    Publix

All of the Kroger's have been updated in Murfreesboro. I especially like the fact they have a Natural Foods section. Publix seems to be on the natural bandwagon, too. I spoke to a manager at one of the local Kroger stores and the Harris Teeter has been cancelled on Rutherford due to bacteria being found on the land. I believe otherwise $$$$$.
  2. Groundbreaking for the hotel is Dec. 13th.
  3. Nine more tenants have been announced for the Avenues. They include: Brighton, Coldwater Creek, Francesca
  4. I agree. The city keeps expanding the city limits and throwing up houses and townhomes when the roads are inadequate for even the current population. Downtown has been frozen since 1992 when the 15 story Regions Bank Tower was completed. I would like to see something happen downtown such as infill projects including restaurants and an entertainmant district (Either Main, Vine, or Spring Street would be perfect for this). I think it's time Murfreesboro grows up gets some new towers. A few twenty or thirty story towers would be just enough to give it a real skyline without causing too much controversy. I really don't know what the height restrictions are for downtown, but I do know it is 150 ft. for anything in the Gateway district.
  5. I've had that dream too, as well as Minneapolis/St. Paul. There is a loop under construction if you haven't heard. It is the Southwest loop road and it will be better than a limited access highway, it will be a controlled access highway with separated grading and interchanges over SR 840, Franklin Road, New Salem Higway, South Church Street, Manchester Highway, and finally terminating at John Bragg Highway. However, the project, in its entirety, will take seven years (2013). I believe once the Rutherford Boulevard and Church Street over pass and interchange are completed as well as the direct route to MTSU from the New Salem exit, it will make life so much easier for students. Until then, the traffic woes continue. http://www.murfreesboropost.com/news.php?viewStory=523
  6. I like the green, but the dog part is kind of corny. The buses will be useful and I know my granny will appreciate riding to the mall and the grocery store when I can't pick her up during school.
  7. I think one thing the city is doing right is restricting the tall signs and clutter around the interstate to fifty feet and eliminating them all together around other areas. Yes the signs sell the businesses and yes it lets the motorist know they are entering an area of commercial prosperity, but they are distracting and clumsy looking. Take a look at Broad Street, it is a mess. The city wants to have all ground signs no taller than eight feet similar to what Brentwood, Franklin, and Hendersonville already have.
  8. Murfreesboro is sprawling at an incredible rate. The city limits currently span 55 miles and growing. Most of the attention on Murfreesboro, however, has been paid to this type of growth, sprawl. I'm interested in what you think Murfreesboro could do to improve it's infrastructure, roadways, downtown, or anything a city should consider when creating positive, connective, innovative, urban development.
  9. You're cuttin up. I thought you were talking about something bad. Thnx for the pictures.
  10. The first project is the four star Embassy Suites hotel and conference center. However, the conference center will be 80,000 sq. ft. of space. The second project is the expansion of the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs. More information about the museum may be found here: http://www.rutherfordchamber.org/visitor.c...&sub_cat=14
  11. It was listed as one of the new medias in the Murfreesboro Media Thread. IMO, it is better than the other papers at really focusing on not only what's happening here, but also what people who actually live here think about it. It also avoids sprawl boosterism and promoting some schools over others. I'd say it's Murfreesboro's equivalent to The City Paper. Other new media includes the Murfreesboro Pulse and Channel 19.
  12. Thanks for the artical tiger. I believe that the library should remain downtown. Murfreesboro has had this problem of underbuilding in the past to try save money. I go to the library downtown and I can tell you it's more than dated. I think they should expand the library into the wasteful attempt at greenspace in front of the Am South Bank. I do like the idea of having branches in the area, but 8 possibly in the next fourteen years aint gonna get it. The way Lavergne and Smyrna are growing they each need two (and yes I'm aware Lavergne has its own library system). Murfreesboro needs about ten right now. I'd spread em out like this, one near Siegel, one near Blackman, one off Florence near Old Nashville Highway, one near campus off Halls Hill Pike, one on Wilkinson Pike/Gateway Area, one in the Barfield Area, one off Manchester Highway, one off New Salem/Middle Tennessee Boulevard exit, one off the future Cherry Lane exit, and ofcourse the main library to be tripled in size downtown.
  13. This is located as the name implies in the southwest portion of the city. This loop road will funtion as a bypass for traffic coming from the south side of Murfreesboro in order to avoid going through the city to get to SR-840 or I-24. The first segment will be from the Highway 96 (Beesley Road) to South Church Street. The next leg will connect South Church street to the Joe B. Jackson Parkway interchange. The final and third leg will connect from Manchester Highway to John Bragg Highway (Woodbury Highway). The city has adopted new standards which will more than likely prevent mistakes in the past (i.e. going ahead and making the road five lanes instead of three, having overpasses over major arterials instead of creating time consuming intersections, building bridges over railroad crossings instead of none...you get the idea). This road will IMO cause more development and craziness as far as traffic is concerned, but still worth the effort in order to relieve us for now. I think Murfreesboro would be a much different place had the city leaders of the past went ahead with the original plan for starting with five interchanges on I-24 instead of just two.
  14. The Gateway district spans from exit 76 all the way to Broad Street bordering Old Nashville Highway from Thompson lane & Broad (North) to Medical Center Parkway & Broad (South). Additional information may be found here: http://www.murfreesborotn.gov/business/gat...teway_index.htm The Avenue project will be located directly across from the Embassy Suites Hotel right off exit 76. It is highly visible from I-24 as several buildings have been erected. I'd say at this rate it could actually be the summer of next year when this thing opens. Middle Tennesee Medical Center will be located on the corner lot between Medical Center Parkway and Wilkinson Pike. The sign for the hospital has been there about four years and nothing has been built. I think the hospital is still waiting on the State's written consent.
  15. This is old news, I'm ready for this thing to open up already.
  16. You all will be glad to know one of the reasons was because the city council stood up and told the architects that the roof had to go. So they are going to redo the roof and add a few more special touches.
  17. This sounds great. I knew the mall would be undergoing a complete renovation. I bet one of the eateries will be a Ruby Tuesdsay, we only have one right now. I also hope the mall will have new markers/signage so it creates a sense of place. This is Stones River Mall and I'm glad they've decided to upgrade this classy place.
  18. Yes, they're working from back to front. Eventually the whole mall will be renovated inside and out and become an open air style mall similar to the Avenues.
  19. Nashville, Hartsville, and Lynchburg have consolidated governments in Tennessee.
  20. This artical is a little dated but I am assuming this is the project that was announced along with the Avenues Mall. The development will consist of retail, condominiums, townhomes, banks, and walking trails. I remember the city council discussing this last year and they said that the development will be huge. In fact, two major bridges will have to be constructed for accessibility, one over Brinkley Road, and the other over Manson Pike. Fortress Boulevard will also be widened to five lanes. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/stori.../04/story1.html
  21. I think it's great too, I hope we get some things that aren't already here though like Costco or an oraganic supermarket, those two things, alone, are the reason I make the commute to Cool Springs once a week.
  22. Home Depot and Camino Real have already confirmed locations in the Barfield area, now developers want to open a retail center in 2009. http://albuquerque.bizjournals.com/albuque...52000%5E1346644
