  1. If that is indeed the site, then I must agree that the height restrictions are outdated and should be revised given the area's current quick evolution. I also hope that some colorful materials are added to the Holiday Inn design like the new Spring Hills Suites on West End. I'm not expecting an extremely eye-catching design from a budget hotel, but a little color to liven it up more than recent nearby hotels like the Hyatt Place or Fairfield Inn would be a nice touch.

  2. I am so excited about this project (I live just 3 blocks away) The abandoned suburban style apartment complex that is almost entirely razed now was a magnet for crime and honestly was the most detroit looking thing in all of Nashville. This is going to be great for this location.

Those apartments were pretty nasty when my cousin lived in them well over a decade ago so I'm happy to see they'll finally be torn down. Many family members on my mom's side grew up in Cumberland View so it's neat to see the new development starting to pop up in that part of North Nashville. It's happening sooner than I expected too!

  3. Perhaps it's something else? :dontknow: I'm not exactly sure where the Holiday Inn site begins and ends. I just know it's near 4th and Peabody off KVB. I snapped this practically right across from The Rutledge and the Mexican restaurant when I noticed what appeared to be core drilling. Think the one story building that was behind the pole here was also torn down recently so something is going on.

  4. Tom Wood is a local writer/contributor to The Scene.  So are you of the belief that FromParkAvetoTn is the same person?

Probably not FromParkAvetoTn but who knows. I work in the Batman building as well and noticed the collapse. If you're like me and looking down at tourists day drinking in envy numerous times a day, then it's sort of difficult to miss a roofless building on Lower Broadway.

  5. When it's a list of those over 1mil though, Nashville is 3rd in percentage for domestic migration, right behind Austin and Raleigh. We're 8th for overall growth among major metros in percentage as well. In that list, it was Austin, Houston, Raleigh, Orlando, San Antonio, Denver, & Las Vegas ahead of us. Make no mistake, it hasn't slowed a single bit.

Here's an article that further breaks down the latest estimates with a full list for all major metros. Third in domestic migration percentage growth is quite impressive. It's perplexing that some people still don't want believe that Nashville is booming just because we're not putting up Austin's crazy numbers. Those people obviously haven't visited recently.

  6. I doubt chs would go downtown. They are a quite frugal company and it doesn't fit imo

Yeah, I was thinking the Seven Springs area near Brentwood off Old Hickory Boulevard when I read that they are considering Davidson County. That seems more of their cup of tea. Would love to have them in a new tower downtown though.

  7. The parking lot would be the most likely location.

I disagree. That strip is struggling at the moment because of lack of parking. It needs to become more of a neighborhood destination with the influx of new residents. Just to clarify:it doesn't sound like the strip is being torn down, but that the parking areas will be built up.

The NBJ journalist who wrote the story said it's his understanding it will just be the parking lots.

  8. So, now what?

With much anticipation, we have now seen Google's announcement, renderings of the Paramount, Virgin Hotel, Turnberry Development, the Emery/McMillan project, ground breakings for Bridgestone, The Westin, Aertson and SoBro and proposals for several mid-rise apartment and mixed use buildings in MidTown. All in just the past few months. So, now what?

I feel like we are about to hit a lull in the revelation of new, big project developments. Right now, I suppose we can look with reasonable anticipation toward groundbreakings for The Paramount, Emery/McMillan. Maybe the West End Summit project will move forward. I suppose there will be a Canopy Hotel announcement, or a 15 story office building in the Gulch, but unless something spectacular happens, it sure will seem to be slow. There sure doesn't seem to be any strong rumors of  any 'wow' factor projects. ???

You talked West End Summit up...

  9.

This was surprising when I first saw the headline, but I can definitely see how having to compete with Kroger, Publix and Target would be difficult for that Harris Teeter. It's a very nice supermarket but somewhat hidden and HT is also pricier than most of its competitors.
