  1. Was doing some looking on the new RIC-BWI flight, and it appears it is pretty much replacing RIC-ATL, as RIC-ATL is going down to 1x daily after June. RIC-BWI will now be the 6:00am morning flight instead of ATL, which kind of sucks for people traveling south who wanted a quick connection in the morning, and now have to reduntantly go north to go south. The reduction at ATL isn't a Richmond thing, it's happening at a lot of Southwest airports.
  2. Update with the Richmond - Nashville route with Southwest: It will now start June 4th, alongside BWI starting, and it appears the BNA flight will be a seasonal daily flight for now, a change from it being a Sunday only flight. This is pretty big and great news! Hopefully it can turn into a year-round flight if demand is maintained for the route.
  3. Yeah, same with IAD. It would be amazing to have Amtrak bookable via the United or Southwest website for those super short connections
  4. Urban twitter is definitely getting a kick out of this news haha While I understand their frustration at face value and I do agree with what they are saying, they need to realize this flight it souly for CONNECTING flights as BWI is a Southwest Hub. I read on Simply-Flying that like 98% of traffic on the RIC-IAD route are connecting, which I believe is similar with RIC-BWI, where almost all traffic is connecting.
  5. This is really true actually. Although them downsizing at Atlanta is basically handing the ball to Delta, it actually does give room for Southwest to possibly consider restarting MCO, TPA, or other Florida destinations, as Atlanta is a logical connecting point to Florida, so maybe soon we can see that? And over the past week I think Baltimore is capturing a whole new set of passengers out of RIC for Southwest, as that'll be the connector to Northeast destinations that don't have sufficient demand / too much competition out of RIC (ex: LGA, BOS, etc.). We also have to remember that just a few years ago we had as little as 2 routes from Southwest, so seeing them show interest in RIC again is amazing and I hope this continues.
  6. This sucks but it definitely makes sense as Southwest is really just diversifying where people can connect. I hope they eventually bring back MCO & TPA though. You'd think they'd keep the ATL frequency higher because ATL is pretty much the gateway to Florida & Carabiean destinations with Southwest if your connecting, or else you gotta go to Baltimore or MDW now.
  7. I always spot in this gravel area on Portugee Road or I spot on top of the parking garages
  8. I contribute a bit to the wiki page, just fixed that and fixed the sourcing for it as well, good catch!
  9. I don't think we'll see much of Southwest this year. They are pissed off w/ Boeing with 737 MAX 7 production which is a HUGE part of their growth plan. Southwest has complained they have had to use bigger aircraft for routes that really need the smaller -700. We've gotta just wait around w/ Southwest as there is so many route oppurtunities and competition oppurtunities with them (especially "internatonally" to the caribbean and Mexico) Examples: - RIC-PHX could compete with Breeze - RIC-DAL could compete with American - RIC-MCO could compete with jetBlue & Spirit - RIC-LGA could compete with American (less likely in my opinion) I super glad we're getting Nashville though, that is a very big addition. Also according to the Southwest site, this "RIC-BWI" flight which they said is "limited time" is definitely that. I only see it operating on Thanksgiving day in November, and that's it. Honestly I feel like this route serves only for connecting to the Northeast with Southwest as we have better ways to get to Baltimore (Amtrak). This route, like someone said earlier, would absolutely hurt our chances for more "point to point nonstop" routes as BWI is a huge hub for Southwest, and they'd just be funneling people from RIC there. I genuinely hope that route doesn't stick, because it would do more harm than good. I feel similarly with RIC-ATL with Delta. It is amazing that we've seen 6-8 nonstops a day to Atlanta with the 757, but I'm pretty sure a majority of the flyers going to Atlanta are there to connect, and I think 6-8 nonstops shows there is demand for other nonstop routes with Delta out of here. I believe Delta used to operate RIC-MCO, it would be nice to see them operate that again to give some good competition with jetBlue & Spirit, and maybe fly to some other of their hubs like SLC or even SEA. This is correct. We have the highest passenger load for any non Breeze focus city / hub. I've heard this has been a mixed bag, and there is uncertainty on this route become a possiblity now. I read this on Twitter so take that with a grain of salt. One thing we have to remember with Norfolk is they have a bigger tourist & military market than we do. They have direct access to VA Beach & Military bases which is a huge benefit for them, so during the Summer it would make sense for them to outpace us a bit because of their larger tourist market with the beach nearby. It's actually really impressive that we keep up with them during the summer, likely because we are the go to airport because we are more "central" to everything, which is a huge benfit for us (1hr-2hr drive from beach, mountains, busch gardens, kings dominion, colonial williamsburg, etc. etc.)
  10. FINALLY! MCO has been underserved the past few years ever since Southwest departed that route. I believe this matches jetBlues 2x daily MCO flights (A320 for one, and E190 for the other) so I believe we're going to be at 4x daily now for MCO!
  11. This is definitely fueled by Amazon's larger expansion out of here. We've seen them add San Bernadino & Willmington (Ohio) flights almost daily now out of here, along with the already existing Cincinatti & Fort Worth flights. They also operate through Lakeland & San Juan out of here but those appear to be seasonal. Plus some Amazon flights are on 767s now, and I've seen quite a few MD-11Fs (with UPS) at RIC as well. Cargo will continue to grow a lot here with the LEGO manufacturing facility, and the planned technology park in Western Chesterfield likely fueling more cargo demand.
  12. Took a look at Breeze's schedule, it appears Providence is coming back in a couple of days as an unconventional "BreezeThru" (RIC-TPA-PVD), and then in October it will come back non-stop as a seasonal route it appears.
  13. Looks like it'll probably be a seasonal route, where it operates all year besides during the summer time (which seems kind of odd, you'd think it'd be a spring-summer route, and it goes away for the winter, but I'm not complaining haha
  14. This is HUGE! So I don't know entirely how leasing gates works, but would multiple airlines be able to operate out of this one international gate? Or would it be restricted to one airline until we get a Concourse B expansion? Also I feel like we should've had one route announcement *at least* that is international by now considering it is opening in April. I guess time will tell. As long as we get an announcement this year for one or two international routes, I'll be happy.
  15. Some slight cargo news for the airport... and this isn't confirmed, but according to flightradar24, ever since Jan 18th, Amazon Prime Air has been operating daily cargo flights from San Bernardino, CA to Richmond. Again I don't know if this is temporary or if this is a new cargo route, but we are certainly growing cargo wise as an airport. If anyone w/ connections to Prime Air could confirm this? This would make SBD Prime Air's 5th "cargo destination" out of Richmond.
