  1. update on downtown grocery store from Smitty... There is a new Downtown Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday in the parking lot of The Werehouse and Krankies Coffee Bar at 211 E. Third St. The market is directed to the residents of downtown and surrounding areas and will feature local seasonal produce, prepared foods, crafts, plants and art.You can come by and grab lunch, buy groceries, and hang out with the old and new cast of characters who live in, or are supporters of, downtown. There will be music and refreshments and Krankies Coffee Bar will be open. The hope is that the market can help be a catalyst for a grocery store/co-op in downtown Winston. We may be looking a couple of years down the road on this effort. story http://www.dtgrocery.com/
  2. PTRP update... Wake Forest University plans to relocate their business incubator to Linden and Third in Piedmont Triad Research Park from University Parkway. Park officials also plan to add a 5,000-square-foot "laboratory hotel" on the first floor of the Biotechnology Research Facility 1. article

  4. from journalnow.com AllPoints buys $1 million building at First and Liberty AllPoints Research Inc., a marketing-research company, has bought a building on First Street across from Corpening Plaza downtown for $1 million and plans to move there from leased space on North Point Boulevard in a few months. Tara Olson, one of the owners of AllPoints, said yesterday that the company had been wanting to buy a building for several years and the building at First and Liberty streets fit its needs. "We really believe in the downtown revitalization effort," Olson said. AllPoints, which Olson owns with Sherrie Aycock, has 17 employees, including the owners. Olson said they plan to make improvements on the building and it would be a few months before the business moves in.
  5. New sports bar coming to Burke Street! from Smitty's notes on journalnow.com A new establishment is coming to the Burke Street district. It's called Sports on Burke - a restaurant, grill and sports bar rolled into one. The proprietor is leasing about 2,300 square feet of space in a building partially occupied by Morning Dew Coffee Roasters. The restaurant will have a 10-foot projection-screen TV and nine 42-inch plasma-screen TVs throughout, including the bathroom, so you won't have to miss a minute of your favorite sporting event. However, the emphasis will be on the food. The menu will feature a mix of breakfast items, burgers, wraps, salads, fish, chicken and beef entrees. Brunch is planned on Sunday. There will be seating for 100 patrons and there are plans for live music and stand-up comedy a couple of times a month. The owner said he hopes to open within the next few weeks, pending final inspections. Sports on Burke is at 1049 Burke St. The hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week. For more information, call 722-9986. As for Morning Dew Coffee Roasters, proprietor Jim Brady, who is also the building's owner, has seen a shift in his retail business over the past few years, with a decrease in sit-down coffee drinkers and more takeout customers. There has also been a large increase in Morning Dew's coffee-roasting business, which now accounts for most of his sales, so Brady decided the timing was right to lease the additional space to Sports on Burke. Morning Dew is still open for business next door at 1047 Burke St. There are just fewer places to sit down. For more information, call 723-5282.

  11. R&D just got a major boost in PTRP. Two medical breakthroughs worthy of international attention were announced in the last month. Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center said yesterday that researchers have successfully rebuilt human bladders for seven young patients - a dramatic new phase in the field of tissue engineering. Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center said yesterday that it has developed white blood cells from special mice that cured cancer in ordinary mice - a medical breakthrough that could lead to treatment for humans.

  14. back to the progress... a few renderings of the first prebyterian church expansion. bye-bye surface lot.
  15. thanx for posting. love that shot of wachovia center!
  16. Davie County considers joining PART. article
  17. i know the headquarters are in Greensboro but it just doesnt seem right to build it there. the city has no ACC team and now the basketball tournament is rotating. it seems more fitting to build it somewhere in the triangle. That area just emanates college sports.
  18. actually, the triad had 2 airports...friendly in greensboro and smith reynolds in winston-salem. the triad wanted to build one central airport to serve all three cities and at that time, guilford county was the central location. thats they only reason why the won the battle. location was the deciding factor.
  19. thank you. I remember when this was first proposed. ironically, it was right after PTRP started its expansion with the groundbreaking of Research Facility One. if im not mistaken, it was leaders from Guilford County that came up with the idea of having a research/business campus between the Forsyth/Guilford lines. the map that cityboi posted says it all. look at where most of the development would be! i would much rather forsyth pull out of the proposal and let guilford develop this area in the western part of the county. they could even give it the title as "largest research campus in the triad". W-S should ONLY be focusing on PTRP...since we now know that a strong effort needs to occur to keep the 30,000 job promise. this area will not benefit W-S at all, but mostly Kernersville/Guilford County. this is the same scenario with "Piedmont Triad International"...yea right. if ever possible, i will fly out of smith reynolds from now on. we have one low cost carrier so far. if 3 or 4 come on board then we're good. i know it may be hard for non W-S residents to understand, but its odd flying out of an airport that serves your city, and you are not well represented in ads or even the airport code. I cant speak for Greensboro but, in and around downtown Winston-Salem is seeing a healthy amount of development and i think a huge park with cheaper land prices could slow down growth in our core. perfect example: theoretically, look at what RTP did to the downtowns of Durham and Raleigh. why not let these towns develop naturally, Kernersville is off to a good start with forming its own identity. Union Cross is about to be annexed by W-S. Colfax is positioned to grow just by its location. all unincorporated areas could just stay green.
  20. im sorry but im dont like this idea. i would rather see this attention be focused on the cores of greensboro, high point and winston-salem. the last thing the triad needs is a huge area devoted to sprawl.
  21. PTRP/Goler article from today's journal. i guess we now know what Goler Manor will look like. Thats a pretty impressive height for a six story residential building. It looks like it will be just as tall as the Gallery. @ 10,000 PTRP jobs in 5-10 years. article
  22. i forgot that i took some pix last summer around PTRP. i love these two i posted this one before. are these the properties that were donated by ReynoldsAmerican?
  23. U spoke it to be Hotlanta. Targacept Makes Plans to go Public
  24. that would be such a boon. A research park with a fortune 500 HQ. whats taking prince edward hall so long to break ground? the rendering and fencing is still up but no earth is moving. is it cancelled?
  25. the competition just got even more heavy with that Kannapolis plant being built. that could slow down the 20 year projections of PTRP. i think it should be pretty successful though. the success of the park will be determined not just by the job growth but by the residential and retail growth. obviously, the vision of the park has changed considerably from 3 years ago. i also heard about that building bordering bus. 40. ptrp.org does show it with the "current development" graphic. thats the rumored building to the south.
