  1. I've seen the trees coming down. Before long, we will probably be getting a bunch more mediocre-looking, all brick ranch houses or weird two-stories with huge entryways, that have aluminum soffits, ugly plastic garage doors with the garages stuck out front farther than the rest of the house, weird rooflines, and satellite dishes. Each one will have two tiny 5-foot trees and 10 $7 shrubs planted in front of it. Ugh. Then, when they don't sell, the developers and builders will blame the slowdown in the housing market or the bad economy!
  2. It would be nice as a visitor's center, for sure.
  3. Sodie's was a regular restaurant that served everything. The service was horrendous. There is another Sodie's in a small town in AR somewhere. The woman who owns it opened this restaurant for her kid, a dope who apparently drank or used drugs and played video games all day. That's why it failed. I think it would be a great location for a nice restaurant. What a beautiful building and patio they have. Breakfast there in an upscale environment would do really well on farmer's market days.
  4. Amen to that! That's WHY you move near Dickson, for heaven's sake! You are right on all counts. I can hear Dickson street where I live, on Prospect just up the hill from Wilson Park, as if they were in my backyard. I think it's pretty cool, to tell the truth.
  5. The Courts at Whitham. A half block of Arkansas on Whitham.....
  6. That is a gorgeous spot and should be a really great project. How cool--cottages! I hope they are properly designed.
  7. I think these things are all worth it tho I wish they would be funded through an income tax or property tax increase vs. sales tax. Sales tax is so regressive (hurts the poorest the hardest) and we already have insanely high sales tax here. That said, I will vote for all 4.
  8. Awesome--never seen anything like that. Maybe it won't be as cheesy looking as the typical family-oriented park, even tho i find those places tons of fun.
  9. Me, too, Mith. I have had a lot of fun at those places with my kids and I really hope this gets built.
  10. I understand the Joyce/College issue. Crossover is another matter, however!
  11. I wish they would spend the money on College between North and Dickson. This is much more critical to me as it leads to the heart of our city vs. trying to build a "new" Fayetteville out there at Mission and Crossover. This is, after all, called URBAN planet, not SUBurban planet. I am not real interested in the 'burbs. Been there, done that, in many different cities. It's an alienating place. Let's make Fayetteville the city envisioned in our new master plan, not just another bland suburban metroplex.
  12. I agree with you, Mith. I think a lot of folks are real confused about what's good and what's not in the long term. As I said earlier, strip malls and bad subdivisions are the enemy, not high- and mid-rise buildings in our downtown area. I think, too, you are right about following the plan. Every development that's done should reflect our pedestrian orientation by having sidewalks and smaller/less parking lot entrances, and trees planted on consistent intervals between the sidewalk and street.
  13. That's an interesting question, Mith. Yes--I think the Duncan street area near the HS has some reasonably -priced houses that will go up just due to their proximity to everything else. I also think the neighborhood over by Woodland Jr. High has some potential to go up in value due to its location and trees---it's still somewhat reasonable over there. Downtown B-Ville has to be good with the Crystal Bridges Museum going in. Farther out, I think Goshen is the up and coming rural suburban area. What do you think is gonna be hot? Looks like they are already working. Yee-Haw!
  14. I am interested in fighting strip malls, not highrises! Why doesn't anyone protest another bad strip mall like the ones being built on 6th street near farmington????
  15. Amen to that, Mith. I am 100% opposed to height restrictions. They are counter to making us the urban center and encourage strip development with parking out front.
  16. Thanks for the info. That Nock is one bold, big thinker! I will be interested to hear more!
  17. My understanding is Nock has a huge land development project in the works on the order of 600-800 acres. It, too, would be neourban. Maybe this 30-acre project is the very first phase of his ultimate planned development. I am with you, Mith. Get spread too thin and nothing gets built!
  18. You are done good at that! I really enjoy your photos here.
  19. It's a really nice little gallery. In fact, my family has an art show coming up there in the next couple months sometime. My mother in law paints, my father in law paints, my sister in law paints, my wife paints and does pottery, and I dabble a bit myself.
  20. Bentonville does have it's Art Walk and Fusion (the new gallery) is a nice addition.....
