"It's outside the box, but lots of times we get criticized by people that we don't think outside the box like other cities. I think this project will set that example," EBR Transportation Director Fred Raiford said. Aside from the planned signal upgrades and improvements for pedestrians, project plans are calling for an entirely new road to be constructed in two phases. Raiford says it's called a backage road. "It's gonna be a road that's gonna be between the shopping area and the parking lot and the main businesses out on College," During phase 1 of the project, a road will be built through the Hobby Lobby parking lot behind Chick-Fil-A and other establishments to connect Bennington and Concord avenues. "Phase 2 will tie in from College and go through the Walmart [parking lot] and go all the way up to Balis," According to Raiford, the goal is to build these roads before major lane restrictions take place on I-10 in 2025. The additional side streets will hopefully alleviate some of the congestion from the main road.
  3. Think the new Baton Rouge Hockey team is trying to appeal to the entire state of Louisiana. But many are disappointed with the new name ZYDECO. That genre of music is more in SW LA (Lafayette; Lake Charles) . And the "Blues" name has already been taken by St.Louis. I agree the RED STICKS would have been the best.... The Zydeco? New Orleans-based developer Key Real Estate bought the former Baton Rouge Bank building facing North Street earlier this year and has been granted approval to demolish the building, which has been vacant for years, according to Casey Tate, assistant executive director of the Downtown Development District. There’s currently no timeline set for the project, which is still being designed. The developers plan to build at least 200 residential units and the apartment building will face North Boulevard, Tate says “This project will bring more infill residential to downtown,” Tate says. “The downtown market is so high right now. Most complexes are at capacity or are nearly fully leased.” Downtown has seen a wealth of residential development in the area in the past decade. Nearly 1,000 apartment units were added to the market from 2010 to 2019, according to DDD’s developer tool kit. DDD is working to update the tool kit this summer with updated apartment figures for downtown.

  13. Thanks for y'all's replies! LOL Cajun!! Quick wit! Yeah Dan326 if your not too far from the Amite River Basin you may see a small gator. As kids we would go to back park into Lively Bayou. Fairly narrow in many places you could practically jump across; but not near the drainage pipes were it was a pool of water. Will never forget when we saw a HUGE snake with a fish in his mouth!

This has me almost wanting to start a waterway thread ..plenty to choose from ...Fountain Bayou/ Elbow Bayou ; Ward Creek Dawson Creek/ Bayou Duplantier; .........Claycut Bayou Jones Creek / Lively Bayou (merge near Old Hammond Hwy ); connected to Honeycutt Bayou that goes under Millerville/O'Neal ; I-12; Oschner to Amite River... Hurricane Creek in NBR ; Cypress Bayou at the Zoo...etc LSU WON the Baton Rouge Region in baseball today! ....ESPN2 & ESPN+ have been showing some nice aerials of Downtown between innings!   15. Yep Dan326 more n more common story ...lady around the block just had large tree removed due to lightning strike. We are wondering if our hot water heater up in the attic took an indirect lightning strike; the "Anode" (long rod) was basically melted and water was a sulfur- egg - like smell to the water. Clay Cut Bayou ..... approx. 10 mile long waterway that runs West-to- East from the Amite River(where it's fairly wide) to old near Bluebonnet Road as a small cement canal. Its basically a glorified ditch near the end of it's trek here at the small bridge @ Telesmar Ave. (just West of Siegen Lane)

Avery Bell, Corey McCoy, Jared Johnson, and Tre’Jan Vinson, fraternity brothers and members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity are the owners of KOK Wings & Things, a restaurant specializing in chicken wings and loaded fries. They also sell a variety of appetizers, fish, and shrimp. KOK is a acronym for Kitchen On Klinton. The owners began their restaurant journey on Clinton street. The use a stylistic “K” as an homage to Kappa Alpha Psi. The Baton Rouge location is the third location for KOK Wings & Things. They also have locations in Lafayette and New Iberia. Before entering the restaurant, you will see a bright orange and red color scheme and a large patio with ample seating. As soon as you walk inside of the restaurant, the staff shouts “Welcome to KOK”. There is a full bar and a to-go waiting area. We spoke with two of the owners Corey McCoy and Tre’Jan Vinson who shared their excitement for the new location as well as their appreciation for their warm reception in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge still losing residents as suburbs keep growing https://www.businessreport.com/business/census-city-of-baton-rouge-loses-residents-while-suburbs-grow The city of Baton Rouge is losing population at a rapid rate while East Baton Rouge Parish’s suburban cities—Zachary and Central— and its two most populated neighboring parishes—Livingston and Ascension—are gaining residents. That’s according to figures made available today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Per 2022 estimates, the city of Baton Rouge was down more than 5,000 residents from 2020 and down 2,623 residents from 2021. Zachary and Central, both within the parish, saw their populations increase. Gonzales and Donaldsonville, both in Ascension Parish, also saw population increases, while the populations of both Denham Springs and Port Allen remained relatively flat. Parishwide, East Baton Rouge lost more than 3,100 residents from 2021 and more than 5,300 residents from 2020. Ascension and Livingston parishes both saw their populations increase. Ascension Parish gained nearly 2,000 residents from 2021 and nearly 3,500 from 2020. Meanwhile, Livingston Parish gained nearly 2,200 residents from 2021 and more than 5,600 from 2020. Andrew Fitzgerald, with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, says the numbers playing out locally are part of a larger national trend. “What we’re seeing is that metro areas are growing but the urban core is losing residents while the suburban areas are exploding,” he says. Construction and manufacturing jobs are growing around Geismar, drawing workers and their families to Ascension Parish, he says, while property values are attracting residents to move to Livingston Parish. Other population changes noted in the data include births-over-deaths, which was +831 from 2021 to 2022 in East Baton Rouge Parish. While international net migration was +1,588 for the parish, domestic net migration was -5,589 from 2021 and -10,232 from 2020. As a whole, Louisiana also saw a dramatic out-migration of residents—with more than 80,000 exiting the state since 2020.
