So if no one closes - and I imagine that's a very real possibility since most everyone who plunked down a deposit has seen their equity vaporize - will this soon become Charlotte's newest luxury apartment rental complex?

Appraisals - egads, that could be scary!
  3. March 2004 taken from land where Courtside currently sits. On far right you can see beginning construction of ImaginOn. Breakfast Club before it was painted and still has the legendary "Paso's Cut Rate" sign in back. Cranes in background starting to build the arena.

I never said the top looked like garage doors. I said it looked like roll-up storage doors.

And unfortunately it's the most visible part of the building. Sort of like a swimsuit model with a face like Amy Winehouse.
  6. I could be wrong - and usually am - but It appears to me that they're adding an additional three floor "layer" to the top of this building compared to its rendering. So it may look like a Rubic's Cube with four rows instead of three.
  7. And having the state government as a major employer does not hurt either. Public sector jobs are expanding much more than private sector jobs these days.
  8. Wow those are some serious nosebleed seats! :-)
  9. Totally agree. The online poll the Observer did a week ago or so showed that 70% of those responding wanted a name change. Post the Johnson rant, I wouldn't be surprised if that number is closer to 85-90%. Time to wipe the slate clean and get Bob's name out of our memory banks.

hould be occurring soon after that. The outside elevator should come down in mid April and almost all the remaining work needing to finish the building should be interior. No one will move in until at least August, but it should "look" finished very soon. I wonder how much this will help their sales.
  11. Phew....when I saw this posting I thought maybe monsoon was back!!

Saw that too. For a split second I felt like I was driving around Miami...
  13. Also, did anyone happen to notice all the broken down cars on the highways this weekend? Seemed like there was one every mile or so on I-77!
  14. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but it appears many of the road signs on I-277 have been replaced with newer, more accurate ones. For example, Eleventh Street has finally been given its just due, finally being mentioned on one of the exit signs leading to Brevard and Davidson Street. It also appears that most exits have been given exit numbers. None of the "Bobcats Arena" signs have been changed to "Time Warner Cable Arena", however.
  15. That's pretty rare to get comments that are pro-uptown. Most of the people who seem to troll on there are right wing, anti-transit, anti-government, anti-arts, anti-everything haters. As someone on this board once said, the best thing about the Observer website is the "disable comments" feature.

    August 2005 I believe.

There is an article about the Vue in today's observer. Surprisingly, prices for remaining units are about the same as the ones sold two years ago. Vue developer: Condos ready for tenants this fall

Perhaps that's not really a crown at all, but actually the tenant storage units :-)

I agree. So far it looks tacky as all heck.
  20. Considering the city's exposure to the banking sector, I'm actually surprised we're even that high!
  21. Does anyone know when the construction for the underground garage begins?
  22. Couldn't agree more. Not to mention that their lots seems to be horribly maintained.

    Courtside

In Uptown there is a Salsarita's on South Tryon St and and Jolina's Tex Mex on S. College near the Green.

    Courtside

No complaints from me....I certainly prefer the former. There can never be enough sushi places! I will be curious to see how this restaurant handles the parking situation there. I believe there are only 8 or 10 retail parking spaces in the Courtside/Court6 garage and an additional 8 or so metered spaces on 6th Street. Perhaps they will lease parking from the large surface lot across Caldwell or Autumn Place nursing home next to Courtside.
