  1. Any chance that 10th Street will be reestablished through this area?
  2. In the least they should build it with green features if they're not interested in the actual certification. Maybe they are, but it doesn't sound like it.
  3. Last I heard The Great Indoors wasn't doing that well. I think I read that in a retail mag, but I can't remember when. I think the original plan at SouthPark in Charlotte was to convert that Sears to a Great Indoors. It was later demoed, but I think that would have been cool.
  4. I second that emotion. While I like Friendly Center, I either prefer a true downtown experience a la Asheville or an enclosed mall.
  5. If it's a new store, Borders would seem to be the obvious choice since they don't currently have an Asheville presence. The B. Dalton would most likely shut down if that were the case. I guess it's also possible that the B&N is moving up the street, but that seems like a lot of work with a sizable store there already. Who knows though. The mall seems to be doing quite well in regards to new store announcements lately.
  6. It looks like they plopped one building on top of another. I wish they could have developed a better transition.
  7. That site plan was approved in January 2004, two years before the council approved Pope and Land's purchase of the property? Are we not just seeing a plat of what could happen based on the zoning that the city staff sought to change? The 'Vision' on the City Park site is similar, but not nearly as sparse.
  8. I did a 30 second map in Paint: Red - Levine owned Blue - Hal Marhshall - soon to be Levine owned Brown - Other owners Green - UNC Charlotte I probably missed quite a few, but this gives you an idea.
  9. If their participation would help spur development of the western line (on which I live), I would say go for it!
  10. I was just reading the Southeastern NC Passenger Rail report from 2005 and read this interesting paragraph:
  11. I could see some functions moving here, but while the France's are in power, I don't see the whole shebang moving to Charlotte.
  12. Do they really need to refer to "Charlotte, NC" in an Atlanta publication? EDIT: Just read it again and they give the other cities such as Austin, Nashville, and Tampa the same treatment. Just a bit sensitive to the NC syndrome I guess.
  13. More changes for Crabtree, this time inside: Crabtree Valley Mall provides update on expansion "Near Macy's department store on the lower level, six existing stores will be replaced by a major new retailer, also to be announced later." Six store spaces would seem to be almost the entire purple section: That's a pretty big store. H&M? Full-sized Crate & Barrel?
  14. I realize the Asheville service is a ways off (if ever), but I was wondering if you guys think that all the stations along the line will have scheduled stops or if they will be flag stops.
  15. Has this been approved by the city? It doesn't look too bad, but it would be nice if it were more integrated with the surrounding streets. It looks like the service entrances and alleys face all the major thoroughfares. Perhaps the topography makes that impossible, but it would be nice to examine the possibility.
  16. I know the legislature has lots of funding priorities right now, but I wish they'd make room for the western rail service. It's time to make this happen. (The Wilmington line(s) should happen too, but I live in the west, so I'm a little prejudiced.)
  17. Didn't realize they're putting in lakes.
  18. If people in the "know" are reading this thread, they're probably having a good time watch us speculate.
  19. Something definitely changed the developer's mind between the initial site plan and the first revision. He (they?) still own the land where the townhomes were proposed to go. I wonder what he'll do with the property now.
  20. It is really hard to tell anything about the Presbyterian site since all the structures are blacked out. Any thoughts on why they did that?
  21. You beat me to the punch with the pic. The write-up can be found here: Query-Spivey McGee Building
  22. Perhaps you guys should write a letter to the owner of the place. They may not give a flip, but it's possible that they may make changes if they knew they were losing customers due to their bouncers. It shouldn't be like a scene out of 'Night at the Roxbury.'
