  1. I think you can at Ichiban on 2nd Avenue or at least I believe I recall seeing them served there. You may want to call and ask them.
  2. I'm not feeling this proposal at all either. The 24 hour diner is about the only thing about it that piques my interest. I'd honestly rather see the whole site razed and made into a new urban, mixed-used neighborhood. Would the fairgrounds site even be enough space for a small theme park? I'm not sure that could work either.
  3. It looks like work is about to begin at the new commercial center at Lions Head Village on White Bridge Pike at the site of the old Calhouns. I don't know what retailers and restaurants will be included in the center, but I recall reading that there would be a couple of fast casual dining options.
  4. That would be great news! Yes, I do recall that site flooding extensively during the 2010 flood. I imagine that Hope Gardens will see an increase in interest in the coming especially once whatever Boyle is planning gets built.
  5. Good news! One fast food restaurant down. Jack in the Box, Checkers and Toxic Hell still to go.
  6. After attending a couple of concerts on the Thermal site, I sort of like the idea of keeping it as a event/green space with an amphitheater but with some improvements. I think a new Sounds Stadium would be a good fit on the East Bank and could go a long way to help revitalizing that side of the river.
  7. I'm confused about which building this will take up. MAI is in the building across from 12th and Porter and you definitely cannot fit 1,000 people in there. Will Anthem be in the building at Grundy and 11th?
  8. Wow! A Green Hills Thursday Twofer. These both look great. I'm excited to see more projects for Green Hills. I actually go to GH once or twice a week since it's only 10 mins away. The traffic rarely bothers me, but I usually take backroads (Estes, Abbott Martin, Lynnwood). I rarely access Green Hills from Hillsboro Pike.
  9. This proposal looks fantastic. It's well beyond what I could have imagined for that corner. I have been anticipating Green Hills going vertical.
  10. It was a pleasure to finally meet some of you at the forum meeting today and start putting faces with screen names. I look forward to seeing you guys again at future meetings.
  11. Check out the great write up about our downtown progress on MetroJacksonville.com. Those guys have done a great job of putting together a comprehensive urban development and issues site for their city. They profile cities throughout the country and seem to have great activity on their site. OKC has their own dedicated site called OKCTalk as well. http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2012-oct-downtown-revitalization-nashville
  12. ^ I'm not feeling the idea of big box retail for the old MCC, but what about a combo of House of Blues along with structured parking underneath as Gary Gaston suggested. Would there be enough space for both?
  13. ^ I wouldn't read too much into those comments there. There are a handful of scary hill jacks who seem to comment negatively on any and everything.
  14. That looks like the Mellow Mushroom building at the bottom of the plan. It looks like this will be another twin tower project.
  15. More great news! This sounds like it will take up almost that entire block at the 21st Avenue and Broadway bend. This should be pretty huge.
  16. ^ This was pretty much my thought as well. The success of the West End line could make a Charlotte Pike line even more viable.
  17. I agree completely. Hayes is a smaller street and is well-suited for a few apartment projects with some ground floor retail to activate those streets. I was just at Sitar a few days ago and could just visualize all those under-utilized parcels and parking lots filled with lofts, shops, restaurants and pedestrians. Church Street also has so much unrealized potential. I would love to see some sort of repurpose for the large brick industrial building at the corner of 16th and Church.
  18. A re-design would be nice. The current design is still understated and elegant aside from the squattiness of the towers, but I think the architects are capable of tweaking the design into something a little fresher especially if they add some height to one of the towers with the hotel. This is the same firm who designed Frost Bank Tower (Austin) and Terminus 100 (Atlanta), so they can put out strong work. Hopefully these will be well-lit at night like some of their other towers.
