newest of Rocketts Landing eateries, but conviviality ranks high. However, some who have an aversion to loudness may take a pass and wait for Michael Hall's M BISTRO AND WINE BAR (see posting immediately above.)

CONCH REPUBLIC (remember, landlubbers: Conch is pronounced "Conk".)

No rating.

11 Orleans Street, on the banks of the James River at Rocketts Landing (between The Boathouse and Skyline Condos.)

SELBA hopes to open its doors at 2416 West Cary Street in July. It is across from the old GRTC car barns. More explicitly, it's between Stafford Street and Davis Avenue on the north side of Cary -- about a block west of Jimmy Snead's FRESCA.

RVANews editor Nathan Cushing writes in a unique style about the new restaurant and illustrates the piece with interesting photographs.

Executive chef Abram Jackson explains to Cushing that SELBA's menu will be heavy on vegetarian/vegan offerings, although one specialty will be linguine made from pureed scallops that have been pushed through a pasta extruder.

There will be a large bar and at least two dining areas, one of which is a "garden" room where cucumbers and even citrus fruits grow.

Dana gives it 3 Stars!
