  1. Actually, have you visited the Walt Disney Concert Hall? The gardens on the ? floor, the views of downtown LA from up there, and the way the building interacts as sculpture on that level may just change your mind.
  2. I agree with the corners needing some sort of interaction, and focal point, a "weenie" in themed entertainment architectural terms. One example that came to my mind is this conical glass spiral stairway at Roppongi Hills in Japan: At night, the cone glows and captures your attention, below is a public plaza to into the labyrinth of a shopping mall. I can't find better photos of it...
  3. (Sorry everyone else) Bulldogger... you went to Gateway too? Hmm... How many Gateway grads are there in this forum?
  4. Wow... VERY nice shots! Does anyone know what the deal with Dynetech's purple/blue crown lighting is? I've not seen it on in weeks.
  5. Please don't include Imagineering in our list of tech jobs. They're based out of Glendale. and most everything is outsourced these decades.
  6. Maybe this bridge has been reserved to somehow be integrated into the Commuter Rail platform for CS? O.
  7. Though I like Cloudship's "no-chain" idea, in this town right now we need "chains" to bring people. Along the shore I would make it similar to Hollywood's The Grove at Farmers Market. The theme park-esque stylised shopping district located beside the historic Famers Market (Fairfax) really seemed to draw a crowd throughout the day and night. The street car is a nice touch as well. I think we could definitely pull something like this off downtown, with bigger anchors such as a Barnes & Noble, Cinema, restaurants, Apple Store, etc. Hell, place a fountain show in Lake Lucerne and we can rival Vegas and give Dr.Phillips' new development a run for their money. Other retail that could be places in my hypothetical urban fantasy are World Market, Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Wild Oats/or whatever that other new SoCal "it" Organic Market is, Container Store, CB2, Intelligentsia Coffee, Urban Outfitters, EQ3, BJ's Brewhouse, Elephant Bar, Metropolitan Deluxe, UNIQLO... then scatter some indies throughout the 'plex. I know this place could be hyped up enough to be Orlando's "it" place. It would have to be more than one level, definitely... and unfortunately, yet welcomed would be the tourists ($$$).
  8. That was a plan by WDI---- SQUASHED long ago. Disney's Wide World of Sports is all that you'll probably ever see of it.
  9. Anal beads hanging from trees, Hamburger Mary's, what?
  10. There can be so many pro-Commuter rail arguments, especially in a time of environmental and energy concerns. Leave it to Polk county. Surprised a Senator from there passed the reading exam.
  11. Just think what a water taxi system would be like if they built one to connect Lake Lucerne, to Lake Eola, to Lake Ivanhoe? THAT would put downtown Orlando on the map. Especially if retail and restaurant were integrated along the shores. Lake Lucerne from the south shores to the north would make a great lakefront dining and strolling experience with views of downtown. There is already residential close-by. Add some mixed-use midrises and BAM! On the way to Eola there could be a stop at the PAC. We already have a few hotels on Lake Ivanhoe and it would add business to the Antique District. Dammit... did someone just wake me?
  12. I've been meaning to post this to all of you fans of In & Out Burger--- according to a store in Phoenix, we (Orlando) will be getting one sometime next year. I don't eat beef, but I make exceptions from time-to-time.
  13. Now that ROHO is surely gone, anyone know what really happened and why? What I heard was the partners who owned it had a falling out so they closed it, with one partner planning to reopen it. I saw a few weeks ago that everything was gone. This is sad, ROHO was so good and unique.
  14. ... is that supposed to allude to Mandarin Oriental? Has the hotelier been announced yet? (currently enjoying lovely Chipley, FL)
  15. Agreed---- hence Urbanity, not views of sprawl or low-density development.
  16. No, it's a lot nicer than the outside of the DP location--- it looks more like the inside of the Mexico pavillion at Epcot. Hopefully this Corona won't have the same pretentious DBs hanging around outside as DP has.
  17. Good to know next time I'm there with one of my friends who lives in the Waverly--- either that, or your server was hitting on you.
  18. ... and more! Act quickly and personal life coach included for no additional fee!
  19. LOL. Are you sure it wasn't in College Park? One of my friends was a cop out there and the stories I've heard--- wow. No wonder he hates Atlanta. AirTran's office is right on the border of College Park and are the disorganised.
  20. Well said. AirTran's close proximity to College Park (Collipark to Atlanteans and hip hop fans) allow the company to pay little for their efficient corporate staff, and allow the corporate leaders to enjoy lovely south Atlanta. College Park is the Atlanta hub of high culture.
  21. No, this is BEC of course. Doesn't surprise me with their lack of planning, foresight, and cost-cutting attitude. Hope the new pak doesn't leak into the aquifers like the saltwater pool at Discovery Cove.
  22. What gay wouldn't love to restore an old crack house? C'mon. "Seize the day. Parramore to gay!"
