  1. Well you guys, this may be happening faster than we know. Tonight there were orange cones and pavers all over 7th St... between Independence Blvd. and... you know it, Laurel. Could be unrelated I just found this to be a bit coincidental

    The Vue

i guess the craigslist ads worked
  3. i totally agree with dubones post. go to the transit thread or something.
  4. When I ponder NoDa's future, I have this really big wish that it will become a lot like Black Mountain, NC... If executed properly, it could become a really great art's stroll district.
  5. these conflicting renderings are craaaaaaazy! I men really, the two u meshed transform a lot... the first has 3rd level outdoor seating, then second pic shows the upper balcony stopping before the swoopy top architecture... then the picture below your post showsthe balcony going all the way around the swoopy thing, which is now recessed and looks liek a seperate level. Now, even if these are 2 different companys, they are joined in the same project and must collaborate a lot to make sure they aren't providing conflicting projects... I mean, ghazi has produced pics of the epicenter and hasn't differed from what has been produced by 210 trade... and part of ghazis project is built into 210 trade... so why can't they get their act together and just make it part of the contract to sign off on the release of the renderings that include their aspect of the project? teamwork people, teamwork! stop. the. confusion!
  6. I think there are just so many changes to the complex that the thing has evolved and left a paper trail of renderings. I am happy with the recent ones I have seen, but I am not too picky. I'll just be happy as long as it isn't a big concrete box with pyramids on top sitting vacant.
  7. In other news, Central 27 is rising quite nicely above the streetscape on Central. I really like this project b/c it is distinct and visible from Independence Blvd. I had no idea the area I had been looking at off of Independence all these years was actually the Central Avenue business district until seeing Central27 pop up.
  8. They installed the new Jet Blue ticket machines next to Lufthansa last week. They also sent out a press release about how they are upgrading one of the restrooms (woohoo).
  9. There has been a rendering up at that intersection for a little over a week now
  10. that would be a crappy place for a bloom. there is a harris teeter like a block away. they should put that with the boulevard centro project going in 1st ward
  11. It is unbelievable the amount of people that walk their dogs on leashes in the airport. I simply had no idea before I worked there. now as to how they knew the breed of poo... that is a mystery
  12. Is this complex being built all at once or are the buildings that were all white in the model being built as a second phase?
  13. What I am hoping for is a feel that is emerging around 6th and Tryon. I love that part of town at night, and really wish it would extend down toward the new arena. Downtown is finally starting to get a diverse entertainment feel around that part of town, but it definately needs work. A walk from 7th and Tryon toward 5th is filled with people on a Saturday night... The past couple of Saturdays a jazz band playing horns is in the Hearst courtyard raising collections to go compete in L.A.. Meanwhile, a very diverse and excited crowd stands by watching... further you pass a building packed with clubs, and turning left brings you past more clubs all the way to right about where the parking decks are after you pass Buckhead Saloon... Then you reach the arena which is packed everynow and then with people... It would be nice if the epicentre kind of fed into this with maybe latenight bowling and an extremely nice movie theater that could one day host movie premiers for the city... I just see this section of town eventually giving our city an exciting vibe... I really hope that the Epicentre plays into this with signage and activity. It would also be nice if Levine did too
  14. I do the same. I constantly tell my clients to take the elevator by jamba juice if they need to use a restroom.
  15. http://www.dfwairport.com/cdp/art/artists.html This is just some of what DFW offers their guests.. "The first time I flew through DFW a few years ago I almost stepped into a big pile of dog poop that had been left right in the middle of one of the concourses. " Thats unfortunate. " I've never had that happen in Charlotte which maintains a remarkably clean airport." HA! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... "In dealing with travel through a hub airport, and I have done lots of business flying, I can't say that I have ever had much of an opportunity to stop and admire the local airport art in the concourses. It's more important to find out where the next plane is and get there before you loose a seat." Then I guess the art would would not include you as a target audience. I personally enjoy art. "Art is better served in the ticketing and entrances to the airports where people have more time to admire it." In Charlotte, much more time is spent by travelers in the concourses than at the ticketing counters. A large majorirty of people never even see the ticketing counters. Lots are just connecting through. None of this gives an explanation as to why all of the public art is sitting in a private part of the airport... But from what I understand, this is a common practice in Charlotte. That statue only further shows how neglected art is at the airport. The base is missing giant areas of paint and is rusting horribly. I am sure it has had absolutely no maintenance since its installation. And if it has had repairs, the company responsible should be sued.
  16. This is already an expensive airport, if you haven't been there in a while. The cheapest men's shirt you can find is $100 unless it has Charlotte written on it. Everything has an additional 30% markup over normal markup b/c the airport takes 12% of all generated sales, plus extra high rent. The building is ABSOLUTELY disgusting. It just takes someone being there everyday of the week to notice. The restroom is rarely cleaned, and only 4 of the automatic sinks work in the one closest to my business. This has been like that for the past 6 months. The urinals look like wishing wells from the amount of pocket change rusting in them. The ceiling is rotting and falling apart in the main terminal. The punch sheet for the airport could go on for miles... There is seriously a hole knocked into the wall once every 10 feet. It looks like someone ran through with a bnaseball bat and just went to town. The airport charges way much for tenant rent for the accomadations. We pay high rent for a horrible, horrible space. I don't care if it is boring, cheap architecture. All I am asking for is fro a ligth switch that doesn't get scalding hot towards the end of the day from the cheap electrical work... it isn't safe, and it isn't healthy... Oh, and I am not even going to go into the conditions of the basement/ loading dock area. Let's just say that I wouldn't order a yogurt based drink from Jamba Juice... I just read this after making my last comment. I am glad someone else pointed out the holes in the walls! And the restrooms! One last thing that really really bugs me!! You go to an airport like the one in Dallas and you see beautiful public art everywhere. I have always wondered why our airport lacks it everywhere with the exception of a little on the A concourse... Then I had to take a trip up to the airport operations office where Jerry Orr runs shop. Let's just say I now know where 80% of the art in the airport is.
  17. Working at that airport, I can def. say it has many flaws. The bathrooms are in horrible disarray. The walls are often times dingy. The ceiling has horrible watermarks. Some parts have been half painted white and grey for as long as I can remember. It really does Charlotte no justice. Granted, the rocking chairs and piano are a nice touch and the selection of retail is nice, it still lacks granduer. I think it should undergo a 'southpark' esque remodel. I think it is getting a nice, upscale feel from the retail, but the building keeps it from pushing on to a higher level... And upgrading would only broaden the selection of services/products at our airport and make it more profitable... Our airport offers: Spa offering facials, massage, manicures and pedicures, as well as an oxygen bar Johnston and Murphy Bernards Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Yadkin Valley Wine Bar Brookestone Fox Sports Grille Chilis etc.etc.etc Why does it look like they are ina horribly outdated shopping mall? We need interior upgrades stat!

