ODU's capital construction projects page has been updated with two new projects. First is the Public Safety building, which will be a $4.5 million renovation of the ODU Inn. Guessing this is tied to the mixed-use development they want to build with the Publix store as an anchor: CITY PLANNING COMMISSION, for a zoning text amendment to the Norfolk Zoning Ordinance to modify UV (University Village). Recently ODU President Dr. Hemphill, AD Wood Selig and baseball coach Chris Finwood hosted a dinner to honor the donors that will make this stadium a reality. After construction, the stadium will be called Bud Metheny Ballpark at the Elmer Family Baseball Complex thanks to the generosity of Dennis Elmer and his family. Construction on this project should start after the next baseball season.

A friend of mine is opening a brewery in The Colony at Lamberts Point, the old gas factory that IP Configure renovated. Sanctuary tacos is moving in there as well. That development is next door to this one.

Transparency only occurred thanks to city receipt records. So I'm happy not all of them followed the Mayor's lead, otherwise we wouldn't even know this trip occurred.

Apologies, I was working from memory and my timeline was way off. It was years before they closed. We lived in the same building in 2012 to 2014 and at the time it was performing at that level. I'm also guessing the performance she was referring to was net revenues where their performance likely shined thanks to their discounted lease at MacArthur.

Had a friend who was the manager at Nordstrom at MacArthur. She told me they were the third best performing Nordstrom in sales at the time of their closure. So I'm not sure you can blame that on area residents. And their departure from the mall was the one that broke the camels back.

Was looking at state budget numbers. ODU got $4.5mil to “renovate public safety building” and $2.5mil for repairs to Rollins Hall for FY23. Most interested in the public safety building, as that is likely a new space for their police force since it’s unnamed.

EVMS is selling Smith-Rogers Hall, the school's oldest building, and surrounding land to the City of Norfolk and the Chrysler Museum. ODUs president Dr. Hemphill sent out an email to faculty and staff today updating them on the MOU signed in December with EVMS and Sentara. In the update, he says that the focus is now on fully integrating the two schools together by 2023. This would be a great thing for both institutions and Norfolk.
