Whenever I hear utter mischaracterizations of Nashville as some podunk town, all that means to me is that there is a lot more room for growth for us on the national stage. With all the national and international regocnition we’ve been getting, and the influx and growth we’ve seen here, sometimes I worry about topping out. Comments like the ones on that board reassure me that there is still a lot of snow on the ground to ball over.

It cited the absence of state income tax, low property tax, no state or city minimum wage in excess of the federally minimum, right-to-work, and a general lack of excess government regulation of business. I’d be more thorough but I don’t have a subscription either and apparently I’ve now exceeded my free viewership for the month after the initial reading :-p

In response to the Guardian article, here is a WSJ opinion piece entitled The Secret of Nashville’s Success: https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/secrets-of-nashvilles-success-11555452849

Of all the things that have relocated here from Memphis over the years, I would’ve felt guilty over this one. Apparently they considered dismantling Graceland brick-by-brick and moving it to Nashville: https://slate.com/business/2019/04/graceland-memphis-elvis-presley-tax-exemptions.html

NYT: The NFL’s Great Cherry’s Tree Caper https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/08/opinion/nfl-nashville-cherry-trees.amp.html

Another point of contention that I’ve heard is that, while the NFL will fund replacement of the trees, there is a high mortality rate for newly-planted cherry trees and the replacement will effectively result in less trees than were there to begin with. This was posted on Reddit by some source but I’m on mobile and unable to cite it right now.

Yeah, they meet and organize near the Waffle House on Trinity Lane for each ride. Thats always been my concern, too, especially after the explicit threats made by their cameraman.

None of the ATVs or dirtbikes are street legal and many are stolen, often from dealerships. Plus a lot of the riders are illegally armed. There's *cause* to pursue, however, police know that active pursuit only results in increased risk to the public and many cities have no-chase policies in place. There have been instances where police have successfully blockaded some dirtbikes in on certain roads (I can't find the articles to link but I remember reading of one in NYC in which they caught a staggering three people out of hundreds), but even then, the trapped riders flee on foot and the rest of the 100+ person gang escapes on their vehicles. It's like herding cats.

Yes, it is a nationwide issue. It's been going on for years but has really been increasing in size, scope, frequency, and severity lately. Some of you might remember this story from a few years ago where a similar bike mob attacked a family with an infant in an SUV, with an ensuing chase throughout NYC. "Sideshows", like what happened on I-24 last month (by the same people, btw), have been happening all over California for years. Now that these gangs have expanded into dirtbikes and ATVs, which are much less expensive, their numbers have shot up dramatically. This is a problem now in NYC, LA, St. Louis, New Orleans, Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, DC, and pretty much every major city across the country. There was a documentary at SXSW this year about Baltimore's ATV and dirtbike gang, "12 O-Clock Boys". Police are not allowed to pursue, and these gangs know that, so they taunt police and continue to terrorize the streets. They harass and kill drivers who get in their way, and the Nashville chapter openly threatened to do so yesterday, too: "All you [expletive] stay in your lane or y'all gonna end up hanging from a bridge". This is a serious problem and no one seems to know what to do about it.

It’s probably also owing to the fact that half the people roaming the streets are here on vacation and half the buildings are hotels.

You joke, but that would actually be really cool to have a sensor and translate outdoor volume levels to a display. See it shoot up when an ambulance rushes by or fireworks or yeah, even a peddle tavern full of wooing. I’m for it.- 325 replies

The Transportation and Mass Transit Megathread
fishsticks176 replied to TopTenn's topic in Nashville
Hasn’t BNA announced their intention to fund a light rail from the airport into downtown? If I’m remembering correctly, they had stated that they would proceed with that line regardless of whether the transit plan passed, and then after it failed they reiterated that intent as part of their long-term vision. -

I’ve always liked driving down Church street and seeing those giant vats line the street, but I wasn’t aware the property went so far back and I agree that the majority of that lot is definitely underutilized. I’d love to see it developed into a Marathon-type property that preserves the industrial facade along Church Street.

The Transportation and Mass Transit Megathread

Can we rename this thread Transportation and Mass Transit/ Political Whataboutism Megathread? You know, just for accuracy’s sake. -
I was just joking. That’s the slogan they were using to rally against the soccer stadium at the fairgrounds and put it in metrocenter
