  1. I noticed that there was a pickup truck and a large construction dumpster in the former Dominion building lot as of yesterday. Today the dumpster is still there and there are more trucks. Anyone know anything about what's going on there? From what I can tell there's nothing filed for that space. It could totally just be maintenance but figured y'all might find it interesting or know more.
  2. I can attest that Fat Kid's makes a damn good sandwich but I will say that man their subs are pricey. I wonder if they will need to reduce the price down a bit considering how reasonable Sub Central's prices were.
  3. You are of course right and I appreciate the reality check, this isn’t all doom and gloom. I just hate the idea of giving up something that we have had successfully for multiple decades that is beloved by so many (minor league baseball in general I know the squirrels haven’t been here for that long). We already did that with the Colosseum and while I’m only 31 I remember going there multiple times a year as a kid and college student and loved it. I hope that doesn’t happen again. And as always, the housing that is at risk of falling through is the most important thing of all. Anyways, that’s enough from me on this for now, the project isn’t dead despite these op-Ed’s so I need to stop acting like it. When I emailed the city councilors they all stated that they supported this change. Appreciate the list of exciting developments happening here in our lovely city!
  4. Man I am so tired. I acknowledge that a lot of the bungling of this is due to the city seemingly being incapable of moving something across the finish line but I swear we get more of these op-eds than anywhere else when it comes time to put up or shut up. Chesterfield and Henrico never seem to have this problem where negative public input overrules everything. Not even disputing his points as I admit that I don't know enough to prove him wrong but its like damn, why does it always have to be like this? Side note: Is Paul Goldman a kingmaker in regards to this? By that I mean we should expect the city council to reverse course on this due to his comments? I emailed all of them and got back 6 emails explicitly stating they intended to vote for this.
  5. How do you interpret this article? I really like Baliles but is he advocating that we shouldn't be doing this? I may be reading to negatively into what essentially is just an explanation of the situation. I (as I'm sure it has been seen here) have my biases but the way I see it, bonds are a tool to be used. If we aren't willing to do that for a development of this scale that will bring such density what are we ever going to actually do? Not to mention I'm going to pitch a fit if we lose one of our remaining few sports teams due to this.
  6. I swear I am going to lose my mind if Richmond For All gets another project killed. I’m hoping it’s basically a done deal but I recommend people write the council giving their support to this. Edit: I was pleasantly surprised to see the Twitter post they made about this have very little traction.
  7. Quick anecdote that I figured y'all might find interesting. A few weeks back I asked the question about Breeze flights to Phoenix and whether they would be available during June. Unfortunately that was not the case so I was originally planning on flying out of Dulles or Washington National. To my happy surprise however, I actually found much better prices here at RIC than I did at the two DC airports. Yes they do require layovers, but so did the ones I was looking at DC and it was a good $100 dollars cheaper total (for two people) to leave from RIC. Also that's before I factored in gas or a train ticket up there. Long story short I'm glad to see we were competitive in pricing and I am happy to be padding RIC's numbers this Summer!
  8. I am a little worried about it as well. Hopefully it's so far along that they feel like they can't block it now but who knows, I'll send my emails to council regardless. Side note: it says it's being presented today to them. Does that also mean it will be voted on today as well?
  9. So I'm glad that the story says that this isn't a project killer but it certainly has me worried as well. While I'm sure emails on this subject won't amount to much I still want to send some out in an effort to help out anyway I can. Who do y'all think emails need to be sent to? The Govenor and Virginia Senate finance committee? Anyone else y'all can think of? It just annoys me that we are getting screwed once again due to a much worse plan (the Alexandria arena). Like this is a one to one replacement for us, not an uprooting of two teams from a city to the burbs like that one.
  10. I like it! I think if done right the industrial design could work well considering the past of Scott’s Addition. I hope they add more brick and don’t love all the white on the roofs but the 360 design and the lawn seating is awesome. I also like that they made it 10k capacity.
  11. So to be clear we shouldn't expect this route for June? I see that there are bookings till the end of May but just expected that was because they didn't schedule that far out. That's a shame I need to get to Phoenix in mid June and was hoping to use them.
  12. I'm not concerned about the parking but I do wish they could make the street crossing at Byrd & 7th safer. I feel like that is going to become more and more important as more apartments continue to open up in the downtown core as well.
  13. Man I would eat my words against Legends so quick if they build a high rise residential building with a brewpub at the top. I hope someone got in their ear and was slyly like "Hey... I know how you can get an even better view".
  14. So I took a drive down the avenue of champions road the other day and saw that the field where the new stadium would be going had a bunch of survey markers on it and there were also a ton of steel pipes in an adjacent field that looked like they had just been moved in. Does anyone know if these are new? Last I heard they still need to make all of the financial entities before things can really get started there but wanted to see if you guys had heard or seen anything about that. In addition I saw there were new holes dug around the Arthur Ashe Center, I assume for the demolition? I know this is all pretty nebulous so I apologize for that but I was excited to see something there given how slow the wheels have been turning on this.
  15. If I’m reading what you wrote correctly it’s not the A-line bridge that would need replacing? Where is the bridge that does need to be switched out? In any case I fully agree that I want everything routed through MSS station eventually.
