  1. Looks like Brinshore is trying to redevelop this whole area by themselves. The November 14th planning commission meeting has the following listed on the docket; "BRINSHORE DEVELOPMENT (Applicant) Rezoning, conditional use permit and a development certificate to allow the construction of a multi-family apartment community development with 120 dwelling units at 450 Posey Lane"
  2. I would be interested in hearing why Courtney Doyle thinks we should move forward and see where the differences lie. They are usually in lockstep together.
  3. Don't forget that the ipConfigure project will be in the immediate area as well. https://pilotonline.com/business/article_ea5d7d28-b91d-11e9-8d5b-efc372238679.html
  4. This project has the ability to help spur redevelopment along Hampton Boulevard, better connecting West Ghent to ODU and Larchmont. I saw earlier on Twitter that the estimated completion is December 2020. Can't wait to see it.
  5. I'm not sure if this is the same project, since WAVY said it was Block 20 instead of Block 19. But last night the ARB reviewed but did not vote on a project that looks very similar. Greg Rutledge, Chair of the ARB, is not a fan; “I would love to see people come bring us designs that doesn’t look like it’s coming from Virginia Beach or coming from an apartment complex in Virginia Beach and plopping it down in downtown Norfolk" https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/norfolk/review-board-members-say-initial-building-plans-for-new-public-housing-look-more-virginia-beach-than-norfolk/
  6. My wife works at Sentara and was told they are looking to move into new offices by 2021. This RFP seems to mesh really well with that information.
  7. That's gotta be Sentara. They have a bunch of undersized and outdated office spaces throughout the Southside. Consolidating to one large space just makes sense. I hope they do it at MacArthur.
  8. I think you're right on the stigma and the lack of direct routes. Time is a major factor. Until it saves considerable time on a commute, people would rather be alone in their cars or grab an Uber.
  9. The next project is the Chenman Lofts in the Railroad District, the former scrap metal and steel business. There are multiple applications for this project as well. 619 W 24th Street: https//www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5213?fileID=10174 629 W 24th Street: https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5213?fileID=10173 624 W 23rd Street: https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5213?fileID=10173
  10. The next development is a big one in that includes 4 buildings. The former Old Dominion Peanut Company buildings are being renovated into apartments and what they're calling Peanut Factory Flats; There are multiple applications for the project. 2301 Omohundro Ave.: https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5215?fileID=10180 226 W 24th Street: https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5215?fileID=10184 217 W. 25TH Street: https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5215?fileID=10181
  11. I noticed there were quite a few applications that have gone through or are scheduled for the ARB that had not been posted yet. All projects are in or close to the Railroad District. So pardon the data dump as I try to capture them all. First is 2202 Llewellyn Ave. This is on the Ghent side of the tracks, where Guys Upholstery and Decorum's Clearance Center was once located. They are applying to make this mixed use. The application can be found at the following link; https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5215?fileID=10183
  12. ipConfigure wants to redevelop the old Linde Gas factory in Lambert's Point into offices. This property is adjacent to the proposed Railyard development. https://pilotonline.com/business/article_ea5d7d28-b91d-11e9-8d5b-efc372238679.html
  13. I hope so. I know the mayor sees SPQ as a key project since it will get a big chunk of Norfolk back on the tax rolls. And getting more businesses in there would help in that regard.
  14. Sorry for the duplicated post. Didn't see BFGs post in there when I submitted. This is really good news for the city. Chip is pretty innovative and an all-around good guy.
  15. Norfolk has named Chip Filer, ODU economics professor and Associate VP of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, and as the new city manager; https://pilotonline.com/news/government/local/article_f1a882a0-b48e-11e9-a171-9f700057dd50.html
  16. I think people would be surprised what that would do for the city. So many focus on the lost jobs, they ignore the opportunity that would be presented. That's a lot of land (and much of it waterfront) that would be returning to the tax rolls. It would take time to recover those lost jobs, but if done correctly it could result in some awesome development.
  17. Their brewery and restaurant in Charlottesville is fantastic and well worth a visit.
  18. It's a pretty sad state of affairs. They're stuck in neutral and rolling slowly backwards.
  19. Portsmouth Civic Center has been condemned. The city manager expects all prisoners will be transferred to Hampton Roads Regional Jail. https://pilotonline.com/news/government/politics/local/article_7f86434a-ae14-11e9-b918-db87419989b4.amp.html?__twitter_impression=true You gotta feel for the sheriff and all his staff. But I wonder if this is really a safety issue, a development move or just a budget cutting decision.
  20. WAVY did a brief on The Railyard development; https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/norfolk/high-end-bowling-alley-brewery-proposed-for-former-industrial-land-at-lamberts-point
  21. I believe that is the long range plan for military circle. But one of the key steps to that is getting the Tide extended there and who knows how long that will take. Or if it will ever happen.
  22. Aslin Beer Company is negotiating with a property in Virginia Beach. https://brightestyoungthings.com/articles/aslin-alexandria
  23. At last night's city council meeting, there was an agenda item to approve a lowered purchase price between Hanson and the city from $200k to $32.3k. Included in the application is a timeline that states construction will start this October and they anticipate opening in October 2020. https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/5165?fileID=10074 Here is the development certificate from Feb. 2018; https://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/3979?fileID=8101
