  1. Not news, sorry... I thought some of you would find this interesting. Anyone know where these buildings are? Bordello in a hotel? Church Street Station - Church Street - Church Street Station became an Orlando tourist attraction in 1974, but the buildings that make up the complex are much older. Among these buildings include the Bumby Hardware Building (1886), the original Orlando Train Depot (1889), the Leon Building (1920), and the Orlando and Strand Hotels (circa 1920). There are a number of eyewitness accounts involving apparition sightings, unexplained sounds, electrical anomalies, and cold spots. In The Strand Hotel section, The Bordello Room has long been associated with cold spots and the unexplained sounds of a baby crying, thought to bespirits of newborns murdered by their prostitute mothers. Many employees feel a cold chill in this room, and many refuse to enter it alone. Stories of paranormal phenomena abound at Church Street, and include those of various night managers who had the not so coveted privilege of closing the property. Many of these managers are convinced that a particular piano seems to be the focal point of the haunting. They believe this because they have heard music emanating from it when nobody was playing it! Some of these employees vacated the property immediately and never returned. Employees and guests alike have seen the apparition of a man in a top hat and long coat roaming the halls outside the banquet rooms. He also has been seen playing the infamous piano, and is often seen in a mirror in the hallway leading to the Bordello Room.
  2. ... and best of all, not have to use ATL as an international hub. Ugh. Though I must admit, that airport is improving.
  3. LOL. Thanks. I'm glad you know what I meant .
  4. I love it... Rosalind has so much potential to be a street heavy with pedestrian traffic.
  5. Funny you should mention Gehry in Orlando as I was just reading an article from Metropolis Magazine about Gehry's new building in Chelsea--- it's fantastic. The article is on their site right now. Seriously, if Biloxi's Georgia O'Keefe museum can be Gehry, someone needs to love Orlando enough to invest in a renowned architect of our time. As for the wheel, sadly, yes, seeing Disney is exactly what they'd want to see. Granted the wheel can also be used as convention space, a wedding pavillion, Bar/Bat Mitzot, etc.; putting it on I-Drive makes perfect sense unless Kuhn really invests in Church Street Station and makes it more convenient and tourist friendly--- but do we want that? Living down in the southside amongst all the tourist crap and driving with them constantly blaring my horn or veering around their sight-seeing driving... it's great to get away from them downtown. Also, let's face it... our downtown is rather underdeveloped. A 400' Ferris-Wheel would stand out like a sore thumb and reaffirm the idea that we are indeed a "Tourist Town" and nothing more.
  6. If you go to the Great Wheel's site, they have a "Great Train" concept--- THAT would be uniquely iconic. As for the location of the O-Wheel, it's on the south side of the Beachline? Seriously, Westwood Blvd. is on the West end of I-Drive; not desirable, and the off-ramp and a small lot besides Aquatica is there... also not desirable. Putting it next so close (southside of 528) is free promo for SeaWorld, and not deserving. They played a role in "derailing" the high speed rail and distributed propaganda to the employees. If anything the O-Wheel should go between the Peabody and new Convention Center wing where the walkway oddly splits.
  7. Sorry, yes, the 787... ahhh... so nice.
  8. Yay! I don't know if I should be happy that I recognize the buildings in my city of residence or if I should be sad that I have no life and can decipher abstract photos of local architecture? Great photos though!
  9. Isn't Lufthansa on the list to receive the Boeing 767 Dreamliner? I cannot wait to fly in one of those.
  10. LMAO--- you know, even when I don't mean to be dirty, I wind up being dirty. Those who know me personally will attest to this. Anyway, it reminds me of "Med. Revivial" with "...italia" in it. Anyway, I'm glad all of those human sexuality classes I took paid off somehow.
  11. 25. Bank of America- Celebration 26. Mission: SPACE (building)
  12. "Digitalia" --- so there can be an excuse for all of Orlando's Mediterranean Revivial and adds a certain sense of pretention that Orlando tries so hard to achieve. Also, it sounds like a futuristic Utopia.
  13. Not to mention the tripod... hmmm... I just caught this... as evveryone else has said, no need to feel like an "A-hole", your photos are great, especially seeing how different the angles are!
  14. The view *is* great up there, especially on a clear day. You can see the downtown skyline all the way through the J.W. Marriott in Hunter's Creek. You are right though, one would need a tremendous telephoto lens to get clear shots.
  15. The same as any other Wal-Mart Supercenter. The McDonalds looks "nicer" than most McDonalds, but other than that... that's it. The grocery selection sucks (I was looking for spinach or sundried tomato tortillas to make wraps... all they had were corn and flour). One thing I did like was that the frozen section has motion activated lighting. When no one is around, the lights turn off to conserve energy... when you get close, they turn on. So at 1 a.m. it was exciting to run up and down the frozen aisles activating the lights like Bruce Allmighty or that scary old guy from Poltergeist II or III. Sorry...
  16. It seems that the latest trend is for sugar daddies to find "boiz" from Western Asia... maybe that's why he was there.
  17. Because Dynetech Centre's retail space is so small (don't forget that they had to have a coffee shop inside), and we would like to see Magnolia become a downtown retail corridor, why not take the space that used to be Gweneviere's/Natura on Magnola and Pine and turn that into a Borders or local independant bookstore? The back has a second floor entrance, they could open it up and put upstairs lofts in the gallery portion.
  18. If the Church Street mall is successful, then place a UNIQLO in there to compete with H&M. It's more affordable than H&M, at least the Japan stores are. I've not been to their American stores yet. UNIQLO is great quality, especially considering the price.
  19. I just got back from seeing The Blue Man Group tonight--- definitely a great show! It has so much energy, and if you've not seen a Blue Man Group show before, very unique. Even if you have, do not worry, the show will be tweaked in the upcoming weeks to add/change elements that aren't at any other venue. I can't wait to go back and see it again. Definitely a great addition to Universal. Hit up Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific, take the boat to CityWalk and see a Blue Man show... This town is great--- but needs to be phenomenal!
  20. I went to a media shoot for the Orlando Blue Man Group and from the taste of what the show will bring it's definitely a welcome and exciting new venue for Orlando. It totally could have fit in Church Street Station, but I'm glad it's here. Look for the grand opening next Wednesday!
  21. Eh, I kinda' like the train. I always waited for the day to see the Commuter Rail pull up alongside it at the Church Street stop. Wait a minute, will Kuhn be including anything for the Church Street Commuter Rail stop?
