  1. I had been wondering what was happening with this. I do know that Sette is in the process of taking over the space he was considering that fronts Main St. I ate there on Tuesday and confirmed with our server that the patio is currently closed for the expansion and it should be done in about 90 days. Good luck to Malcom in Jackson Ward. It sounds like there could still be changes before it finally opens. http://www.richmond.com/food-drink/article_817beef0-9018-11e2-bd8f-0019bb30f31a.html
  2. My partner and I dined at Dutch and Company last night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We ran into one of our regular servers from Aziza's the other day who told us she was now working also at Dutch and Co and said we should come in. We did the prix fixe menu (28 bucks for 3 courses). We felt it was a great value and plenty of food. I can't remember what my partner had, but I had the Rillette, hanger steak, and a chocolate desert kind of like a small dark chocolate dense brownie with hints of citrus and salt. It was all very good. I would think if you like Roosevelt, you will like this as well.
  3. I haven't seen it up that close, but it has definitely been up lately. I drive over The James everyday on the Powhite bridge and the other day the water was over all of the rocks. I have wanted to walk down closer, but I've been working and haven't had a chance. I did walk down Riverside Dr the other day and it did look pretty rough from up above. I was living at Rocketts Landing, but we moved into a house in Westover Hills at the end of November. We are still pretty close to the River, just a few streets from the Nickel Bridge.

  5. There are 2 signs posted for the retail in this building. On the left corner, Shockoe Valley Market will be opening and I assume closing their store on Main St closer to 18th St. The other spot is more in the center and is a salon called Salon Belissa, I believe.
  6. More info on the potential office tower at The Locks posted tonight on Times-Dispatch http://www.timesdispatch.com/business/economy/biz-buzz-new-office-tower-could-be-built-downtown/article_6e610e01-afa5-587a-a381-ba0478f8bd7b.html
  7. So the sandwich board I saw was for this and I guess they have been there a while. I'll have to check it out sometime.
  8. There is significant progress going on with the other 2 buildings. The White Byrd building has been primed and new windows have been installed for the atrium. I am unsure if they are opening up the canal on that side, but they have cleared out some of the brush and installed stairs, though it may be temporary during construction. I have been wondering if they were going to add balconies to the building since it sits right on the canal. It seems like a missed opportunity if they don't. There was also a sandwich board for a cafe in the Troutman Sanders / Riverside development. I could not tell if it was in the Blackfinn space or if this was something new or old. I hadn't noticed it before, bit I don't remember the name.
  9. Just snapped a few pics of the Locks development along the canal walk the other day. It can't be said enough, what a huge improvement this is and what a difference it will make for downtown.
  10. I live in 210 Rock and the building BrownGreer is moving into is attached and fronts Route 5, but has never been renovated. The Cedar Works apartments are across Rocketts Way fronting Route 5. I am super excited to hear of this development. It will do a lot to improve the look of the development along Route 5. I do find it funny that parking was a plus for them since parking is a problem here too. With the restaurants, businesses, and residents it can get pretty full. It will be nice to see this coming together soon.
  11. Does anyone know what is going on at The Rocketts View Apartments at the end of Main St near Poe's Pub? They have removed the surface parking and dug a pretty large hole about 10 feet deep and set back from the street. I couldn't find anything online. Perhaps it's just more parking, but seems more involved.
  12. I guess should have done a search earlier. I didn't realize it was just a temporary thing
  13. Does anyone know if the new 10,000 Villages that opened on 14th St has already closed? I drive by there almost everyday and I know they were open for a while, but the last week I haven't seen any activity and the stores looks kind of empty from what I can tell. It just seems strange since it seems like it only just opened.
  14. So, I found my answer. Apparently, this will be a sports bar type place. http://www.facebook.com/#!/MajorWillys
  15. I may have missed this, but does anyone know what is opening in the building next to FishBowl by Dock Street? I have seen some work there recently and driving by I saw a coming soon sign. I wasn't able to stop to check it out. I was told there used to be sports bar there, but I think it s been vacant since I moved here last December. I was told that BW3's took all their business. Anyway, it will be nice to see the space filled. It makes me wonder why the Southern Railway Deli space has vacant for so long...especially with the all the activity in that area recently.
  16. I can vouch for Parkside Cafe. I went there a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday with my partner and we had a very nice lunch with mimosas. I had the pork tacos which were good...(I like Alamo BBQ better). My partner had an Omelette special that he said was quite tasty. The service was great and the decor is charming. We had a nice experience and I would definitely return.
  17. While we are on the topic of goings on in that general area. Does anyone know the status of the planned Haxall Brewery on 21st? I have checked there facebook page and there has been no new information in quite some time. I thought at one point, they wanted to open by the end of May. I had hoped this would happen. Anyone have any info?
  18. I have been wondering the same thing for months. Obviously, something is happening. I have tried to find information online a few times and come up empty.
  19. I live at Rocketts Landing and we got news recently of another restaurant opening soon. This has been talked about for some time, but is now becoming reality....Below is the email residents received regarding the new spot. "We are very pleased to announce that we have executed a lease for the last available commercial space in 210 Rock to M Bistro. M Bistro is the concept of Chef Michael Hall, who was the Executive Chef at the Bull & Bear Club. M Bistro will be open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Tuesday-Saturday, as well as dinner on Sundays. Look for a soft opening in July or August. The food will be Modern American Cuisine. We will forward a menu when it becomes available. Thank You, Jason"
  20. So, what happened?? Obviously, the Braves ended up leaving and the Diamond is still around. I live in Rocketts Landing and walked past the Fulton Gas Works this last weekend and got interested to know more and if there were development plans. That was when I saw that a stadium had been proposed and a museum...neither which ever happened. It is interesting to read all this history and to see that we have a new mayor since all this occurred. I have only lived in Richmond since December and am finding more and more how complicated its development history is.
  21. Yes, that is what I have seen. Thanks for the welcome. I have been living here since December, but been reading the forum since about September. It has been so helpful and thanks to everyone for all the information!!
  22. I saw that a new ABC is opening in the new lofts at 21st and Main (Engine Company). They have a sign above the ground floor space on the corner. As an area resident, I am pleased since there is not one that close. I also saw that there is some kind of work going on in the building close to 25th and Main going up to Church Hill on the right. It is next to The Reserve. New spaces for windows are being created on the 2nd floor which makes me think there will be apartments. I had seen at some point, where someone was looking to open a restaurant with apartments above in that area. I thought it was the people from Garnet's. I wonder if this is related to that??
