  1. There are plenty of image upload services around nowadays. I find the more obscure ones to be better as they don't place any limits on you. I'll try to come up with a list when I get home. However, sites like Flickr makes things a little easier for you since they will automatically resize your picture. Several people out there will just take images off their camera and upload them. Of course, right off the camera, the images are huge. Unresized images won't fit on the screen, take forever to download, etc. So, if you don't know how to resize your pics, I'd recommend Flickr or one of its wannabes. Note: Irfan View is a nice sort of do it all program. And it's free.   2. Hmm, I agree... And I guess on a larger topic, I have a little concern to go with my excitement about what's happening to NWA. I know this has been discussed before, but I'll add my own thoughts. For every soul-less quickly developed building that goes up, the area loses a little character. Sometimes I drive around and I see new buildings that look more like a scar on the landscape than anything else. Some of these places just scream ordinary. But, most people (myself included) are initially more excited about just having... say, a TGI Fridays, than overall feel of the landscape. What will the area look like in 20 years if this continues? I guess I'm most concerned about Fayetteville. It seems to have a certain feel to it more than the other cities. Imagine the feel you have walking around the Square. Not that the buildings are masterpieces or anything, but I certainly enjoy it more than the newer parts of town. Maybe I'm being overly concerned. Everything has a way of eventually coming together, I suppose.
  3. I think I've seen XNA listed as "Bentonville" in some other airports. I also remember my last flight arriving in XNA the pilot said "...service to Bentonville..." in his pre-flight speech. It's no wonder people would call it that.
  4. I've been okay. I've had a lot going on recently. I'm working as a security engineer (actually in McLean, VA (but I live in the district)). It was tough to leave, but it was the right time to do it. I plan on moving back to NWA some day. I don't think anywhere else will ever feel like home. I'm really starting to appreciate how cheap everything is out there. My share of the rent in my apartment now is $840 (utilities included though). When I joined these forums, my share of the rent was $237. That's quite a jump. But, DC and the surrounding area is an interesting place. So far I'm enjoying it.
  5. You know what road really needs work? If you go east on Joyce from the mall and go past 265, you run into this little tiny windy section of the road that is barely big enough for 2 cars. Plus, there is no shoulder, just a ditch (more like a dropoff). Plus the turns make it difficult to see if anybody is coming. One time I was coming home and a guy with a trailer was in the middle of the road. He saw me and moved over. But his trailer was still in the middle of the road. It was too late to stop, and even if I did it still would have hit me. I was forced to go off the road a little. While coming back on the road, I dented my rim pretty badly. In fact I had to buy a new one. I'm thankful the tire still held air. Sorry to go off on a rant there, but they need to fix that. EDIT (first draft typed too quickly without proofreading)

  8. Well, I asked somebody that lives by the track in fayetteville how often trains come through. Apparantly a train comes through about once every other day.
  9. Well, using existing track would be an excellent idea. But the first question that comes to mind is what about existing Ark/Mo Railroad traffic? It's not like that line is not used. Would the Greenway have to hide on a seperate portion of track while the Ark/Mo trains went through? I don't know how often trains come through right now, but I assume it's something like twice a day. The route would work well. The existing lines go right by areas like Dickson street, Emma (downtown Springdale). But also go by areas like the Springdale chicken plants. I'm not sure if people would want to go by those things. Plus, people already hate waiting for trains now. There's a lot of roads that don't need to be tied up by rail traffic every hour.
  10. As much as I like the idea of this Greenway thing, I still think it would be kind of silly right now. Sure, we might need this sort of thing 20 years in the future. And maybe now is the best time to have it already in place for the future. From a planning perpective, it's a great idea. But from an economic perspective, it's horrible. The thing would cost a ton of money, and then lose even more money for probably the first 15 years it ran. All this time, we would have just spent a bazzilion dollars on a train and we wouldn't have any money for much needed road improvements.
  11. I was kind of curious what they were going to do with that building. Springdale isn't going to like not having a Sam's anymore. Sam's does a lot of business and Springdale doesn't want to lose the benefits of that. If a costco goes in, that might help out.

  13. Well, I'm pretty sure it will sell hard liquor. The Sam's club in Springdale does not sell any alcoholic beverages...because they can't. I'm sure they'd love to. I also think it's kind of funny that Sam's can't require you have a membership to buy beer. So I'm pretty sure this one won't require anything either. I think Sam's is getting around the law by having the seperate building. Which makes you think some grocery stores might start doing the same thing? Who knows. There is also a law, at least in Springdale, that prohibits one person from owning more than one liquor store. I think that applies in Fayetteville too. There's a lot of funny laws when it comes to alcohol.