    Courtside

Click on Menu, then plans. Look at the floor plans and you see only 2 elevators.
  19. The new deck is flying along. Two cranes are up and they have already have the concrete poured for the first beams. It is really amazing watching how fast this is coming along, it seems everyday it looks a lot different. It would definately be nice having more international carriers... as of now there are almost no international flights until the afternoon... Working in a business ont he D concourse makes it a little frustrating... thank god for E or there would be no one walking by until like 2pm!!
  20. A buddy of mine on another site posted this recently... oooh, pretty
  21. How do the two peices of land that are currently on/off ramps come into play with the Nascar Hall of Fame. I know they needed the interchange with South Blvd. to be reworked to get the deal or something like that, but why?
  22. That is my friend Brent's house... He is an artist with some really great works. The house is really beautiful on the inside, It has original wood floors and original wood paneling... His neighbor to the right is a massage therapist and she has just created the most beautiful space in the upstairs for her appointments. If you like these photos their is a book they sell about the Plaza Midwood neighborhood (I think they may have it at Common Market) that features these shotgun homes and the neighborhood with a more in depth history
  23. can we start a thread called "Charlotte Gold"? or somethin... I keep thinking something is going on with the hall of fame...
  24. Wow, I use to live in those! They were old and dusty, I can't wait to see them transformed
