  1. It's officially Paris, per US Airways press release. http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/about....aspx?c=hp_news
  2. They would probably put the 3rd 332 on PHL-ATH (which is stretching the 333's range) This will free up whatevers currently doing ATH for a possible CLT-CDG. ...or they will just throw another dart at a map of Europe and serve it from PHL
  3. Did anybody see the segment on CNBC that featured Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks) and our very own Bob Johnson? The discussion was on the economic downturn and the fortunes of sports franchises. At one point, BJ made fun of the teams record and incorrectly referred our oft-injured former Heel as Scott May. He also said something to the effect of a sports franchise is a great investment akin to beach front property. When asked about ticket prices being too high for the average fan in this economic climate, Cuban said he would never want to hear a fan say that, and therefore created a small section of $2 seats. BJ sidestepped the question and said he could see Russia from his house. (j/k on that one) Folks, we got ourselves a winner
  4. Or they could be like Southwest, and still give free beverages and snacks, and not even HAVE a beverage cart.
  5. They would still have to re clear security as they would have had access to their checked bags in Customs. The good thing about this setup would be that international arriving passengers would have a dedicated security setup within the new terminal, as opposed to now, where intl passengers are just dumped into baggage claim after clearing customs and have to reclear through the regular security line. ATL is a good example of how it probably would be in the new terminal.
  6. Light Rail and High Speed rail are two separate entities, the latter being High Speed Intercity Rail, specifically an extension of the Northeast Corridor Acela from Washington down to Charlotte. www.sehsr.com
  7. Whats sad is every time I smell diesel smoke (anywhere in the WORLD), I immediately think of the baggage claim at CLT. It must be one of those strong associations that have been imprinted in my brain.
  8. here, you can see how close the parking garage is in san diego.
  9. Looks like CLT's on time factor is up at this time from last year. (83% of flights on time). This placed CLT 9th among the major airports in the USA. http://www.charlotte.com/109/story/702866.html
  10. Probably because of the statement released a month ago stating that the Continental-United merger deal was dead. What United and Continental are pursuing at this time is an alliance, not a merger. Now we have reports of Continental saying it might get out of Skyteam. This is a logical progression from UA and CO's alliance talks. I wonder what it will mean for US when Continental joins the Star Alliance. I don't think there is room for three US carriers in *A. Things could get interesting from here.
  11. AA didn't exactly abandon Nashville for STL. STL was acquired via the TWA buyout, which was several years after AA dumped BNA. While I don't thing US/AA would spell total disaster for CLT, I think US/UA would certainly open an opportunity for some growth.
  12. I was on an American Eagle turboprop once, coming into San Juan from Grenada. Everything about the descent was totally normal, and just as we crossed the threshold of the runway, the pilot GUNNED the engines and we roared away. As we stabilized into level flight, the pilot came onto the PA and said "sorry about that folks. turns out there was an iguana on the runway, and they tried to get it off in time, but it was just to close to call so we'll go around and try it again." Must have been a big one.
  13. I agree, flying the E70-90 is a pretty nice ride. We were, however, promised a first class section in the larger E jets, but that never came to pass. Taking Airbii from PHL and putting even more small aircraft onto PHL's jam packed taxiways is not a good idea, IMO. Once that new runway opens, look for even MORE RJ's in CLT.
  14. I think they are just swapping gates between Mesa's (AWFUL) CR9's and Republics E70/75 planes. At least the E70s sorta look mainline.
  15. I would love for there to someday be a midfield terminal, a la Detroit or ATL in between those two...
  16. Looks like US has added nonstop Montreal (YUL) service from CLT, for the third time. This time, they appear to be doing it with a slightly larger (and more comfortable), but still Express, aircraft, the E175. Looks like its loaded in the schedule starting this July. 8:00 PM 01 Aug 2008 Charlotte, NC 10:23 PM 01 Aug 2008 Montreal, Canada 8:00 AM 08 Aug 2008 Montreal, Canada 10:32 AM 08 Aug 2008 Charlotte, NC 3313Republic Airlines Non Stop Details / Seats 2 h 32 m
  17. The way the word "arena" seems to raise peoples blood pressures around this town, they probably would be better served to call it the XX XXXX Center or XX XXX Forum or anything other than arena.
  18. I would imagine most fans coming to the ACC tournament would be staying in higher end hotels. General Public Tickets haven't been available for years. Most fans attending are of the "fat cat" alumni variety. These people generally aren't the ones staying in a Days Inn off exit 36.
  19. Which one is CLO? Cali? How big a market is that from the US?
  20. Plaza Frontenac has only two anchors...Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
  21. A CR9 for 3.5 hours from RDU to CUN? I'd rather just not go to CUN. An E70 wouldn't be so bad though.
  22. I guess we will have to wait for CHICAGO to get theirs first...
  23. Right, but travelling into and travelling through are two different things. Philly is WELL KNOWN as a miserable connecting hub.
  24. Ahh, so they decided to match United's tactic. Sigh, I was hoping the 2-3 week delay in anyone deciding to copy UAL would result in UAL's rescinding the policy. Is US only making non-elites pay the extra 25? Domestic only?
  25. Well its pretty clear that nobody was choosing this choice, hence their choice to pull out of this market.