  15. Maybe the first Sam's Club to sell liquor. I'm not sure.
  16. You can only buy alcohol in a liquor store around here. Unless, of course, you get it by the drink at a bar or restaurant.
  17. If the 412 bypass goes by the airport it would pretty much eliminate the need for a western bypass. I think the problem most people don't like about going to the airport is going through the small towns on 2 lane roads, getting stuck behind a tractor when their flight is leaving, etc. But if people could head up 540, then merge on to another highway, just as big, that went to the airport, I don't think there would be a problem. But right now, I think I'm for 540 improvements. I used to use that road a bunch going back and forth from school sometimes 3 times a day. I remember when they repaved it not too long ago. I was very unhappy they didn't add on another lane each way. It would have been a lot simpler while they already had everything torn up. But about the monorail. I'm just talking around the university. I don't think it would cost a crazy amount. Well maybe it would. But how much did they spend on that new parking deck? 30 mil? They could put up more parking lots at Baum and monorail people in! Plus it would be a great attraction for the university. Would you rather go to school X with no monorail or school Y with one? Easy decision. By the way, I rarely say anything that's entirely serious, I don't know if that comes through in the text. We already have the Ozark Regional Transport. But it doesn't really go many places. Not really a substitute for driving unless you don't have a car.
  18. Now are we talking about the area where 112 intersects 540. Right now there's just a field there with a bunch of cows in it. Or are we talking about somewhere else?
  19. I'm going to hold off my vote until I understand things a little... Where would the light rail stops be? Where would the western bypass be? The Eastern parkway? I've always thought it would be nice to have another N-S limited access highway on the east side of things. East Springdale is a rapidly expanding area. Eastern Fayetteville is growing too. Not so much in eastern Rogers. But anyway, it would be nice to have 540 split in two and you could go on one side or the other of the cities. A 412 bypass could intersect them in the middle and go out to the airport. I've been thinking that the university could use a Monorail. I don't know what it is, but I just like monorails. I think it could do kind of a figure 8 and could make getting to football games a lot easier. Just a silly idea but wouldn't that be cool. Just a thought.
  20. Well, I'm from Springdale, but I currently live in Fayetteville. I'm fairly knowledgable about the area. But it's always nice to learn about things I wasn't aware of.
  21. Well, this is a pretty good thread. I've been reading it for a while now. I am a Springdale native, but I now live in Fayetteville (where I was born actually) for school. I remember when I was younger I never really even considered Fayetteville a different city. It was all just one place. A few things I've noticed while I've been reading. I thought it was funny what people are saying about Dickson St. then and now. A few months ago I was talking to my uncle about that kind of stuff. He hasn't been back to the area since he left about 10 years ago. He and his wife prefer the pre-walton art center Dickson. They said something to the effect of "...and then the walton art center came along and the place just changed". I thought that was interesting. I think about the only place left with the original character is Roger's Rec. And I heard that place is either for sale or has been bought. It's at least for sale. I was at the Rec just last night, partly because I knew its days were numbered. It's suprising to me that several of my friends do not even know it's there. Even though they go bar hopping quite often. I say I'm going to Roger's Rec and they say, "Why are you driving up to Rogers?". Then I explain to them it's on Dickson. Not that I don't like the other bars on Dickson. I go to them quite a lot too. I think it's also interesting how bars are expanding to West st (Grub's, On the Rocks, Alligator Ray's...). As someone that has been raised in NW Ark, I do feel kind of feel a separation from the rest of the state. My grandparents live in east AR. It feel so different over there. And I've never even been to SE Ark, or really to NE Ark. As far as roads. 540 really needs to be a lane or two bigger. And not really even for just planning ahead. Some portions need to be 3 lanes right now. There really needs to be a 412 bypass that goes to the airport. I would also really like to see another major N-S road. But roads really are a problem sometimes. But it depends on where you're going. If I go home to my parents house. It's a 15 minute drive to north Springdale from my apartment by the university. If I go to towork, it's a 25 minute (if I'm lucky) drive to SE Springdale. Why? because there's no good way to go east. Joyce is okay, but it's like a puzzle trying to avoid getting stuck behind someone waiting to turn. There needs to be a turn lane on that road. As far as a Starbucks. I would really like to see Fayetteville get a real starbucks. I go to the Barne's and Noble caffee quite often. In fact I'm about to go right now. It's pretty much a Starbucks with a different name. A few times I've driven up to Bentonville to go to a real one. What they really need is a starbucks somewhere close to Dickson. Well, that's about all I can think of to say. Sorry for the long post. I haven't proof read any of that and it's more of stream of conscience rambling than anything.
