    The Plaza

The theatre definitely needs an automated kiosk. I walked by this weekend and the line wrapped around the 2nd floor platform.

    55 West

I moved downtown from Metrowest a few months ago. Yes, getting to my building can be a bit of a pain depending on which direction I'm coming from and how much traffic there is. There will be (more) construction on South St in the near future and that will affect me. But I keep it all in perspective. I don't drive as much as I used to. I can walk to the movies, library, nightlife & restaurants now. I'm much closer to work, and to groceries. In the end I'm spending less time in my car, less $$ on gas, and more time walking.

Plaza Cinema Cafe has updated their website. It doesn't look so amateurish. It also looks like they've added late movies on Fri & Sat night. Hopefully this is a sign they are doing well. I have to admit 2 months ago I was quite skeptical about this establishment. Now I find myself quite enthused by it.

Maybe DowntownDarryl can post pictures for us...hint, hint.

You hear it inside your place or from the balcony?
  6. I don't think it would turn into a ghetto. What will probably happen is that it will be condemned, since there is no power in the hallways and elevators. It will probably become something similar to the Colony Hotel in Ocoee.
  7. I would have liked to see that movie theatre developed when I was living in MetroWest. I honestly see Azzouz the owner being dragged into court over this.
  8. I think Fye is closing because of technology updates. I can't remember when myself or anyone I know bought a CD.
  9. I'm a big fan of West Palm Beach. Mostly because it isn't just a 2 story building. It interacts with the street nicely and is easy to get to. In order for Fashion Square to survive it needs to be linked up with downtown proper via Lymmo. I know Fashion Square is only about 3 miles from downtown, and I've walked a lot farther for less, it isn't the most pleasant walk. If we hook this area up to Lymmo we can add some residential units to the area, and I think it would make downtown more attractive to Baldwin Park, and vice versa. Fashion Square also needs to interact with the street better.
  10. As a resident of the neighborhood I have that fear as well. Hopefully someone can clarify this for me. The FUMCO building is being torn down so a new FUMCO building can be created to offset the loss of land bounded by Magnolia & Rosalind on the east & west, and South to the north, correct? They aren't tearing this down because the PAC will be there are they?
  11. A city needs roads, I don't think anyone will deny that. But study after study all come back saying the more roads we build, the more traffic we will have.

I have a feeling their motive is to start the theatre up, build somewhat of a base and sell to a major chain.

    The Plaza

I agree. I walked by tonight with the intent of seeing a movie, but it seemed most of their showings were movies that were out in March. I will second what another poster said about showtimes on the website not matching up with the showtimes at the actual theatre. The other downside was there was no automatic kiosk. Unless the ATM's also serve as kiosks.
  14. Are the resturants doing well. They seem to be.

Is there a website that has showtimes?
  16. I'm befuddled on why Paramore struggles. * It has an incredible location. Right by 408 & I-4, walk to downtown. * Incredibly low property values * Further away from the executive airport so theoretically you could build a little higher * tax incentives I'm surprised no developer has bought up pieces of land.
  17. The thing about MetroWest is that it is all gated communities. While it is a nice area to go for a walk, there are no shops, resturants or anything else along the way except on Kirkman or Hiawassee you get the occasional strip mall. Might be one of the reasons I moved downtown too. I think Lake Nona is going to be a bit better planned out. More parks, a town center, better walking and riding trails, more street access from your door.

    I'm digging the poster.

    The Plaza

Great pic, but I'm more impressed with the foot traffic. I'll probably check out Up, & Bruno at this theatre. It will be great to have a theatre I can walk over to. Anyone need a movie buddy?

    The Plaza

Walked through the Plaza this evening to see the changes that were made to NYPD Pizza. While walking through I noticed frames that can hold movie posters put up. I took some pics and will see if I can post them. I just wish they were opening in time for Wolverine & Star Trek.

Anyone know when the cinema is opening. I need to start planning my summer movies.

    Amway Center

They could sell advertising space on it. Or it could advertise upcoming events.
  23. The bowls have contracts with the city and UCF or the county would have to compete for them. On the otherhand it is hard to deny how much money a state of the art facility by the OCCC would bring in. If it was built we could all but gurantee a spot in the BCS & Final 4 rotation. If only we didn't have 2 governments to fight with each other & mass transit linking the nightlife of downtown with the hotels of the attractions.
