  1. Sorry for steering off topic; I just couldn't remember what came of that 3rd Wal-Mart. I personally don't see the need, but obvioulsy Wal-Mart has figured out how to turn a profit without my little insight!
  2. I can't remember, but did the 3rd Wal Mart for Mboro ever get approved?
  3. Yeah, a quick drive through any of the middle Tennesse communities that are not in Williamson county give you a new appreciation for underground utilities. They make a huge difference in the appearence of an area.
  4. How is medical center parkway supposed to alleviate traffic? Please explain to me how that works and I'll start using it! I was down there on Saturday and it was horrible! Although I think it was worse this past weekend because of the tax free shopping. Stones River Mall was a zoo!
  5. Can we have a sub forum under Murfreesboro dedicated to La Vergne???? No, I'm just kidding!
  6. Since UP doesn't allow full articles to be posted and this article will be deleted as soon as metro or rural sees it, can you post a link?
  7. just think how much further down the toilet Georgia would be if Barnes were still govenor. That's right, he was a terrible govenor!
  8. We could convert the coffee house into the "surrounding counties." Although I'd have to say, if we did this, what in the world are they doing in the Atlanta forum?
  9. I guess I'll be in dissent. I don't like having to go to all the seperate forums. I liked it when Tennessee was all one forum. That said, I think there are more 'Murfreesboro' posters on here than 'East Tennessee' posters. If the number of folks interested dictates change, then bring it on!
  10. I like the design, but I also haven't seen any of the other conferences centers that you all say look exactly like this.
  11. yeah, who would want to live in Yankee country!
  12. Actually, there was a post somewhere on here awhile back that made it appear that Hong Kong will pass Memphis in Air Cargo by next year. Anyone have that link? I know UPS is based in Atlanta, so why do their air packages go out of Louisville? I guess that's probably a better central location; just not sure of the logic. It seems like there are a lot of DHL planes flying out of BNA. Is that just coincidence or do they have a significant presence here?
  13. yeah, the FedEx ground hub is on the north side of town off briley pkwy. I don't know if "HQ" is official, since it's simply a division of fedex. Just curious, how much bigger is FedEx than UPS? You never hear about all the cargo out of ATL from UPS. Of course, that could be that ATL has many legs to stand on, not just cargo.
  14. Titanhog, you say Memphis MSA has 1.26 mil compared to Nashville MSA's 1.34 mil. Where did you get that information? Emporis shows Nashville at 1.485 mil and Memphis at 1.260 mil. That's the same for Memphis with Nashville significantly higher (225,000 more than Memphis MSA). Emporis seems a little more accurate I think at present, BNA is better primed for future passenger growth simply based on the airport expansions and growth in this area. Now, I might not have said the same thing about BNA in 1997 after AA left, so who knows what the future holds. But right now, things look good! As for cargo, there's no way Nashville will ever come close to Memphis' numbers unless an earthquake destroys Memphis and FedEx moves to Nashville. Do you Memphis folks know that FedEx ground is based here? I think they employ about 200,000 people!
  15. People talk aboutthe age of BNA, but isn't 20 years kinda new for an airport? I mean, how old is MEM, and how about the older parts of ATL?
  16. The check in gates in Nashville are exactly like those in Atlanta. They are right as you walk in the door. Depending on which door you walk in, you might be right in front of the Continental, Northwest, Delta, or Southwest ticket booths. The ticket booths used to be further back towards the wall, but that changed recently, I guess because of security? I am guessing the whole fromt will be re-done because surely they will have to have a central location for the security check point. My father in law says Delta is giving up one of their gates at BNA, which he says doesn't make sense because Delta's flights in and out of here have picked up recently. Maybe rent was jacked up to 'make room' for jet blue? He doesn't know anything about Delta flying the 757's here, but they used to and were able to fill them up. He see's it as a good probability. Delta and several other airlines rent one of the end gates for use on their smaller jets and props. Delta currently flies MD-88's and CRJ's out of BNA.
  17. 120 Total? Does that seem of concern to anyone but me? I thought by now, with other condos selling out within hours, that Sig would at least be 50% - 75% reserved.
  18. Very interesting article RJ. I always find it interesting we people say new developments don't cater to the poor. My wife said something along the same lines yesterday. The problem with supposedly catering to the poor is that if you are a business, you have to turn a profit which means you have to charge more than you pay for a product. The same runs true for non-profits. I can understand if someone says a Jos A Bank does not cater to the poor wheras a wal-mart does, but does anyone really think murfreesboro is lacking wal-marts? The upscale developements bring in more tax dollars. Someone buying a $400 suit will pay $40 in taxes, wheras someone buying a $10 shirt at wal-mart pays $1 in taxes. I think Murfreesboro is headed toward having a perfect mixture of both.
  19. Isn't Medical Center Parkway at exit 74 on I-24? That's only 25 miles from Downtown Nashville, 10 miles from the Davidson/Rutherford line, and 15 miles from the beloved HHM and their Best Buy.
  20. I thought Tony G was from Atlanta, or is that just the Norvare group?
  21. nashvol, you could be right about that, but I would suspect that if this town once had the largest tower in the southeast in the 1950's, that the people who remember those days would love to get them back. I can vouch for one who would love to see a 70 story tower. I don't want to live downtown, but I wish they would put meeting space for lease on the top floor. What a great place for a business meeting!!!
  22. I'm not interested in commuter rail so much because of the enviromental considerations, but because of the cost of gas, maintenence, miles, etc... and like dave said, reduced stress (I know exactly when the train leaves and exactly when it arrives regardless of traffic). Marketing the environmental aspects probably won't work in this area because we aren't surrounded by the smog and congestion problems on the level of an L.A, Chicago, or Atlanta. But the price is going to be the big issue. Remember, most of us will still have to have our cars to drive to the train station. Then on top of that, the cost of the ticket will play in, and I think if you have to pay for transfers, that will kill the whole deal. I work in East Nashville, and certainly don't think I would be willing to walk 2 miles in a suit in the hot summer sun (uphill both ways of course!) just to ride the train. I think anything over $3 for a round trip daily ticket will kill this project very quickly.
