  1. good news... the panel voted 6-1. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/cu...-home-headlines here is a snippit from the article: "The tourist-development tax was meant to support our industry -- tourism," Rosen said in a lengthy speech at the council's meeting at the Orange County Convention Center. He said his own financial health and thousands of jobs are at stake. At the end, Rosen pushed a plan that would steer all added resort-tax revenue into tourism marketing for as many as five years, with no money going to the projects in that time unless an 80 percent occupancy level is reached at area hotels. Current occupancy rates hover around 70 percent. After that, the projects could share in added tax revenues, he said. Rosen blamed political opposition to his plan on the County Commission, which he said has been "intimidated and bullied" by the Orlando Sentinel into opposing it. But no one backed Rosen's proposal, and it died for lack of support. ------------------------------------------- i love his last statement i posted. that is the definition of irony.
  2. i am really starting to get ticked off. first rosen is ok with using half the extra penny for public venues, now it seems like he changed his mind. all this from a man that is unelected. unbelievable. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/or...iness-headlines
  3. i dont even want to imagine the fighting between orange county and orlando for conventions if there was significant convention space downtown.
  4. now what in GOD's name is the faa regulating the height to only 450 feet in that side of town? there should theoretically be not much of a limit there. unless, blue rose only asked for 450 feet. should i assume that if blue rose asked for 650, 700, or even 1000 feet that the faa would have approved it up to the height asked for?
  5. im not making a point about tourism traffic. im making a point about what one user said about the arena needing to be in the center of the metro area to retain attendence figures. i simply used detroit to prove that arenas dont necessarily have to be that way. as far as traffic..... there are underused roads with immediate freeway access all over the south end of I-drive. an example is universal blvd. isnt kirkman road going to get extended into that area as well? all this within a short distance to the beeline which connects to I-4. in reality, nobody would even have to drive on I-drive. but, i still would rather it put in downtown.
  6. i personally want the arena in downtown too. however, to play devils advocate here, look at the detroit pistons playing in auburn hills which is on the north end of the metro area. they didnt seem to have attendence problems after the move. i just hope we the city chooses a better sponser for the facility. one that doesnt have a cheesy name. the DARDEN CENTER sounds good to me. heck..... maybe they could put a bahama breeze in it.

    back to plaza discussion.

i understand your point in that the city has no drive to do the study. but one last point, even if big planes (biggest is a 737 in recent times) land at orlando executive...... they will not go anywhere over downtown. we established that small planes sometimes jump in front of jets in the landing pattern by cutting over downtown. at the same time, we established that jets cannot do this manuever........ so your point about a big jet hitting a building is moot. yes, i do think there should be a sticky on this.

ok, but we are not talking about 747-400s from orlando executive airport, the buildings that the faa deems unsafe is when they are only 450 ft, the downtown area is off the "direct" flight path, and most importantly..... downtown are is much further away than the 1000 ft mountain. that being said...... even when considering physics (which is debatable), there are many many more risks in st maarten and it goes off without a hitch every day. secondly, if a passenger jet hits a mountain..... hundreds die. if the average plane from orlando exec hits a building.... not many die if at all on the ground since they are tiny planes (maybe 1-6 in the plane die). the worst case scenario would be a 737 business jet hitting downtown, but that would never happen because the faa would never let them do the little cutting in the landing line maneuver. the jet will never come close to downtown.

my god, the downtown skyline is childsplay compared to what ive seen when i lived in st maarten. we had 747-400s taking off in the direction of a 1000-1200 ft mountain (real vertical height since its an island). this mountain was directly in the flight path and less than a mile from the end of the runway (which was a rather short as well). the planes all had to pull up extremely fast and to the right. no accidents ever. depending on the wind pattern, sometimes they came in on an approach the same way, although ive only seen them do it a few times. now, if they can handle this on st maarten...... im sure the little general aviation aircraft can handle some 800 footers not even in the official flight path and way more than a mile away.

actually, the flight line is even further away from downtown than depicted in your pic. i believe you used the taxiway for your white line. the runway is further south.

SMOG..... is that what i think it is......... i apologize....... but seeing a pic of it is breath taking.
  13. the small fence was up for a while...... but nothing beyond that. they actually decided to make the fence useful before it falls apart from natural wear and tear....... THEY ARE ACTUALLY CLEARING TREES!!!!!!!!!!
  14. well, its official. after driving by the site today........ the land clearing for dellagio has begun.
  15. dont forget orlando sage resort. what is elegante? not many renderings other than a building that looks like it was squashed by an elephant.
  16. those are not on big sand lake. they are on spring lake. spring lake only connects to sandlake through a drainage tunnel under sand lake road.
  17. ive got a good view across big sand lake from my house. luckily, the land clearing for wal mart does not extend anywhere near the lake nor am i going to have to stare at an ugly box when it eventually gets built. there is more land there than it looks. since ive pinpointed sage and eden springs with the help of others on this forum...... does anybody know anything planned for all that lakefront land north of sand lake residences, behind "the big box", and east of vizcaya? more condos? the ones vizcaya built sold like hotcakes.
  18. the area on turkey lake road where eden springs is going to be built is being cleared at a lightning pace. its almost ready for ground work.
  19. i dont think you are thinking about the same hyatt. i am not talking about the hyatt grand cypress (which is beautiful and huge). the article was refering to the hyatt hotel that has been closed down for quite some time collecting dust. this hotel is set up with 1-2 story buildings that are spread apart. it would be an easier undertaking to demolish them than the current demolishing of the delta resort. when driving westbound on I-4 near the 192 interchange, you will see it on your left hand side or eastbound on your right hand side. it is right up against I-4. the article said "replacing" with a 3600 room high rise resort.
  20. the orlando sentinel today mentions a 3,600 room high rise resort replacing the hyatt hotel in the disney/kissimmee area near I-4. no more details were given. any of you have any more info?
  21. i cant help but associate some of the renderings with some of walt disneys visions for what EPCOT was supposed to be. EXPERIMENTAL PROTOTYPE COMMUNITY OF TOMMORROW....... with the radial design layout of the cities.
  22. how tall will the revised 750 room tower be? do you have a rendering of the 750 room tower? all i seem to be able to find is the old 1000 room tower rendering.
