  1. I see a clearing along the rail lines in what I would consider to be the center of that map ... but when I zoom in, that clearing turns out to be a cemetery. Am I just misreading your statement? Nevermind, I see it now. Gotcha. Just north of the cemetery -- assuming north is "up," that is.
  2. Where is Emporis on this project? Edit: yeah, until 20 minutes ago I had no idea this project was going on. That's a beautiful tower, though. I'm quite jealous.
  3. Cotuit, those photos are fantastic, thanks for the link.
  4. Well, no, not really. I know a quarter of a mile isn't all that much when talking about most things, but a skybridge? Picture it. It has to reach from Jefferson Blvd across Post Rd, across that gigantic surface lot, and (I assume) all the way to the terminal. I drove home by Post Rd. last night. Because I needed gas. And I'll admit, also because I had this project in mind. That's gonna be an interesting feature. Noticeable. And yes, quite long.
  5. I dunno, but here's a long one. I assume this is approximately what Post Road is going to look like soon: And another of the same: That one can be found in Davenport, Iowa, which looks like a nice little city. But we can only hope that we don't end up with one that looks like this:
  6. Today's newspaper, front page of the West Bay section. The people-mover idea has been abandoned in favor of a quarter-mile skybridge with moving sidewalks spanning the distance between the train station and the airport, and also adding another $25m to the price tag (which the state believes will pay for itself in maintenance costs in the long term).
  7. I'm going to love the new Westin tower. As it is now, the Westin is just a tall building, although a nice one IMO. But with the addition, I think the Westin is going to gain a lot of character. I love the orientation of the new building. That'll be a nice touch. It's going to look as if it's forever turning its gaze towards Downcity ...
  8. It's probably unnecessary now that we'll have the IWay bridge, but this picture makes me think that we should have lit the Point St. Bridge a long time ago. Would've been a nice touch. Speaking of the IWay bridge, I can't wait to see that go up. I can see it every day, where it's being built off Quonset Point. I keep meaning to go find somewhere along the coast where I can break out my binoculars and get a really good look at that thing ... And look how good the skyline looks in this picture, with the Textron bldg. lit just enough to make its presence felt:
  9. Well that's embarrassing. They showed up in the post preview, though!! Oh well. Anyway, as I was saying, you can find pictures of the Textron Bldg here and 50 Kennedy Plaza here. That help? This isn't too bad: It would be better than nothing. And it's the right color.
  10. Ignorant!!! Kidding, of course. The Textron building is the one on the right. Or, if this helps: And you can find more pictures of it here. As for "the building in the middle of the 'big 3,'" I assume you mean 50 Kennedy Plaza. That would be this building: Is that the one you mean? As for Textron, I was thinking about it today, and y'know, I decided I'd even be happy even if they would just put their name in lit block letters at the top corners of the building. It doesn't take much: just let the world know that you're there ...
  11. Perhaps. I just don't want us to end up looking something like this: That's Singapore, where the maximum allowable height is 280 meters (919 feet). Consequently, they have 3 buildings that stand exactly that tall. And, predictably, it looks just a wee bit weird -- especially since those 3 buildings are so prominent compared to the other buildings in the city. Which is exactly the situation we would have here (on a much smaller scale).
  12. Why does the Textron bldg. not have any kind of lighting scheme? Are they not proud of themselves, or what?
  13. Yes, I know about the spire. Does nothing for me.
  14. OK, getting away from the 2000 footers that they're building in Dubai, as a point of aesthetics I'd like to see OTW be about 40 feet taller than the project is set for right now. Or even 30 feet. It's not the height of the building per se that concerns me. It's the relative size next to its two 400+ foot neighbors. The B of A building stands 428 feet tall (but looks a little smaller because of the tapering top) and the former Hospital Trust building (One Financial Plaza, I think it's called now) stands 408 feet tall. With OTW slated to stand 433 feet, I just keep getting the horrible feeling that Providence is about to get a buzz cut look on a gigantic scale. I'd like a little differentiation on this new project. But I also want the developers to stay in proportion to the city as it exists now. Not too big. Just a little bigger than they're planning right now. 30 feet, maybe 40 feet tops.
