I think I may remember the monkeys at Cromer were they in a glass cage as you entered the store? Also with Finlay Park I always thought it started out as Sydney Park and then it was changed to Finlay about 2 years after it opened? I do remember Mayfest there though! My sister said it stopped once it started turning into Columbia's version of freak-nik. She went to one of the last ones the ever had.

So let me get this straight you go to a Columbia paper forum boost your hometown and childishly bash that city and it's inhabitants then come back and pat yourselves on the back about what you posted. Yet you claim people from Columbia are childish and refuse to accept others points of views? I do believe I have lost respect for this thread and this forum.

Yeah I can't see Columbia's boom until a few years down the road. Usually the area has always been steady.

USC is looking for sponsors in the feul cell industry to light the events at baseball, basketball, and football games similar to what was done with the Colonial Center, also incentives to any start up feul cell companies wishing to move to the Columbia area!

Good to see that Ed Venture is defeying the odds! Anybody starting to see a trend here? USC, Colonial Center, Convention Center, mabye Innovista next hmm.

The census usually is pretty conservative ie the 9,000 number versus the 14,000 Lexington's population is probablly closer to 20,000 now.

That is great news! Man there has really been a huge difference in USC's face since Sorensen took over! I found a website that list the different categories of research activity according to Carnegie.

Again it's not an absolute number it's an estimate so the cities municipal population could be anywhere from 115,000 to 125,000 as of 3/5/2006. I do know however census numbers tend to lean on the conservative side of the curve.

Not so concerned if Columbia is the states 1st, 2nd, or 3rd municipality just want to see the city grow and live up to its potential. However in regard to the current day projected population of the city it has been posted in SC Metro Population Est thread post #60. That's the only source I have that verifies that number if that aint good enough then I don't know? Besides it's obvious that Charleston and its MSA is in the strongest position to take the lead. There isn't much that will stop the coast from growing. Oh and that is great news for the university and the city. Again confirming how serious USC & Columbia are about taking the Midlands & the state to the next level!

The State is the highest circulated volume in the state, but your right it's a pretty decent paper or atleast just as good as papers I've seen elswhere. Of course not as good as the New York Times, or Washington Post.

Newberry for sure its already in the Columbia CSA, Sumter and Orangeburg are possibilities as well. The south is growing at an alarming rate and as many of the major cities beocme overcrowded people are gonna be looking to settle in bedroom cities 30-45mins of the metro.

^Yeah I saw that yestarday and posted in the SC economic engine thread. Didn't get many responses though? Kinda nullifies that whole Greenville/upstate we should secede with CLT, & RDU economic engine thing. As I said though the state's economic engine may come as a surprise but if one truly thinks about it should be a no brainer.
