  1. Bull St. project future is shaping up. It is soon to be decided what to do with the largest piece of undeveloped land in the city. I would love to see a neo-urban neighborhood developed with affordable housing/ townhomes, parks, trails, and bike paths, and even a fresh fruit market or two. This could really be a development that could really set the city apart. What would you like to see? Do not post copyrighted material Bull St.
  2. This project is gonna be awesome! I don't think the city will ever be quite the same after this.
  3. It seems Lexington is growing more and more independent of Columbia Target has announced that it will develop in a new Lexington shopping center. Another thing I didn't realize is how much Lexington has grown. In the article it stated Lexington's population at 16,000 which I'm sure that actual number now is closer to 20,000. If the heart institute goes up soon Lexington County residents won't have to leave and cross over into "forsaken" Richland County for anything. I would say that's a good thing but my family lives in Lexington County now , go fig?! Target is just the start in Lexington The arrival of Target promises to spark a new wave of nationally known merchants coming to Lexington. Home Depot seems likely to pick a site on the north edge of Lexington, town officials say. And a complex with stores, homes, offices, a movie theater and hotel could be in the works near I-20 and Augusta Road. source Target pursuing store near Lexington Target is taking aim at Lexington. The Minneapolis-based discount retailer is eyeing a new store along U.S. 378, just outside the town of Lexington, according to developers and town officials. source
  4. It seems the campus will take a retro design following in the same footsteps as the horseshoe. Phase one of the campus (Horizon Center block, Public Health block, and Biomedical block) is expected to be complete in 2007. Just some facts and figures about the Campus: CENTERS ALREADY APPROVED Program Building Regenerative Medicine (with MUSC, Clemson) Biomedical Brain Imaging (with MUSC, Clemson) Biomedical Translational Cancer Therapeutics (with MUSC, Clemson) Public Health Hydrogen Fuel Cells Horizon PROPOSED CENTERS Molecular Nutrition (with MUSC, Clemson) Biomedical Vision Science (with MUSC) Biomedical Patient Simulation Center (with MUSC) Biomedical Stroke (with MUSC) Biomedical Carolina Laser Lighting Horizon Fuel Cells/Hydrogen Energy Horizon Biodefense & Biosecurity (with MUSC) Public Health Translational Cancer/Molecular Epidemiology (with MUSC) Public Health Memory Therapeutics (with MUSC) Biomedical Received approval for $58 million in Research University Infrastructure bonds that will help fund:
  5. I'm glad to see someone got around to posting the article I was yestardy but I fell asleep b/c I work the nightshift. Anyway I can't wait to see it up and running!
  6. That is good news! I like the way there developments look! I'd be glad to see when they have some renderings!
  7. Does anyone know where some renderings of the completed campus could be found?
  8. Has anyone seen any activity around this site lately? I was wondering how construction was coming along?
  9. It's finally here the opening of Granby mill lofts in Olympia. The State has an article that discusses the grand opening along with great things on the horizon for the area. Stars align for mill apartments Today, for the first time since 1996, the old Granby Mill will spring to life. Granby
  10. The cities official slogan is, "The Columbia Riverbanks Region, where friendliness flows", I just like the first part.
  11. I like the Riverbanks Region, I hate where friendliness flows, I have no idea what they were thinking?
  12. I like this idea. Hey Spartan have you ever thought about subtitling this Columbia, the Riverbanks Region instead of "Animis Opibusque Parati"? That's the official slogan now. Just a suggestion.
  13. USC is adding another addition to the research campus. In an attempt to keep the plastics indusrty thriving in SC USC's research campus may be adding another research lab to the mix. Plastics at USC USC research might protect state
  14. What exactly do you think could go wrong?
  15. Appearantly Columbia hasn't given up on the north side of town just yet $400,000 is planed to revitalize north Columbia. I remember a few years back when Eau Claire won some type of award for its efforts to revialize itself. Anyway there is an article in the state newspaper for those who may be interested. Reversing the trend
  16. It's good to see some visuals of the developments on a website. More Columbia developments need to be "published" like this.
  17. Those look nice but they do look pricey as you said. I wonder how much they will end up going for?
  18. That's awesome I guess they figure they can give visitors something to do while they are waiting to see their family and friends.
  19. Intel boosting USC program with $550,000 investment The world's largest computer chip maker has faith in the USC by delivering $550,000 of investment. I'm thinking that this is a continuation of good things to come out of the research campus initiative marriage between the public & private institutions. "The company
  20. Are you speaking of the old "Saxon Homes" area? Cause if so that is amazing! I really don't recognize the place. Not in a million years would I thought that they would be able to completely redevelop that area. I have to be honest with you I don't know many street names back home unless they were major roads, or unless it was in St. Andrews.
  21. Yeah I think they will. It's one of the better places too live in the state in my opinion if you are an "educated" black person. Columbia has a very large black middle class. Something that I didn't see much of in Myrtle Beach or Greenville when I was living in those cities. It has the largest % of minority owned businesses in the state. I would like to see some PR in the way that Charlotte, or Atlanta has gotten. Both towns have been considered "top ten" cities for minorities. I think a large part of Columbia's mid-class black population is due too USC, Benedict, Allen, & SC State in Orangeburg about 45mins. down the road.
  22. My family originally from SC left and come back in the early 80's to Columbia. We folllowed the trend of migration the article speaks of, I thought it was interesting. New black residents making subtle entry into Columbia market By WARREN BOLTON Associate Editor WHEN TONY Grant lived and worked in Charlotte a few years ago, new African-American business people moving to the city were greeted by an unofficial welcoming committee. It was an attempt by local chamber members to get new residents active in the community. Mr. Grant said that doesn
  23. Good question. I couldn't tell you much. I do believe there is an extention highway being built from Columbia to I-77 or I-26 around the airport/ SE beltway. Not sure where that exact location is though? As for Shop Rd. I don't know I guess they are gonna wait until that area has gotten to far developed and then wait and say, "Oh yeah I guess we need to widen the roads".
  24. Columbia in the running with Hartford, Loiusville, Philadelphia, Dallas, Ontario, CA, & Rockford, Il, for UPS hub expansion. UPS might expand in Columbia A sorting facility for heavy cargo will be built at one of the firm
  25. Yeah I agree. Lexington should have its own facility to serve the western Columbia metro.
