  1. Funds for buildings and 80 plus scholarships come from completely different funds and really do not have anything to do with the other. I have brought this up before, but 60% of VCU's athletic revenue comes from students fees. It is just not economically feasible for VCU to have a football team. This all before you get into Tital IX issues. Do you cut other men's teams to become compliant or do you spend even more money to create new women teams. I think VCU has found its niche in the college sports landscape with their basketball program, and I am not sure it is worth the risk (really money) to have a football team.
  2. Money will always be an issue when it comes to VCU creating a football team. 80 scholarships for a football team plus scholarships that need to become available for title 9 issues. Either they would have to cut some men's sports to become compliant or spend even more money to create new women's sports teams. 60% of the currently athletic fund is already subsidized from student fees.
  3. Anybody know what is going on with the black part of the parking deck? Feel like they have been working on that area for weeks now. Is it some kind of sealant for the greenery they plan on putting up there?
  4. This is after moving about 500 jobs from Roanoke a couple years ago.
  5. Once school is over for the semester I may make a Christmas project out of DOT flight information to see if there are any trends with more flights and where they are going to.
  6. “We’re also expanding service to key business destinations including Detroit; St. Louis; Kansas City, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; and Richmond, Virginia,” Jill Kaplan, United’s president of New York/New Jersey, said about the company’s plan to add more flights on several existing Newark routes. https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/flights/todayinthesky/2018/10/15/united-airlines-new-routes-nyc-washington-dc-california-hubs/1647581002/ This reads to me as they are offering more flights to NY.
  7. I have been a Southwest whore on here before, but I just want to see an expanded Southwest selection. A direct flight to Chicago would be ideal so I dont have to fly United or American back home.
  8. Southwest is my favorite airline to fly, so I have a strong opinion about them not offering more routes out of Richmond. Unfortunately, one of their biggest hubs is Baltimore and I am not sure if it is worth the fuel to fly such a short route. I have recently moved to Chicago and there is an entire airport pretty much dedicated to Southwest,. I would think this would be a logical next step for Southwest to fly to and from Richmond. This would give them more out west flights than what the Atlanta hub can provide. I of course want a direct flight back home that is not United or American airlines.
  9. Honest question. I know that Monroe park is a good sized area, but with the trees in the middle of it there is not a lot of space to play football, soccer, or ultimate frisbee. Will there be a point where VCU is worried about not having enough green space, or with a lot of kids not living near campus is this not a big deal? I went to Virginia Tech where intramural sports was a huge deal and I find it hard to believe that these opportunities would exist at VCU with only one turf field.
  10. I think I have seen it mentioned somewhere on this board but you can really tell that Scott's Addition has almost no greenery compared to the rest of the city
  11. Out of the blue, Alaska Airlines comes in and surprises everybody!
  12. Southwest needs to hop on that RIC to Denver route. I know Southwest has a fairly large presence in that airport.
  13. I really like the look of this building
  14. The workzone camera has been moved up slightly to show the new steel work going on https://www.workzonecam.com/projects/hourigan/dominionworkplace/workzonecam
  15. How do we get one of the Riverfront Plaza buildings to put a camera up for our viewing pleasures?
  16. Here is a tweet I saw yesterday from the current Dominion building
  17. Looks like the top of the building is about to be outside of the cameras view
  18. Look for the yellow Spirit planes to be flying in and out of a city near you.
  19. Is there any mention when the announcement will be made?
  20. The current plan is to tear it down. Fun fact, it is cheaper to tear down the building and rebuild than it would be to go through it and retrofit to today's code.
  21. Of course regulations can change from place to place, but he mentioned something around the 500 foot figure. This may be a reason why you don't see any buildings greater than that in Richmond. The friend who mentioned this to me works at Hourigan and usually tells me things before it comes out to the public. When I was talking about the rumor of the Dominion building I mentioned that it would be cool if they built a 40 story building and that is where the skyscraper regulations came up.
  22. First time post even though I have been a long time follower! The plan is to currently implode the second building. Will be interesting to see how it is done considering there will be two new shiny glass building on either side of it. Also of note that my friend told me about this project and this was his speculation. At a certain point the height of a building needs to be considered due to more regulations. The price can significantly rise when crossing over the skyscraper threshold.
