Thanks! Someone posted a link to a webcam aimed at the construction zones on Cumberland (I think 2 cams) a couple years back, but I can't seem to find them anymore. They've likely been taken offline.

Also, I just saw the updated USCB estimates for TN counties, and it looks like Knox County passed 500k in 2023, and growing at a very healthy clip.

I was the one who posted the link. It was from Children’s Hospital looking directly at the construction site. The feed went dead after a bad storm a while back and hasn’t come back on line since. The other link was for the baseball stadium. That one still works on the Denark website.

Welcome back to the forum after a few years of hiatus. Looking forward to seeing more of you.

Thanks. While I haven't been posting I've definitely been lurking around here. There are a couple of other cameras at the stadium site but they don't appear to be live streaming yet. They do show time lapses though which are kind of cool. https://www.denark.com/project/knoxville-multi-use-stadium/. Scroll down a little.

I saw this and was excited to see!

Yep! Construction on the first phase is in full swing! It's a massive site. This doesn't even show the other parcel next to it that's also a part of this phase. Here's a good gallery of construction progress.

There is a live camera of this construction site from WVLT. Go here and scroll down to the last camera feed. https://www.wvlt.tv/page/cameras/

Not an actual UT project, but right at the edge of campus.  https://desktopbackgroundshq.com/developers-plan-new-student-housing-project-on-cumberland-ave-to-replace-strip-mall/

Curious if anybody who posts in the K'ville forum ( @UrbanWes03 @Nathan_in_DC@Tennessine ) has a rendering for the new Greystar condo on Cumberland Avenue. Noticed last week that construction has started.

    - 700 beds for residents

    - An outside courtyard

    - A swimming pool

    - A fitness center

    - Study rooms

    - Computer rooms/a gaming room

    - A lounge area and a fire pit

    - The alleyway near the mall will also stay open, and the building will be built over it.

    - 509 total parking spots/201 bicycle parking spots.

I don't claim to understand a lot about real estate, but the statements below just don't "add up" to me. They're spending $93 million to make the property worth $82 million? What?

Construction is expected to be complete by summer 2023, according to records. It is expected to cost around $93 million. Records also show that the project is expected to create more than 150 construction jobs, and 25 permanent ones. ... They said the project would also increase the value of the property to around $82 million, a significant boost from its current value of around $3.8 million.

    Here you go!

Not much info out there about whatever that is going to be. Only thing I could find is:

"A Resolution to amend Resolution No. R-250-2017 which authorized the Industrial Development Board of the City of Knoxville to negotiate and accept from Orange Knoxville Cumberland, LLC (subsequently assigned to Breckenridge Group Knoxville, Tennessee, LLC), payments in lieu of ad valorem taxes with respect to property located at 2223 Cumberland Avenue, so as to clarify language outlined in the PILOT lease defining the project and uses of the property. (Requested by Law Department and Office of Redevelopment)"

The only other info is that Breckenridge Group paid $15 million for the property in December.

This is what's going on that spot on Cumberland. https://aspenknoxville.com

Based on the CVS rendering on the website, it's at least 5 stories.

Walmart at University Commons has closed.  This is a big blow to revitalization efforts for the Fort/U.T. area.  Publix has said it has no intention of closing its University Commons store, but the 120,000 square feet of space left vacant by Walmart's departure isn't good news.  Any ideas what could replace it?

Seems like it would be a perfect spot for an Ikea with so many students living on and around campus along with the population growth downtown.

  8. The latest on the Kerns Bakery site redevelopment. Who knows if this will happen or not.

Also, there is an article on knoxnews from 3/22 that another section of Riverwalk will be built from Suttree Landing Park to River's Edge Apartments. It's behind a paywall so I won't link it. Knoxville will have something really nice when/if the riverwalk runs the entire length of that section of the south Knoxville riverfront,

Knoxville will never fail to amuse me

Very weird is a good description. As in the article from the  link above, here is the website for this project: https://ancientlorevillage.com

They were giving away free copies of the book for a limited time that this resort is based on. I read it just to get a better idea of what this place might actually be like. After reading it, I am convinced that somewhere on the property is a large patch of "shrooms" that gave Mr, Boyd his inspiration for the book and the resort. :tw_glasses:

Anyway, at least it's something different. People around that area of Chapman Highway aren't exactly happy about the project because of the added traffic. My gut feeling tells me they won't have to worry about that. Hopefully I am wrong and it ends up being a big success for Knoxville.
